  1. If they would've cut him yesterday or Tuesday they would've saved another $200k or so. Maybe just how it worked out that today was the day but think it's another example of the FO treating guys decently by making sure Grimm got a little extra.
  2. Yes, they only owe him about $500k I believe so save around $1.5-2 million. This puts them maybe ~$13 million under so unless Holland comes super cheap (I don't have much care for him to begin with) I doubt they'd add him to basically have no room for anything in season.
  3. Morrow Edwards Strop Cishek Wilson Montgomery Duensing ...do the Cubs need others? My bet would be Butler, not that he's the best option but helps with depth in case of injury.
  4. It would be dumb if ever brought to MLB, but who gives a horsefeathers about MiLB game outcomes?
  5. Maybe I've just missed his appearances checking box scores but has Strop not pitched at all this spring? What's going on there?
  6. Sentence needed a reference to his back. I was reading an article in Golf Digest (if you buy anything from Global Golf you get a free subscription) about what people thought of Tiger's chances of winning the Masters. A lot of people were saying that they couldn't see it since he'd have to play great and other talented people would all have to not play as well. It occurred to me that this is true but it's also true of whoever wins. To win the Masters, Tiger will have to be able to hit his driver more accurately. He shouldn’t use his drive much, if at all, at Augusta. He should using his 3-wood or 2-iron off the tee nearly every hole.
  7. Chatwood is going to be close to finding God Mode Jake 2.0
  8. Yeah I like the move, Jordy looked awful last year (especially without Rodgers and his perfect throws/chemistry they have). I think at worst Graham gives you what Jordy was with Rodgers last year as an outside possession, jump ball type and at best he takes it up a notch closer to his Saints days in a better offense with a better QB he had the last few years in Seattle.
  9. Packers cutting Nelson
  10. Is he good anymore? Packers seem to have a ton of money stuck in receiving options.
  11. Very interesting. Makes sense for Yu to incorporate that since he goes strictly out of the stretch now to throw in some deception/different timing for hitters. Seems like a good blend of going to the stretch to simplify and repeat mechanics but still keep some benefits of the wind up for deception.
  12. If they are done with him and want Butler to get that last bullpen spot I wouldn't be surprised if he's cut before Wednesday this coming week (which is the 15 day prior to OD cut line). Maples? He hasn’t been that great and with the options I’m guessing he starts in AAA so we can keep some depth with Butler or Grimm since they don’t have options. Butler makes the most sense to me in case a starter goes down early.
  13. Losing Jake has me more emotionally bummed than losing Dexter. Maybe it was because Dexter went to the Cardinals so the hate for them made me not feel as bad, he's the better player and cooler dude who we still could use more and it sucked losing him knowing how good of friends he was with everyone but Jake hurts me more on an emotional level for some reason, maybe it's because Jake was here longer and seemed more part of the rebuild and found/developed by the FO or something like that but man this sucks more than it should for me and I keep trying to look at this objectively to get over it.
  14. [tweet] [/tweet]Long story short, Sherman decided to negotiate his contract by himself and did a woeful job. I literally LOL’d at this quote.
  15. I had to double check and make sure the Brewers beat writer didn’t accidentally copy and paste the Reds starting rotation instead of the Brewers
  16. I know the Pirates WC game has been talked about but one of my favorite Jake memories from that game (and Jake in general) is when he struck out that guy early on and you could visibly see him say “that’s horsefeathering right.” I thought there was a gif of that but couldn’t find it.
  17. There have been tweets that the Packers and 49ers are our biggest competition for Robinson. Speculation is Nelson and Cobb are seen as possible cuts. What's up with Nelson, is he just washed up, not the same since his injury, or his numbers suffered from not having Rodgers most of the season? All of the above. He’s really not any good anymore other than him and Rodgers having good chemistry and timing on those back shoulder throws. He probably should be cut for what they are paying him. He pretty much needs the best QB in the league who he’s familiar with to have any value. You put him with a average-below average WB and I think he’ll disappear pretty quickly from the league. Packers still only have like $12-16 million in space right now so to cut Nelson and add Robinson (would assume roughly a wash on salary/cap hit) when they still need all that’s defensive help doesn’t make sense to me when in theory Rodgers can get by with not expensive/less talented receivers.
  18. Why would the Packers be in on Robinson? They have like the most expensive receiving group in the league and they need to spend money elsewhere because they have holes everywhere on defense. There have been tweets that the Packers and 49ers are our biggest competition for RobinsonSeems like a poor use of resources by them

  20. Very solid move for them, he helps them out for a number of reasons.
  21. It’s up there if it isn’t the best with the others mentioned here but also Bobby Hill and some guy named Matt Bruback for Kenny Lofton and Aramis Ramirez was pretty damn great. Lofton was awesome in that 2003 playoff run and Ramirez goes without saying.
  22. First run through my bracket I ended up with Nova-Virginia. I really like Nova and their path but it seemed almost every game picking was a damn near coin flip and half the teams I had in the 8 and on I could see losing opening weekend.

  24. Grimm with 1IP 3H 2ER 0BB 0K 1HR in his outing today. He's sucked hard and Cubs Insider/AZ Phil pointed out recently that by going to arbitration with Grimm (something they strategically may have wanted to do) allows for this.... If they are done with him and want Butler to get that last bullpen spot I wouldn't be surprised if he's cut before Wednesday this coming week (which is the 15 day prior to OD cut line).
