With controlled SP, this does seem to happen once in a while. The Rangers did it with Hamels, Pirates with Archer, I’m sure there’s other examples. -
I gotta say, if they don’t do a big trade or two tomorrow I’m checking out until September from the day to day following. If they’re still in it then I’ll follow more closely then. They’re still probably winning this division, but this is just a chore to watch and has the same stench of last year with the offense (they somehow were over .500 in Aug and Sept last year with it). Good thing is the rest of the division sucks and nobody is going on a VB’s like 44-12 run or whatever they did from Aug-Sept.

I know he’s his personal catcher and some horsefeathers but Vic ain’t hitting enough right now or a good enough defender to be Yu’s personal catcher. Willy throws out that runner right there, for example.

I’m sure he’ll fall back in to a bench role or when he plays hit 7/8/9. He’s still better than Descalso.

Willy/KB/Rizzo/Javy should be the top 4, in that order, regardless of LHP/RHP until Zobrist comes back or we make trade (Whit), IMO. Backfill 5-9 with whoever else is playing on a given night.

But that's almost definitely a stretch. It's the smallest of complaints, but I'd love for someone to explain putting Vic, Schwarber, and Happ in that order.

I don’t mind this move for next year (don’t give a horsefeathers about using the Thomas Hatch’s of the world for real MLB talent). But it seems dumb to basically have to 25 man a guy who’s still clearly working his way back from TJ when we have thin margins the rest of the way. Would be nice if we could phantom IL him until September and let him work his way back in AAA or wherever. -

We got cash back in the deal too, he also has a cheap team option for next year. $1 mil if under 30 games, $3 mil if between 30-39, $5 mil if 40-49. He’s not reaching that $5 mil threshold. -
