  1. what does buying the trib have to do with anything?
  2. well first tell me how good are you expecting marquis to be this year? Roughly the same pitcher he was three of the last four years: a league average starter. you cant just look at ERA+ and conclude he was league average for a starter. ERA+ is based on all pitchers, not just starters.
  3. ben sheets is the obvious answer. randy wolf, kris benson... there's three off the top of my head. want me to name more?
  4. what? how about, anywhere? Take an honest look at Marquis' stats, and then look at the back halves of rotations around the league. Anyone who is better than Marquis is not a scrap-heap starter and would have been snapped up ages ago. oh i agree that marquis was a fine 5th starter. a damn expensive 5th starter, but a productive one. the "where on earth are we going to find someone better than marquis" is absurd though and what i was responding to. Ok, tell me. Who's available that is a lock to be better than Marquis for cheaper than Marquis? well first tell me how good are you expecting marquis to be this year?

  6. thats the ballpark village area, right? the area thats been completely empty for like 3 years now? lol that is pretty funny though.
  7. didnt realize they changed the tiers. it's freaking expensive to be a cubs fan! also... nice to see that they continue to jack prices up despite the ongoing economic conditions. ah well, if the demand is there.
  8. So help me God if that was one of the reasons for this trade... bako hit .217/.299/.328 last year, and it was his best offensive season since 2005. also, he'll turn 37 in june. if you don't think koyie hill can replicate bako will do, you should clear the spot you need for bako by cutting hill. i think it's fairly obvious that bako is being signed because he's a veteran, someone to be able to help geo mature as a baseball player, not because of his hitting ability, or lack thereof.
  9. if it's purely backup, and starting less than 10 games, i'm not opposed to it. he does have some pretty decent pop, something we're definitely lacking.
  10. no, this isnt bcb At Bleed Cubbie Blue they think Peavy is a Cub already and has been since day 1 of the Winter Meetings. That place is so unbearable to read. The posters there are awful. i think it's fine. i was just commenting on al's "this isn't happening, just stop talking about it" mantra that he's maintained all offseason.
  11. a great bet? i dont know how you define that, but i expect at least two other teams to be over .500. probably the cards and astros. maybe the brewers too.
  12. 80 wins? 80 wins, yet somehow get into the playoffs? Good chance 80 wins takes the central in 09 care to make a friendly wager on that?
  13. no way. he got the ball out of the infield? when was this?
  14. he was hustling, lol? he was trying to steal, he should've been "hustling". that doesnt mean it wasnt an idiotic play. It's not an idiotic play. Suppose Molina airmails the ball and Ronny ends up scoring. Who made the idiotic play Molina or Cedeno? I mean Molina threw the ball down to second when he shouldn't have. it was a freakish play with a bad result. Please, stop the nonsense. so if it wasnt stupid, what was it? unlucky?
  15. he was hustling, lol? he was trying to steal, he should've been "hustling". that doesnt mean it wasnt an idiotic play.
  16. is this is a competition of who made the most stupid plays? i think cedeno would blow the competition away if so. Ok, let's start. Ronny was born non-white. STRIKE 1 RONNY .............
  17. is this is a competition of who made the most stupid plays? i think cedeno would blow the competition away if so.
  18. i love how people make that "thrown out at 2nd base on a walk" thing into some completely idiotic move. didn't he just overslide the bag or something? oversliding the bag isn't idiotic? Because it was a 3-2 count with 2 outs there is no need to slide because 1. The batter makes an out either a ball in play or K, inning over 2. The batter walks, he moves to second and even if their is a throw that beats him he is still safe 3. The batter fouls off a pitch, he goes back to first 4. The batter gets a hit, in which case sliding into second is completely idiotic because he could potentially advance to 3B or even score if he stays on his feet and sees where the ball is going Was it really a 3-2 count with 2 outs? I don't remember. Why did the catcher even throw it then? i'm pretty sure there was only one out.
  19. i love how people make that "thrown out at 2nd base on a walk" thing into some completely idiotic move. didn't he just overslide the bag or something? oversliding the bag isn't idiotic? It was a mistake. It happens more than people let on. I don't really see how it's "idiotic". i think it's pretty stupid. if you think about it, he's got about a 7 foot span to stop himself and still be on the bag. just one of the many stupid thing he did during his time here. i'll always remember him firing balls into the first few rows behind the visitor's dugout.
  20. i love how people make that "thrown out at 2nd base on a walk" thing into some completely idiotic move. didn't he just overslide the bag or something? oversliding the bag isn't idiotic?
  21. Thank you. After reading the posts after the trade was announced, people made i sound like the Cubs traded Stephen Drew and Jon Lester for Kent Bottenfield. The simple reality is the Cubs traded a ultilty player and a back end of the rotation pitcher (whose career MLB ERA is over 6, and I know that will come down as he gets more experience) for a reliever who is more likely to help the Cubs in 2009 then Cedeno/Olson COMBINED. I know trading chips should be more valued, but apparently Olson was overrated by the O's seeing as they moved him with another prospect for Pie. And the Cubs clearly wasn't going to keep him, and the Padres clearly was not as interested in him as some thought. The truth is of all the moves this offseason this one rates a meh more female dog and groaning. This move doesn't warrant the garbage that has been posed in this thread. FRUSTRATED sure, but the garbage that I read should be deleted. Olson simply isn't that good right now, and Cedeno will never any good (he is better then Miles, who I am more upset about getting then this trade). Oh shut up.
  22. I doubt it, but I'm thinking that if this move may have been to free up Marshall if they value him more than Olson. but olson is likely to be better than heilman. so just cut cedeno if it comes down to it, and keep the better player -- olson, for the swingman role.
