  1. Not that the Giants are likely overly inclined to trade him but if he were to be traded, what would it take? I remember liking him going back to the draft he was in.
  2. Agree. I just meant if we targeted him I could see Almora being a piece of interest, not that I’d want to do that. I would rather just sign Cobb, Lynn or even bring back Jake (if the market doesn’t happen for a 5+ year 100+ mil deal) for 3-4 year deals with similar or less aav to Samardzija who all have pretty good chances of being as good or better than Samardzija over the next 3-4 years. If we are giving up one of our major league pieces I want a SP with more upside than Samardzija given there’s similar alternatives available for just cash (and maybe a draft pick).

  4. Almora would seem to make sense there, they need a CF and think they have said they want to get better on defense. Don’t know if he’s enough but at least a likely starting point. Secondly, does Tyler Beede have any value anymore? He could be a nice second/third SP added this offseason.
  5. I think that’s in the ballpark, if they really are that poor/desperate to lower payroll.
  6. The club music constantly being played at Dodgers Stadium may be the most annoying thing about this stupid team
  7. Passan tweeted during at least one of the abs this inning he threw out 2 balls before using one to pitch
  8. horsefeathering Chris Taylor
  9. Verlander is horsefeathering awesome, god damn I wish we got him
  10. Unless the Bears really liked one of the available WR probably best they stood pat if this was the going rate. Gotta think Hilton would be as much or more and Landry similar. Hold the picks and spend on WRs this offseason when there’s a real good class.
  11. The obvious answer to the person to take Martinez’s bench coach spot is Otani’s head coach or pitching coach or closest confidant he has in Japan.
  12. Signing Cobb and some combo of 1 to 2 of Wade, Holland, Shaw, Oh, McGee, Minor, etc would probably cost less than (potentially a good amount) Shark and Melancon and give you the same, if not better, production without the crazy trades. Just do that.
  13. I’d still do that without little question. I like Yelich that much and his fit on the team. Essentially paying Yelich 4/90 by taking on Chen’s contract is completely reasonable to me and should lower the acquisition cost in terms of players given up.
  14. Adding Otani to the equation would be all so huge for the “super team” window
  15. FWIW either Shefter or Rappaport said on draft day/up to it the Pats were demanding a 1st and Browns would only give up a 2nd. So it wouldn’t of happened on draft day and would’ve had to gamble on the asking price coming down during the year. Edit: Here’s the tweet
  16. Good idea. I posted some guys I could see reasoning for given who gets traded in the same thread. Agree on Cozart/Walker if it’s Russell/Javy, nobody else of significance really but would have to find some AAAA guy to to be an emergency SS at the very least in event of injury and no Cozart. If it’s Schwarber I think Martinez is highly unlikely. My guesses would be Jay, Cargo, Seth Smith or Jose Bautista all have varying degrees of intrigue/warts for me but would fit. My preference would be whichever of Cargo/Smith/Bautista take the fewest years (hopefully 1 at most guaranteed). If it’s Almora I’d say Jay, Cain, Dyson, Gomez and Maybin again all have things that intrigue and also things to not like but can fit. My preference would be bring Jay back and 1 of Gomez or Maybin for deals hopefully of only 1-2 years guaranteed. If it’s Happ I’d say any of the guys listed for Almora/Schwarber fit to varying degrees and like you said add Kendrick and even Eduardo Nunez (don’t know how long he’s out for after his injury in the DS). My preference would be whoever is cheaper in years between Nunez and Kendrick and then either bring back Jay or sign Smith or Gomez with one of Kendrick/Nunez.
  17. The trade rumor stuff I get, I personally think it’s absolutely ridiculous to trade Russell, but I get it’s a product of the offseason to suggest such things and with Theo’s positional player trade comment. What I don’t get and am already sick of is the argument that Javy is a better SS option than Russell if both are on the team. That’s just a stupid opinion that’s based on nothing of pure subjective nonsense with little to no facts or stats backing it up. [tweet] [/tweet]
  18. Re-watching the game today in the office. Cleveland just made it 3-2 in the top of the 6th. I have no idea how I survived this game, let alone the later parts of Game 7. I felt way more tense for this game than game 7. I'm not sure I actually breathed for 4 innings straight. Yeah I was at the game. It was nerve wracking
  19. I do agree with this, but there's just not looking like there's going to be a lot that actually is available. If 2 of this group gets dealt this off season, I'd feel pretty confident we got one of them. I'm honestly unsure of my preferences, out of this group. Fulmers medicals seem like he'd be a tough one to trade for over the off season though. Obviously acquisition cost needs to be factored in but of those named, I really only have interest in Stroman, Archer and Nola (rumored to be getting an extension so idk if he's really even going to be available). I don't really have interest in Manaea or Fulmer for various reasons (injuries being a main one and also them likely costing more than they are worth/risk I'm willing to take with their profiles).
  20. I generally agree with this and think it's the smart route. Go trade for whoever you want/feel comfortable giving up for a SP very early, sign the FA(s)to replace positional depth lost in the trade (Cozart or Walker if Javy or Russell is traded, can see an argument/reasoning for any of Jay, Cain, Cargo, Seth Smith, Bautista, Carlos Gomez, to replace Happ, Schwarber or Almora), sing FA RP(s), wait out to see which FA SP markets don't materialize (maybe even Jake with the QO, like Dexter)/wait out Otani.
  21. I doubt this is anything more than Rogers googling names rumored to be available around this past deadline and just rehashing it “hey the Cubs say the need pitching and likely will trade and these guys were maybe available, here’s a lazy column.” I doubt he has any real info that we are linked to any of these guys (or at least any new info since the deadline).
  22. What the hell is Barnes calling/Jansen wanting that he keeps shaking off Barnes??? He throws 1 horsefeathering pitch
