  1. ESPN is re-introducing the 30 for 30 series and Simmons tweeted the fall schedule yesterday (he's involved as a producer on it I think and is one of the guys responsible for bringing it back) but the first episode is about pro players going broke. Figured this was a fitting thread to post it. Here's they synopsis It airs Oct. 2nd
  2. I can't imagine the contract they would've offered Hamels in the offseason if he didn't resign with the Phillies. I'm guessing they will be offering Greinke something crazy instead.
  3. Yea. Law loves him, and, IIRC, he's the one who theorized that Vizcaino's health issues may very well be behind them since they were all related to the bad elbow that they finally bit the bullet and operated on this year. He was the one who said that. Basically said it's kinda a myth he has injury issues/history of bad health. It was one surgery and that's it and that basically it was "only" TJS and the success rate on pitchers coming back and being as good or better than before is so high that he still likes him a lot.
  4. A pitcher who has to go through double amputation of both his arms would have a better comeback than Simpson did. I think Concepcion can at least come back and figure it out as a LOOGY (not that, that's what he was paid all that money for).
  5. They have Beltre... Is Olt at least capable of playing a corner OF spot? Maybe they are moving him up to play LF/RF so Cruz/Hamilton can DH to get extra rest and avoid injuries down the stretch.
  6. He'll strike out a lot, but it's clear playing in AAA isn't helping that. He's nearing his 24th birthday and the point where he won't be considered much of a prospect anymore. It's time to try something new, and I think that something is new hitting coaches. Also, with our new FO, you never know who could be traded. Someone made the comparisons to Colvin. Vitters could be moved for pitching, which we also need a lot of. We also need a 3B. There are potential ones outside of Vitters, in Candelario, Baez, Lake and Villanueva but Vitters is the closest to being ML ready and there is a clear need for a 3B on the major league roster right now.
  7. Not a Cub, but Kip Wells pitched for the Padres tonight. How the F is he still in the league??
  8. 6 BB over his last 10 games, \:D/
  9. It would be more exciting if Jackson and Vitters were actually playing well in the minors. Vitters has been playing quite well for quite a while now in the minors. At least offensively speaking
  10. Just going by the eye test Starlin has to have a pretty decent slash line over the last 7 or so games. I know he had been going through a mini slump for a while.
  11. Just finished listening to that podcast with Law/KG and man do they both love Baez. KG said he could see rating his bat and power both at 7's.
  12. Definitely a joke. It takes a while, but the podcast talks about Jackson and then Baez for several minutes. They didn't really tread on any new territory with Jackson, and then started talking about Baez's future position and it quickly changed to "OMG let me tell you about this home run I saw him hit". They looooove Baez. Okay, cool. I didn't know what it was about, especially since those guys can be so tongue in cheek at times. But I'm listening to it now, good to hear they get into Cubs stuff (especially Baez)
  13. Kevin Goldstein was on Keith Law's podcast today and Law introduced Goldstein as "The President of The Junior Lake Fan Club." Is that some sort of joke, or is Goldstein really high on Lake?
  14. Excited to see Cabrera up and see if he looks like he will be a long term asset in the pen going forward. And Volstad can't do any worse than Coleman, I would imgine Volstad will be in the rotation?
  15. Casey Coleman was a regular starter for them up until tonight, so yeah.
  16. Hey Casey! YOU COULDN'T SMOOTH A SILK SHEET IF YOU HAD A HOT DATE WITH A BABE...I lost my train of thought.
  17. He's good to keep around for draft position
  18. Park/league factors have to be taken into account when making the comparison. Yes, plus how do you just dismiss a 2 year age difference? Not to mention Villanuueva's fielding advantage. Vitters at Villinueva's age now was in AA with nearly the same OPS Villanueva is posting in A ball this year.770 v. .777. I don't think either are elite prospects. I just like Vitters hit/contact tool so much I'd rank him higher. Plus Villanueva's been hit 20 times this year that irrationally inflates his OBP/overall OPS.
  19. Park/league factors have to be taken into account when making the comparison. How much better of a hitter league is the PCL than whatever league Villanueva currently is in? I know PCL is considered quite the hitters league.
  20. I'm just going to say it now and flame away but I like Vitters more as a prospect than Villanueva. Vitters is only a little over 1 year 10 months older. Vitters has a higher OPS and it looks like they walk at around the same rate.
  21. As someone noted somewhere earlier, I'd bet it was King Felix Rosenthal says it was Dempster. Ken Rosenthal and myself have a differing opinon on what "big deal" means then.
  22. As someone noted somewhere earlier, I'd bet it was King Felix
  23. I could see us trading him in the offseason. More teams should be interested (non-contending teams this year especially) and I'm guessing Theo/Hoyer just didn't get overwhelmed with anything and would rather wait this out.
  24. Hey Dempster! http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac303/elfprincessarcher/arigoldgtfo.gif
