  1. Anybody know anything about either of these guys? I am assuming neither of them can be that great.
  2. I would think the PTBNL has to depend on how well Hill pitches for them this year, if he somehow pitches like he did in 06/07 then I would think we would get a better prospect than if he wastes away in AAA trying to figure things out again this year.
  3. I don't see Hill turning it around in the AL East, those offenses are going to destroy what's left of his career, the NL West is probably the only division he could have figured it out. Pitching in bigger parks and against weak offenses would have helped him a lot.
  4. There were rumors at the start of the offseason that Crosby might be available, maybe Wuertz + a minor leaguer or two could get it done, we need a backup SS/3B/2B.
  5. Was Marmol working on another pitch or something during winter ball? Or did he flat out suck?
  6. Pretty sure Griffey signed as a FA with Cincy This was the trade. Did he then sign an extension with Cincy after the trade?
  7. Pretty sure Griffey signed as a FA with Cincy
  8. Agreed. Those guys are terrible. Silva mine as well be just going up into the stands and taking people's money out of their pockets. Or just pick one of them to pitch for him every game, the results wouldn't be any worse.
  9. I know he was/still might be hurt, but is there anyway we might be able to get Bedard? What was his injury even? Was it serious?
  10. Those are some really good numbers he posted. Should be interesting to see how he does once he moves higher up in the rotation.
  11. I think that Hoff will start in AAA to get everday AB's and he will be the first one up once Bradley/Soriano/Lee/Ramirez/Johnson gets hurt or if Fontenot/Fukudome are doing bad. I think we will sign Aurillia or Millar to be the primary pinch hitter and backup 1B/3B. My only question is who the F is out backup SS?
  12. And to think we could have gotten Roberts for him last year at this time. We might have even of been able to trade him, with others, for Santana.
  13. His value is so low right now that whoever we get for him is never going to amount to anything, unless we get extremely lucky. We might as well just keep him through ST and see if he can figure it out and if he still sucks just non-tender him or put him on waivers.
  14. Even if it's not true, but it gets spun that Ricketts and his group were the reason Peavy wasn't traded for he/they might never be supported or trusted by Cubs fans for a very long time. Un-[expletive] believable if it's true, I thought we had a owner that wanted to win and was willing to do everything possible to do so.
  15. The key will be if Hochevar and Bannister fulfill their potential, if those two can pitch like #2/3 pitchers they have a well above average rotation, but if they continue to pitch like they have that is just an average to below average rotation. I think they will be somewhere between 76-83 wins this year, I like the idea of them signing sheets. 1-2-3 of Sheets, Grienke, and Meche could go up against just about anyones 1-2-3 when they are all healthy/pitching effective.
  16. Could he be any worse than Theriot playing there? Yes. Theriot isn't good, but he's not *that* bad. I meant more defensively than offensively, Theriot will probably hit for a little better AVG and Hudson will hit at a higher SLG%, both will have similar OBP's. Hudson, most likely, will play better defense. O-Dog has never logged an inning at SS however. Does Hudson cost a draft pick?
  17. Could he be any worse than Theriot playing there?
  18. Doesn't sound real to me but if it is wow what a crappy offseason. Hey come on now, Juan Uribe, Paul Bako, Randy Wolf, and Braden Looper are still out there :swoon:
  19. If we are looking to sign a guy to compete for the 5th starter spot I would rather we sign Mulder or Jennings to a incentive laden deal or even a minor league deal and see if one of them turn it around. At least Mulder and Jennings have had success in the past, Shark/Marshall/Gaudin/Heilman can equal or even be better than what Looper will do. If Jennings/Mulder figure it out/stay healthy they at least have the potential to be #3 starters Looper is a fringe #4 and more a #5.
  20. Doesn't the Cubs FO have to say they aren't talking to the Padres about Peavy? For collusion reasons? Or could someone like Hendry/Bush/Kenny say they are discussing him either with the Padres or internally? At what point does it become collusion? When someone comes out and literally says they are in the process of trading for Peavy? Or is it collusion if they even make the notion that they may be trading/talking about trading for him?
  21. I don't see why the Padres would want Heilman over Marshall, but if they do that's fine with me. If a peavy trade happens, which I have my doubts about now, I think Heilman came on to replace Marshall as the swingman and make Marshall more available in a potential deal. I don't think he was brought on to be added to a Peavy deal.
  22. A rotation of Webb/Haren/Davis/Garland/Scherzer or Petit should certainly be a top 5 NL rotation, especially if Scherzer pitches to his potential.
  23. i love how people make that "thrown out at 2nd base on a walk" thing into some completely idiotic move. didn't he just overslide the bag or something? oversliding the bag isn't idiotic? Because it was a 3-2 count with 2 outs there is no need to slide because 1. The batter makes an out either a ball in play or K, inning over 2. The batter walks, he moves to second and even if their is a throw that beats him he is still safe 3. The batter fouls off a pitch, he goes back to first 4. The batter gets a hit, in which case sliding into second is completely idiotic because he could potentially advance to 3B or even score if he stays on his feet and sees where the ball is going Was it really a 3-2 count? I don't remember. Why did the catcher even throw it then? It was a 3-2 count, but there was only 1 out, I thought there was 2. So a slide was warranted, but still he should have been looking in to see if the pitch was a strike/ball because he could have let up once he saw it was a ball. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270420116
  24. i love how people make that "thrown out at 2nd base on a walk" thing into some completely idiotic move. didn't he just overslide the bag or something? oversliding the bag isn't idiotic? It was a mistake. It happens more than people let on. I don't really see how it's "idiotic". I think it was a big deal becuase A) it was the tying run in the 9th inning (I think, maybe the tying run was the person who just walked), B) Cedeno had already started a reputation of being aloof, C) Some people may go past second on a walk, but very very few get thrown out, and D) This was during the start of the 06 Cubs collapse It was 07
