  1. Braun just hit one
  2. well they've got jordan zimmerman and soon they'll have strasburg, so there's 2 pitchers. The Nat's should def. improve within the next few years if they make the right moves. Guzman has actually been pretty decent the last year or so. Strasburg will probably be pitching by the end of this year with them if he signs quickly, if nothing more than to generate interest and get more fans/media attention. I really doubt Strasburg will sign quickly. But they'll probably try to save money with this pick since they'll have to shell out for Strasburg. I thought I saw on ESPN the other day that they were going to start talking to him soon to try and get something done, I know he has Boras so it will get dragged out but it's possible they get a deal done before/within a few weeks after the draft. I agree with you in that they will probably draft someone who is more like to be a 2-4th rounder with the second pick to save money.
  3. So how many more days until we see the opening day lineup again? I am thinking it won't show itself until maybe the middle of June.
  4. I am thinking that the Celtics tonight even up over the Magic is as close to a lock as possible. They aren't going down 2-0 at home, I am putting a 8 gamer on it.

  6. Yeah I know he was scheduled to be a FA after this year, but I forgot he signed an extension last year/offseason.
  7. What ever happened with that gun charge thing he had going on? I know his production has been way down the last 1 1/2-2 years and he has noticeably gotten slower/less athletic/not as good, but I wonder if teams are expecting some sort of charges to come down and he might have to serve some jail time or something. Also a situation like that can bring unwanted attention to a locker room, training camp, and pre/post game stuff. It's actually really shocking to me how quickly he had fallen from 99-06 he had gone over 1000 yds and 10 TD's in every season. Then the last two years he just completely lost it, he always seemed like a guy to me that could last longer because he had such good hands, body control, ran good routes, and had a really good QB throwing to him.
  8. Because Sherill is LH and that is important to Piniella and Hendry. Also, over the long haul I'd expect Sherrill to be better than Gregg. Sherrill would also be under the Cubs control next year where Gregg is a FA. I think the intention is to groom Marmol for the closer role. I would be interested in Jose valverde, who I believe is up for free agency, but if we cant find an upgrade, Id just assume go with Gregg and Marmol. There should be a decent amount of closers/good late inning guys available around the deadline, Sherill- probably 7/8 inning with us Cordero-if the Reds make him available and we take on most of the contract Valverde- I pray to god that he never becomes a Cub he is one of my least favorite players in MLB Nathan-FA after this year? might be on the block if Twins fall out Street- FA after the year, hasn't been that good in the last year or so, but would probably be somewhat cheap Mike Gonzalez/Rafael Soriano- if the Braves fall out of it both could be made available but both would probably be used in 6/7 inning roles. Scot Shields-Angels could make him available with their lack of SP depth and Arredondo/Fuentes at the back end. Shields has struggled early on, but he has been a very good 7/8 inning guy the last few years Capps? anyone on the A's/Padres that could be made available?
  9. Regardless of what ESPN says, he hasn't shown/done anything that proves he is a starter. Unfortunately Hendry/Lou/Larry seem hell bent on making him a starter. He has barely shown he is a relief pitcher in mop up duty, outside of a decent few weeks last year. I know he is young and has decent, raw, stuff but he hasn't shown much to me that proves he can become even a league average pitcher.
  10. Hampton looks like he would either be selling insurance, real estate, or cars (possibly used) in that picture.
  11. That's a very sad fantasy. He's eligible at just about every position. That's what makes him so valuable. So because he can play every position he's valuable. Why don't you check with your league admin. and ask him to get my name into the available FA pool and qualify me to play 3B/SS/OF/2B. I will contribute just as much to your fantasy team.
  12. LOL Sweet Tie dyed shirts bros. Someone needs to tell those guys it's not the late 80's/early 90's.
  13. Gathright, CF Miles, 2B Fukudome, RF Lee, 1B Hoffpauir, LF Fontenot, SS Scales, 2B Hill, C Marshall, P
  14. At least we don't face the big unit this series. IIRC we don't do so well against him... Like never beating him once in his career. 13-0 in 14 GS, 1.84 ERA, .974 WHIP, 67 H in 102.2 IP.
  15. Cubs WIN!!! That dive by Kosuke was out of the Jim Edmonds play book.
  16. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4131693 Is Steve Phillips back with Mets? What a terrible signing.
  17. Yeah no kidding. Send Lilly, Marshall, or Dempster out there. Lets hope it's nothing more than a strain/pull for Z and he only misses a start or gets bumped back a day or 2.
  18. You gotta be effin kidding me, that's like the 3rd time this year where we had a runner on 3rd less than 2 outs and lined out to the 3B.
  19. I could be wrong, but didn't Volstad come either up from the minors or off the DL to face us last year and completely shut us down in the series at Wrigley against them? Also any word on Ramirez? I would think if he has to be out through the weekend they would consider putting him on the DL.
