  1. There was speculation (maybe rumor?) about a possible trade for Verlander involving him, but aside from that type of move, I can't imagine a team intent on winning a World Series next year doing that. Yeah it would be kinda tough to find a trade with him right now. We are obviously in a win-now mode and anyone trying to trade for him would be in a win-now mode since there's 1 year left and it would need to be mostly a pitching for pitching deal. The Verlander stuff made some sense, but seemed more speculation than anything with legs. Another fit could've been something like Arrieta to the Red Sox for Rodriguez and something else before the Sale deal possibly but the Red Sox are set now or Arrieta to the Nats for Giolito+. Doubt either team would do it for varying reasons but I guess a Arrieta for Urias or De Leon (main pieces but other stuff involved both ways) could possibly be something both teams would be interested in, if we just don't have an interest in keeping Arrieta after the year.
  2. I can't remember anyone, at least anyone who's opinions are generally good here, wanting to give him a blank check. It's pretty much all been let it play out and ride him hardish and if he leaves, he leaves unless he gives us a really team friendly deal.
  3. Unless he'd be willing to do something super team friendly like 5/75-90 (including buying out his arbitration this year) I have no interest.
  4. Lol [tweet] [/tweet]
  5. Yeah I think Strop is going to be his fine, solid self. I don't have a ton of worry there other than the basic worry of RP attrition. Rondon I do worry a lot more about, I more expect his arm to just completely blow up than get back to where he was in the first half this year or anything resembling it.
  6. I'm fine going there for the elite of the elites with no prior injury issues in Jansen and Chapman on top of them still being youngish. I get being against, and agree, not going there or in the 4/60 range for the Melancon's, Robertsons, etc of the world
  7. I'd have been perfectly fine with him back for that or even 5/95 if that's what it took
  8. Maybe Otani can be given part of the company that gets the new TV contract done in a few years as a work around
  9. Doesn't Eaton have a reputation for being quite a bit of a prick? Hopefully the combination of adding him, Dusty's dumbass hanging around and now the FO bitching about his future contract makes Bryce bolt out of there the minute he's a FA.
  10. Edwards starting in AAA, What!?!?!!!! No. He was our second best relief pitcher for a good chunk of the year behind Chapman and they brought him in Game 7 of the WS to save it ahead of Rondon and Strop. Short of an injury he's gonna be in the major league pen all year. Zas I agree starts in AAA as SP depth/development Maddon eluded to going Edwards over Rondon and Strop in game 7 because they just didn't seem like they were where they needed to be after coming back from injury. During regular season games was time to practice and try to get back to full health, not during the playoffs/WS. The few times they did go to Rondon, he clearly wasn't the same guy they expected him to be, so they went a different route with Montgomery, Edwards and extra frames from Chapman in high leverage situations. That doesn't mean that they won't have full faith in Strop and Rondon going into the 2017 season. Yeah that's all fine and good. But the point was they trusted him to close out the horsefeathering World Series after being our second best RP for most of the time after the ASB/after we acquired Aroldis. He isn't starting the year in AAA because "Depth" and so we can make a spot for Brian horsefeathering Duensing or the Spencer Patton's, Brian Schlitter's, Joe Smith's, etc. of the world for christ sake.
  11. The Mets fans didn't see it. They still don't believe it
  12. Don't think we are close..... CJ, Heyward, Javy, Russell, Jay, Montero, Contreras, Strop, Rondon, Almora. That's 40% of the roster that's not white.
  13. What are you even saying then? So many options Edwards may be in Iowa for depth but then 1 of those 4 other guys also isn't on the OD roster?

  15. I'll say the Dodgers
  16. That's loser talk, we're trying to build a goliath here
  17. That horsefeathering elbow better hold out for 50-70 innings this year+postseason innings
  18. No. In the hypothetical/error Nightengale tweet scenario of the Rockies signing Fowler..... The Rockies lose the 11th pick and we get a compensation pick somewhere between like picks 25-35. Wait. Don't the picks always come after the first round and not during? They come at the end of the first, before the first Competitive Balance Rounds. Here's how last years draft looked to give you a visual. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/16020441/complete-order

  20. That's not how it works
  21. He might not be able to play until after the ASB. Maybe that was he highest offer/only 2 year deal he had out there.
  22. I'd like to make sure his arm doesn't explode before May before going down that road
  23. This is a Cardinal writer, idk what this means. [tweet] [/tweet] Also GRB thinks Adams, Weaver and Rosenthal is preposterously too much for Blackmon......
  24. Forfeit the #11 pick too, right? Correct. Lol
  25. Well the bullpen has a chance to be elite and the best in MLB, it isn't likely all of Davis, Rondon, Strop, Grimm and Edwards stay healthy but there's depth and high, high level upside. Hopefully we can find another starter, though dealing Soler hurts that a bit in terms of assets to move (even though it lengthens the bullpen which helps the rotation). Still want to find someone to add to the rotation to move Monty back to the pen/be the swingman/6th starter/at least compete for the 5 spot in the rotation, along with another lower level bullpen/swingman/injury gamble type add in FA and hold out whatever little glimmer of hope Fowler falls back into our laps.
