  1. Also maybe we are offering him an early opt-out or vesting option year(s) for a 5th/6th year in this hypothetical 4/65 offer that could bring it over $100 million that really gives him a max value contract if things fall right while still locking in a guaranteed market rate contract for him (4/65).
  2. The idea that Samardzija thinks reuniting with Bosio is the key to regaining his success seems incredibly logical. It does. The weird part is that he'd lock in his value for the next 4 years (and into his mid 30s) rather than try to parlay that into a payday, but maybe he's tired of gambling on himself. True, but how much value is he really leaving on the table by going 4/60-70? I mean I don't think the $100+ million contract (or even $20+ aav) is ever coming for him at this point, this year was his chance to get it and he performed to poorly. Even if he would try and do a 1 year prove it deal he's still 31/32 next year and he'd have to have to have an incredible year this coming year to make 4/60-70 look like he was leaving significant money on the table, imo.
  3. That would be so awesome if true, 4/65 is an incredible deal for him I feel like and should give us room to still make a significant signing
  4. Since we are talking "unusual" ideas what about Javy in CF?
  5. I'd put Heyward at leadoff. Heyward Bryant Rizzo Soler Schwarber Baez Montero Russell Arrieta Lester Shark Hendricks Hammel Rondon O'Day Strop Grimm Blevins +cast of thousands Where is Castro in this scenario? Traded for salary relief/prospects?
  6. Yes, also pedigree and stuff. He also turned up his cutter usage this past year, which obviously intrigues me bringing in him to work with Bosio/Arrieta
  7. I wonder what kind of guy Loria can stand? Maybe a player that pays him?
  8. Very interested in Miller if he's truly available/the price isn't crazy. I wonder how much more than Soler it would take to get Miller, Maybin and Grilli? (I would prefer giving up Baez as the main piece but it would probably take Soler to get a guy on Miller's level)
  9. Last year is the first season Fowler outperformed Gardner. Buoyed by a huge uptick in defensive numbers that it seems most believe are due to Wrigley/positioning. I'm guessing Fowler would outperform Gardner in a lot of previous years if he was playing mostly LF like Gardner has almost every year of his career. 2013 is the only year Gardner has logged more innings in CF than LF in his career.
  10. How is Brett freaking Gardner selling high on Starlin? He's basically an older, more expensive Coghlan who is slightly better at defense
  11. Yeah at that price, which seems low but who knows, I'm all in on Shark. Should leave enough room without having to do anything crazy to go after Heyward or Upton for CF/RF depending on if Soler gets moved or not (I look at Upton as a RF only option if Soler gets moved).
  12. In four years of constant waiver shuffling, the only player of any consequence that has emerged has been Valbuena, unless I'm just completely spacing out and missing someone. One free Valbuena every four years isn't nothing, but let's not overpraise the situation. I know it isn't a waiver claim but wasn't Rondon a Rule V pick? And how did we acquire Coghlan, was he just an outright FA?
  13. Is it at all possible Shark takes a 1 year deal to try and get it back together and cash in next offseason?
  14. He was nowhere near the worst pitcher in baseball last year. He had a 2.7 fWAR (39th in MLB),
  15. Actually, it is entirely true. His article says nothing about management wanting to move him. It mentions he wants to be traded and it mentions they aren't happy with his attitude, but it very clearly never says anything about management being willing to trade him. You would have to come to that conclusion yourself and if you did you can't say "according to the other guy who never said that." This is directly from Slater's website/article... That's right before he says the Marlins aren't happy with Fernandez's attitude. Nightingale is a boob, but I think he made a reasonable conclusion/tweet off of Slater's article. http://slaterscoops.com/news/2015/11/17/jose-fernandez-reportedly-on-trade-block
  16. That's not entirely true or false depending on how you look at Slater's articles about it.... http://deadspin.com/the-jose-fernandez-trade-rumors-just-started-and-report-1743497841
  17. I'm calling a modest Greinke-Heyward-Shark offseason. Seems very realistic and not expensive at all. Nope, not at all. Fernandez, Shark, Heyward, Ozuna offseason for me and a lot of Cubans. Nothing to see here.
  18. There is no way that's true Maybe we can swoop in and trump them with Coghlan for Salazar or Carrasco instead. Pfft, offer them Szczur if they push back up it to LaStella but that's the limit.
  19. Good for Hill, that contract is nearly twice as much as he's earned in his entire career.
  20. What's Zagunis' ceiling? Swisher with a little less power and a little more contact/BA?
  21. I'm in line with most all of that, though I don't think Teheran is *that* unimpressive. From the pure standpoint at looking at his velocity on Fangraphs it seems pretty unimpressive. I know there is more to it than velocity but he seems to be more of a guy, like Hendricks, who needs pinpoint command/control of his pitches to be effective because the raw stuff isn't overpowering.
  22. I just wonder if they'll demand that any return they get to have mlb ready pitching in return. And I don't mean Hammel. I mean I know they won't be headliners but including Hendricks and Edwards as 3rd and 4th pieces in a trade may be enough pitching for them, especially if the lead pieces are some combo of Soler, Baez, Mckinney, Contreras, Almora, Torres, etc. I think I would absolutely do a Soler/Contreras/Hendricks/Edwards trade for Fernandez and Ozuna.
  23. I think Baez is most likely but I think none of them end up getting traded
