  1. For as shitty as the Pac-10 was this year, the Oregon v. WSU games has been very entertaining, especially the last 5ish minutes of the 2nd half.
  2. I don't know if I have ever seen a team, collectively, from a major D1 conference with worse ball handling/security/control skills than St. Johns. One of St. John's last possessions where Hayward picked that guy at the top of the key, I have seen better crossovers than that in grade school leagues.
  3. After that inning Z will probably say in the postgame interview that he is going to start throwing his cutter again.
  4. See the Giants are picking up from last season in their approach at the plate. Didn't they have a team OBP just north of .300?
  5. Yeah me too. So if you "plan not to compete," but manage to have a good year and you have a good enough record to make the playoffs would you still go? Would you not be allowed? Would you have a decision, since after all you weren't "planning on competing?"
  6. I hope he continues to run his mouth about Chicago all season and Z put's one between his ears when we play them in Seattle. The thing is last year I liked Bradley and didn't really have a problem with him. But this [expletive] is just getting old.
  7. Milwaukee journalist Mike Hunt's take on the issue. Funny he seems no never of had a problem when the Brewers were taking tens of millions of dollars through revenue sharing a few years back or that they funded their stadium with a tax that is going to be in place longer than expected now (through 2016ish). Also who would have thought he would mention the WS drought in his article? Real trailblazing journalist we have here. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/87177442.html
  8. Most recent info I could find, Rotoworld from Sept. 30: Thanks, doesn't really sound like he is a option... With the Guzman, Lilly (meaning a bullpen arm will be in the rotation), and Gray (if it takes longer for him to heal) injuries, would they think about Cashner in the bullpen? I would prefer him to start in the minors and continue to develop as a starter and just go with guys like Stevens, Guab, Parker, Archer, Berg, or Atkins in the bullpen as internal options over him.
  9. Riccardi generally asks for quite a bit, I think. I certainly wouldn't go any higher than Barney, though I bet Riccardi would want more. Riccardi isn't the GM anymore, Alex Anthopoulos is. But yeah, I guess I could maybe see them trying to get someone like Burke or Carpenter knowing that Hendry could be/is desperate to add bullpen arms.
  10. Just looking at their raw numbers (record, RPI, SOS), Cal might, but they don't have any good wins. Lunardi has ASU stealling an at-large, FWIW. If both Cal and ASU make the championship in the Pac Ten tournament and it's a close game I could see the loser getting an at large bid. I guess a case could be made for Washington, if they make the championship (by beating ASU) and lose a close game to Cal.
  11. What's Chad Bradford's situation? He's a FA, but I noticed he only pitched 10 innings last year is he still hurt? He's posted some decent numbers in the past. At least decent enough to warrant a ST invite.
  12. What would it take to get Frasor? Maybe Barney, Flaherty, or Watkins (Figured Hendry would start to try and trade from our MI depth)? Or would could we get away with a lesser level prospect(s)?
  13. Is Volquez expected to be back at all this year?
  14. How close is he to the bigs? I know they got Suzuki blocking him at the ML level, but haven't heard much about him since the Harden trade (not that I was really paying attention).
  15. Did Silva switch teams and go pitch for the A's that inning?
  16. Is it that out of the question for Colvin to make the team over Fuld? Or do you think they will want Colvin to be getting everyday ab's in the minors for a couple months?
  17. If everything goes right with the Nationals rotation (Strasburg is legit, Marquis has a good year for his standards, Wang rebounds, and Lannan/Zimmerman take the next step) I could see them getting into the 72-75 win territory, their offense is more than good enough. Also I don't see the Mariners being all that good this year, their offense is pretty bad and their rotation is questionable at best after Lee/Felix.
  18. It would help to have a 1B who can actually hit though, especially if they bring nothing to the table defensively. If Soriano moved to 1B I don't think it would be out of the question he could return to 30-35 HR form. The amount of wear and tear on his knees/quad/calf moving from LF to 1B would decrease dramatically and he could probably stay healthy a lot easier. He could also probably focus on "bulking up" a bit and adding more weight and muscle as he wouldn't need to use his speed at 1B and it seems he is coming to terms that he is no longer a base stealer.
  19. Moving Soriano to 1B would presumably allow us to sign Crawford, Hawpe, or Kubel for LF. As opposed to keeping Soriano in LF and keeping Lee at 1B or signing Berkman, Dunn, Overbay, Pena or the outside chance of a trade for Gonzalez if he isn't traded during this season. Both options let us get more left handed, while Crawford would be the only guy that would help us get more athletic/fast. He will be 30 though so his speed/athleticism will likely be on the decline through his next contract. The rest of the guys would probably come close to or exceed Lee's production/power numbers.
  20. If for whatever reason Lee isn't brought back Overbay on a 1-2 year deal wouldn't be horrible, he is going to likely be cheaper than Lee and Pena and would be a decent short term fix at 1B until we could find a long term fit. Question? If Dunn shows he can play a serviceable 1B this year defensively, at least not the -60 or whatever he is in the OF, would you guys want him to be brought in to play 1B? Lee has clearly been very productive for us and a big part of the organization over the last few years, but if Hendry feels we need to be more lefthanded it seems as though 1B in this coming offseason is clearly the position that has the most available options of LH hitters that can be around as productive as Lee.
  21. Don't know where to exactly put this, but Castro might be starting at SS on Thursday. http://muskat.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/03/31_the_kids_will_get_a_chance.html
  22. Figure of speech. If you asked me if I would trade Peavy for the packages that the White Sox gave up or for the rumored packages the Cubs were offering, I would not. You would give up a lot for potentially one year of Adrian Gonzalez, since he becomes a highest bidder free agent at the end of his remaining one year deal? I'm not as bold as you. I'd be willing to give up any of our prospects outside of Castro for him, assuming we could get a long term deal worked out.
