  1. FWIW, Fowler doesn't have his contract settled for this year yet. Fowler submitted $10.8 mil and Astros offered $8.5 before he was traded. http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2015/1/16/7577725/astros-arbitration-roundup-dexter-fowler-marwin-gonzalez-exchange
  2. The Patriots definitely deflated some balls yesterday. What can they even do to them, other than a fine and maybe a draft pick taken away?
  3. I posted this in the Manfried thread in General Baseball Discussion, but figured it could go here too. Ricketts has been made a member of the executive council under Manfred, Reinsdorf and Henry (amongst others) have been taken off.
  4. Ricketts has been made a part of the new executive council under Manfred,, Reisndorf and Henry have both been taken off, and Wilpon has been made chairman of the finance committee (lol).
  5. Yeah, I'm just being nit picky and I agree our depth/flexibility should be fine (especially when Bryant comes up). Just wouldn't have minded a little more IF insurance. So opening night starters will likely be (assuming no more moves) C- Montero 1B- Rizzo 2B- Javy SS- Castro 3B- Alcantara/La Stella LF- Coghlan CF- Fowler RF- Soler P- Lester
  6. I really like this move, my 1 "complaint" is that we didn't do it sooner to have a chance to sign someone like Bonifacio or Callaspo (both guys signed cheap 1 year deals, iirc) to take Valbuena's spot for a little more insurance in case Bryant has to go to the OF and/or 1 or more of Javy/Alcantara/La Stella suck.
  7. You want to put a catcher at 3B as insurance in case the guy who has at least played 3B can't handle 3B? I'm not say he can definitely play there, but it could be worth trying out in spring to see how he handles it. Also if he looks even averageish there it could be reason enough to not have Olt on the 25 man, which is good.
  8. If they keep 3 catchers, I wonder if they would try Castillo out at 3B in spring to see if they could get him some ab's there before Bryant is up and/or an insurance policy if Bryant can't stick it at 3B and has to move to LF?
  9. Does this mean there could be a non zero chance Bryant starts the year in MLB?
  10. What's the deal with them and Strasburg? Are they in disagreement over a contract like Harper?
  11. too many of those guys have no idea how good he is law needs to school olney schilling style He also has Coghlan 2nd and Castro 4th, it's pretty all-around goofy. Fowler Castro Rizzo Soler/Bryant Bryant/Soler Montero Then do 7-9 any number of ways depending on who you like to play 2B, LHP or RHP, pitcher 8th, etc. Solar should hit 2nd.
  12. Jesus, Strasburg/Scherzer/Zimmerman/Gonzalez/whoever is ridiculous.
  13. I'd take Mike Carp at this point
  14. Rain and wind gusts up to 40 MPH for the GB-Seattle game, that should definitely favor Seattle.
  15. I always thought with their plans/scope of work/anticipated weather (though mild so far) their timeframe was always a bit unrealistic. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be getting [expletive] for not meeting dates they've been promising.
  16. Didn't the Cubs sign him last year too and later cut him? I think so, either last year or the year before.
  17. We signed Daniel Bard to a minor league deal/ST invite, apparently
  18. Just because... Joey Votto age 24 season: .297/.368/.506 24HR 10% BB% 17.3% K% .328 BABIP Rizzo age 24 season (last year): .286/.386/.527 32HR 11.9% BB5 18.8% K% .311 BABIP
  19. Looking good, Jeremy.... http://nyc.barstoolsports.com/files/2015/01/jeremy-giambi.png
  20. I hope Favre shows up to it
  21. I still think they should convert him to a pitcher, with his arm
  22. The Mets are apparently charging their players (at least Minor League Players) to attend their offseason workout camp in Florida... http://deadspin.com/are-the-mets-charging-players-to-attend-offseason-worko-1679731273
  23. Evidence? Last year, this year is shaping up to also happen again.
  24. More times than not I'd say the best/better teams win in the NFL and advance in the playoffs.
