  1. I didn't pay much attention to trade rumors back then, so when it was announced during the game I couldn't believe it. Easily the most excited I've ever been about a trade or FA signing.
  2. I, too, am a big fan of the thread title. If they're already using math to study sports statistics, next thing you know they'll be using science to study sports medicine. Then it's the Matrix all over again.
  3. You're on safe ground. They're all wiping the drool from their triple Hendry-esque chins with a Ryan Harvey t-shirt. I see you've decided to dabble in the Family Guy manatee ball-style of comedy writing. It's working.
  4. I think we're both being premature. It's going to take comedy scientists years to really analyze this thing.
  5. Where's Benchwarmer? The possibilities of a mock AOL conversation between Brian McRae and David are endless.
  6. Leadoff guy gets a bunt single, then steals 2nd. The 2nd hitter hits a groundball to 2B to move the runner to third. 3rd hitter knocks him in with a sac fly. What's so complicated about that? It's not complicated. It's not smart either. I don't think you understand. The 2nd hitter has to be able to ground out to the 2nd baseman to advance runners. That's baseball.

  8. I know this is going to be vigorously debated, but from a purely comedic standpoint I think the pièce de résistance is that he doesn't know .300 is more than .190.
  9. It will be a great day for baseball when they establish the Ron Santo/Benchwarmer Courage Award.
  10. lornemichaels@snl.com Do it yesterday! You're welcome.
  11. Two good signings in a row! Let's keep it going, sign Webb, maybe try to trade for a 2B, let our farm system fill in the bench and the remainder of the bullpen and then win all of the games!
  12. The Cubs seem to have a lot of borderline pitching prospects that, since we don't really have room for them in the rotation, could turn out to be good bullpen arms. I don't really see Carpenter, Jackson, Rusin, Raley, etc. ever being regular SP for us but I can easily see getting a couple very good relievers out of the bunch. And I know this is really really premature, but I'm already excited for when Kurcz is ready to take over as our closer. He just toyed with those idiot batters he faced in Boise.
  13. Unless they consider Lemahieu a top SS prospect, I'd rather just take the gamble on Webb and put Cashner in the rotation.
  14. TT is trying to take away our games but there's just a lot of postulating on how many. Theories abound but there's no answer in sight.
  15. Because after the season somebody listed him as 19? You connected the dots in expert fashion. Are there things that you don't take very seriously? And with the latest list, add a #12 to that, sucka I don't take top 20 prospect lists very seriously. Which means I doubt you'll take my redemption seriously. [expletive]

  18. The rest is premium content so I won't post it. People thought I was crazy for having Austin Reed at #10 earlier in the year. My redemption begins.
  19. Damn it... In my heart I always thought he'd get to see the Cubs win it all. This really sucks. He was such a great guy.
  20. Why are so many people assuming he feels entitled to everything? He wanted a job, he didn't get it, he's going to look elsewhere. He hasn't gone around bitching and moaning, he's just quietly and respectfully said he doesn't want to manage the Cubs AAA team. He's a millionaire that doesn't need a minor league coaching job. I imagine he'll look for a major league job and if he doesn't get one, he'll go play golf and shoot quail or whatever the hell retired rich people do. I just don't see how any of this reflects poorly on him.
  21. Yes, he is such an jerk. I can't believe he wants to be a major league manager and is trying to achieve that goal. Grrr! I'm going to go do some meth to take the edge off of my anger.
  22. The guy was one of the greatest Cubs ever, has been managing in the minors for a few years now because he really wanted to manage the Cubs, and now (at least so far) is handling not getting the job with a lot of class. I hate him so much.
