  1. Heilman is a dime a dozen reliever who does nothing particularly well. yeah, thats not true. its already been shown that he's very effective against right handed hitters. Didn't you just call him a "terrible swingman"? i dont know, did i? probably just the emotional reaction to learning of a bad trade if so, rather than the rational reaction.

  3. I don't see how Hendry has earned the right to be given the benefit of the doubt this offseason. Also, whether ot nor he makes other moves doesn't really excuse some of the other dumb things he's done. Getting as little as he did for DeRosa is basd. Giving Miles the contract he did is bad. Giving Bradley what he didis bad. Trading Cedeno and Olson for Heilman is bad. Those are bad moves, regardless of what follows them. that's awfully myopic. one man's trash is another's treasure. if the "little" he got for dero turns around and nets something better than dero, that's a good trade. etc.
  4. i'm beginning to think that it's more and more naive to think that hendry has based his EVERY MOVE this offseason on acquiring jake peavy, as some have suggested. trading dero? oh it's just cause the padres want those three guys and we need to free up money to get peavy too. trading pie? yeah, well the padres want olson. now what??
  5. just wait til bradley gets hurt, and our outfield is sori-gathright-dome. ugh. terrible offseason.
  6. well thats certainly over the top sun times is confirming olson/cedeno for heilman as well. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1401326,cubs-trade-mariners-012909.article
  7. shark mustve really asked for a new friend, since his qb buddy derosa got dealt
  8. oh, and signed a guy with one great year and a whole lot of failed years as a starter, to a huge deal. super!
  9. -let kerry wood walk, check. -trade derosa for three crappy prospects, check. -sign a guy who has stayed healthy for 75% of the games once in his 8 year career, check. -somehow get value for pie, then trade that value for a terrible swingman when you already have a great one (marshall), check. -sign aaron miles to a two year deal, check. -sign paul bako, presumably just b/c he's a lefty rather than hank white, check. -what a terrible, terrible offseason.
  10. i think it was more about getting heilman than getting rid of cedeno/pie. hendry has a long history of being interested in him.
  11. Losses -- Wood, DeRosa, Pie, Cedeno, Marquis, Ward, Additions -- Bradley, Miles, Heilman, Gregg, Gathright, Vizcaino am i forgetting anyone? pretty rough offseason for the team that won 97 games last year
  12. suppose it's possible, but looking at age/promise/progress i cant see any reason they would.
  13. I believe so, but I'm always surprised by things that many people say (ahem, Kevin Towers)... so I'm not really confident on what the rules are. Towers can say whatever he wants about Peavy. It's his player. Towers mentions players of other teams by name all the time. I've heard writers call him "Tampering Towers" did it with prior, didn't he?
  14. I don't think anyone is even close to the Cubs in offseason moves. Something still needs to happen with Rich Hill and they still need a back up infielder, even if a Peavy deal doesn't happen. miles is the backup infielder. pretty ironic that the team that won the most games in the league last year is making the most changes.
  15. is any other team overhauling their roster more than the Cubs this offseason?
  16. That's exactly my thought on this potential deal. That, or the Padres may prefer taking Heilman instead of Marshall in a Peavy deal. it's gotta be one of the two. the cubs certainly have enough pitching depth as it is. there's no reason to add heilman and not make a corresponding move. I don't know if they have all that much pitching depth as it is. I'd say they have an overabundance if they make this move. If a Peavy deal is in the works and actually happens, then they would take a pretty big hit to the pitching staff. Without Peavy: Zambrano, Harden, Dempster, Lilly, Marshall Pen: Olson, Heilman*, Gaudin, Wuertz, Vizcaino, Guzman, Marmol, Gregg, Samardzija, Cotts, Hill, Hart, Ascanio. But how many of those guys are actually decent? decent enough to be the 5th starter? i'd say quite a few of them. olson, heilman, marshall, guzman, shark, at least. We have no idea if Olson is good enough. He certainly wasn't good enough last season and we can't just count on the "changing leagues" stuff to suddenly make him good right away. I'm not sold on Samardzija, and we can't count on Guzman for anything. Plus Heilman has never been good as a starter. but again, we're talking about the 5th starter. if he bombs, you replace him with the next candidate. 5th starters typically aren't good bets to be productive.

  19. your guess is as good as mine. i wish there were somewhere online that contained all this information. maybe theREALtraderumor can add this info to his stats collection.
  20. i wish i knew how much money he made last year and what his stats were last year.
  21. rich hill just sucks at everything baseball related -- pitching (obviously), hitting, baserunning, etc.
  22. until i just checked his BR page, i've long been under the assumption that heilman was a starter. has there been talk of him going back to the rotation or was i just completely off?
  23. whats weird about it? it would be weird if he said the opposite of that.
