  1. So who should we be looking to draft #1 overall in the draft next year?
  2. That ball was so low it might not have been a strike to one of Russell's 10 kids
  3. I don't have a problem with it from time to time. Especially on a night like tonight (I know Brewers have hit HRs). But down 1 with less than 2 outs I don't mind it when runs should be hard to come by.
  4. Where the hell was that catcher set up to catch that ball/tag Schwarber? Lol. If he catches that on the front side of home plate Schwarber is out by a ton
  5. Bryant missed some very hittable pitches that AB, at least he forced him to throw a lot of pitches
  6. Probably Stroman I lean this way too. Even if you had to use Baez to get him, the remaining infield defense combined with his 60% GB rate is tantalizing. Yeah I agree. If the asking price between Stroman and Quintana had a decent discrepancy I'd pick whoever cost "cheaper" but all things being equal I'd say Stroman.
  7. Agree, David, my feelings exactly. I think we should start the Javy realist's? Pragmatic's? club. I'm open to the naming rights of it.
  8. and it's a real hoot we're not even slightly perturbed we frivolously gave away a top-5 prospect but i don't think we'll be top-5 farm anytime soon; there's not a ton of depth there which actually should be how we (big-market club) prefer it: quality over quantity Eloy, Happ and Cease all could/should be within the top 15-20 prospects in MLB by the ASB. Eloy is already top 10. I think we actually are quite deep, those 3 guys are the quality but the quantity isn't lacking. I'm not a huge prospect follower but off the top of my head all of Jemier (obviously), Zagunis, Caritini, Hatch, Clifton, Williams, Pierce Johnson, Underwood, Zastryzny, and Mills all look like major league contributors in the very near future in some capacity (I'm sure I'm forgetting guys, especially pitchers). But then there's also Paredes, who could become a huge riser and also a lot of intriguing lower level/young pitchers that could take leaps (can't get overly specific here because I don't know enough about them but have seen it mentioned here), along with draft picks this year.
  9. Could we get Stroman without using 1 of Happ or Eloy? Would something like Jeimer, Cease, Zastryzny and like LaStella/Szczur (if they want a immediate ML guy) or else someone in the Zagunis/Underwood range if they want minor leaguers be enough? Why would they trade him without getting an upper level elite guy? Theres other teams in need. The cost of young pitching is expensive. It'd take more than just Happ or Eloy. Hell, it might take both of them. Which is why we will buy pitching or trade for more projects. Can we be sure Jeimer isn't that/becoming that? And certain teams out there may view him as a big time 3B prospect? By the time of the deadline, if Cease stays healthy, he could be one of the best pitching prospects in baseball (or at least have one of the highest ceilings). I'd be inclined to include Javy with that package I mentioned, or a variation of it with those names, if that's what it took as well. I agree on just generally buying or finding projects for pitching.
  10. Completely agree, they missed out on not getting one of those guys because with either they could push Cleveland. If the asking price was too high for them I get it, but still don't get why they didn't make a move on the margins still. The East is relatively open and the Cave have flaws, if they could've got any combination of Robin Lopez, Nurkic, Gallinari or Wilson Chandler for lower asking prices than PG/Jimmy I think those guys would have given them enough to challenge the Cavs. But as it sits now the Celtics are certainly too flawed to pass the Cavs and I think there's a better chance than not they don't even get out of round 1. I have a suspicion one of the reasons (maybe main reason) they didn't trade for PG/Jimmy is because they want to keep this years Brooklyn's pick (the Bulls/Pacers were likely adamant it was included in any deal) because they don't want IT long term as their point guard. They realize they likely aren't winning anything with him along with they don't want to pay him when he hits FA (which I think is within the next 2 years) so they want to take one of Fultz or Ball as his replacement this draft and then find a star another way (using other picks as it becomes more clear what those can become or thru FA).
  11. God I'd really love if Candelario could bring back Sean Reid-Foley. He should be not too far off come 2018, maybe ready to join the team after super 2 in mid July. First name that popped into my head that wasn't Stroman. Stroman would be suuuuuuch a beeast on this team. As far as pitching prospects go Reid-Foley is quality. Could we get Stroman without using 1 of Happ or Eloy? Would something like Jeimer, Cease, Zastryzny and like LaStella/Szczur (if they want a immediate ML guy) or else someone in the Zagunis/Underwood range if they want minor leaguers be enough?
  12. I don't think it's fair to put the weight of Jake Fox's legacy on his shoulders
  13. I had some momentary panic before I realized what thread this was. Sorry, fixed the original post to clear it up as JA Happ
  14. JA Happ to the DL, having an MRI on his elbow. Sounds like it could be bad. Would love to figure out a way to get Stroman when they become sellers
  15. Dumb series, bunch of bad luck and not executing on opportunities. Also horsefeathers Joe West, on to Milwaukee.
