  1. What the [expletive] [expletive]!?! He must have bought some of that stuff off Melky's website to get back into shape http://www.myfoxhouston.com/story/19321493/2012/08/20/roger-clemens-to-sign-with-the-sugar-land-skeeters
  2. There's totally no glitches that could come out of that plan of action....
  3. I can see that, but does Jackson have 25-30HR power like Young? Doesn't he profile to be more of a 15-20HR guy at best?
  4. He has a slash line of .238/.289/.333 (.622 OPS) over the last 2 weeks (12 games).
  5. He's listed as the probable starter on ESPN for tomorrow, fwiw
  6. Maybe Valbuena will be at 2B tonight with Vitters at 3B? Barney has sucked the last 2 weeks.
  7. But was Rizzo ever around 30% in the minors like Jackson was? Jackson having the flaws in his swing exposed at a lower level doesn't make them less fixable. That was my point, it makes them harder to fix as the contact problem has been there longer and against worse pitching. The Rizzo-Jackson comp isn't great as Jackson's k% was already high in AAA, while Rizzo's wasn't. Jackson had a k% 29% and 33% in his two years (and he started striking out at a higher rate than 33% as the season went on this year) at AAA and now is near 50% at the majors. Rizzo struggled during his callup last year but that was the first time his k% was alarming at any level, about 30%, which is where Jackson was in AAA. Rizzo was consistently between 17-21% in the minors.

  9. Bring him back home!
  10. As bad as the Cubs are, there is zero chance of catching the Astros. They are in their own league of bad. It's not very likely, but what other reasons can I think of to pick a team to beat the Cubs? If the Cubs have to be worse than the Astros, I hope it's next year. ??
  11. As bad as the Cubs are, there is zero chance of catching the Astros. They are in their own league of bad. It's going to be tough, but we play them 8 more times not including tonight. Samardzija has what, 4 starts left at most? So the rotation is about to get a downgrade. The offense has certainly shown an ability to go into prolonged funks, so while it's unlikely to make up 10 games in the loss column it's not impossible and the #2 pick is well within our grasp. Side note, I completely forgot Fernando Martinez was still a real thing. He used to be a huge prospect with the Mets
  12. Uh, oh http://sports.yahoo.com/news/bobby-valentine-red-sox-mutiny-text-dustin-pedroia-larry-lucchino-john-henry-adrian-gonzalez-.html
  13. He's hurt, so yes we can I understand he's hurt, but if he's healthy enough to be listed as probable, for instance? Is he going to become disenchanted and act or at least insinuate we're holding him back during a FA year? I know he's the "team leader" and all, but I could see that becoming a distraction. He's 35 and just had a procedure on his knee, I think the organization has every right to be careful with him and hold him back. Especially with the first 2 games so close together.
  14. He might as well try to learn a knuckle ball at this point
  15. Spot on Splendid, but I think the argument to shut him down in Sept. 03' was due to his collision with Giles. Or was that 04'?
  16. Mike Friers, or however u spell the Brewers pitcher's name, officially started the regression to his professional mean tonight. Gave up like 8 runs in 2 innings.
  17. I think it's more that maybe he's not a good coach or a organization hasn't had an opening at the ML level who share the same philosophies as Ryno. Also Sandberg is still relatively young in regards to coaches, so it's not like he's some coach whose been rotting away in the minors for decades and just started getting into coaching a few years ago.
  18. Grace run out of town? They offered him another contract and he took less to go to Arizona. Sandberg can't get a contract because he isn't fit for the job, but the idiots still think he should have it. They offered Grace a contract? It is true that he played for less with the Diamondbacks in 2001 than he made with the Cubs in 2000, but the reason he took less was because the Cubs declined to tender him a contract. Regardless of the contract situation with Grace I still think he is still thought of in relatively high regard amongst Cubs fans. Especially the Kaplans of the world
  19. Pretty sure around the draft it was pretty widely accepted that he would be a fast mover in whatever organization drafted him. I think there were even people who said he could possibly play in the bigs this year.
  20. Lost in the argument is that a Gonzalez/Zimmerman/Jackson 3-man rotation in the playoffs is actually good/talented enough to carry a team to a WS ring. Granted Strasburg is better than all 3, but just saying. It's not like their playoff hopes live and die by if Strasburg pitches or not
  21. How many examples are there of a guy a guy like Vogelbach coming through an AL system viewed as a DH? Most guys at least have a position or two.
  22. That's interesting. He's pretty much the opposite of a "Packer guy" but their backfield is brutal.
  23. Someone should tweet Goldstein and ask him if he'd rather have Machado or Vogelbach long-term.
  24. Agreed. Nor do I think Rizzo can either (especially when you're projecting out 3-4 years in advance). I don't see these guys on the same team unless the NL adopts the DH. Have there even been rumors of this happening?
  25. I'm sure they got very few offers for him or the offers they got weren't worth trading him or else I'm sure he would've been gone
