  1. So this offseason has seen the transformation of "moran" from "infrequently used inside joke" to "everyday word" Thanks, hendry
  2. I don't know how many people will agree, but I for one am glad that trade is false. Why don't you want abreu? If the only limitation is no Z or Prior, I don't want Abreu. The Philles have a hole at 3B, no?[Ramirez] They don't need D Lee, but if they could get him they could then go get a 3B AND top of the line starter. I don't get it, you'd only take abreu if you could get rid of z or p in the process? that's just weird
  3. Dirk took out 2 bulls with elbows and scored 35?
  4. I don't know how many people will agree, but I for one am glad that trade is false. Why don't you want abreu?
  5. Probably not, though I'd give it nearly 50-50 odds. but I think we'll lose at least one and that'll be that for orton
  6. If so, sign him up. I'm sure he would go to NY, Arlington or retire, but the Cubs have some serious cash to spend and there are not many players available worthly of getting that cash. I realize there is no chance in hell of us signing him. if we can't get a trade for abreu, that's probably the best use of our money at this point. But I'd bet on him retiring instead.
  7. So you want to panic, sign bad players to contracts that will A) not get us into the playoffs and B) keep us from going there in the future? Jacque jones is not the answer.
  8. Pay no attention to the marlins behind the curtain Pay no attention to their 2 World Series trophies!!! I wonder if you realize that you just argued against yourself
  9. Whoa, wait a minute..... Furcal is going to make more than Tejada? Looks like tejada is making 10/12/13/13
  10. On the one hand, I like the idea, set up a stacked team in the future. On the other hand, baker is gonna snap zambrano's arm, prior is going to take a line drive off the skull, and lee is never going to be more expensive to sign than he is at this moment. So I guess i'm saying that if I was feeling optimistic, I'd tell the cubs to forfeit 2006 Wow, that's pathetic
  11. espn story Basically, bowl eligible teams are more likely to be failing the ncaa's new academic standards. Shocking. No mention of how players not graduationg because they left for a pro job affects the scores. I'd be pretty miffed if my school was penalized for not having enough players graduate if the difference between paassing and failing was players going to the pros early.
  12. I'd just support a ban on the french language.
  13. They're hoping an IF on the cubs gets injured, god knows what hendry would trade to get a replacement for neifi
  14. And why would his arbitration figure go down after having maybe the best seasons of one of the best careers of all time? edit: point being, you can always use another jet.
  15. For the record, maddux's ERA in his first 8 games was 3.80
  16. I respectfully disagree my friend. While not being the sub 2.00 era and 20+ win seasons, Maddux typically always gives you enough to win a game. He is an amazing pitcher ... just takes him about 7, 8 starts to warm up. I do recall a <95 pitch performance against the Brewers last September that was an absolute masterpiece to watch! I'll take him as our 5th starter anyday of the week, and twice on Sunday's! A) 8 starts=1/4 of the season. B)After those starts he had games where he gave up 5 runs, 7 runs, 6 runs, 5,6,6,5,5. So aside from the quarter of the season where you expect him to suck, he had a full third of his starts end in disaster.
  17. If the 4/$48 is true, then the cards offered more money (adjusting for taxes and cost of living) in fewer years by a guy who says he grew up a fan. that's worse
  18. Baltimore might not trade tejada for all of our top 5 prospects. He's that good and his contract is that reasonable and they make good money. He's making millions less than furcal. Aside from jeter, ichiro, and pujols, I can't think of anyone that might be harder to get in a trade. And jeter might be off that list by now
  19. I think he's great at trades: The Good: Lee acquisition for a mediocre/bad Choi Ramirez/Lofton/Simon acquisition Karros/Grudz acquisition for freaking Hundley Nomar/Murton acquisition for crap Barrett acquisition (he was traded for correct?) Clement part of the acquisition (Willis was thrown in at the very end as a throw-in no one thought he'd be great) The Bad: Sosa trade Farnsworth trade Cruz trade So basically when Hendry devalues a player, the trades suck (pretty intuitive) and when he doesn't devalue them he fleeces opposing GM's, for the most part. I'd say he sucks at FA but is good at trading, making him an average to slightly above average GM. I think he just focuses too much on "toolsy" guys. You forgot the macias trade.
  20. $48/4 to play for the cards vs $55/5 for the blue jays? That would be an incredibly easy choice for me Fixed That would be a much tougher choice since i don't want to move to canada. not sure why you "fixed" that, anyway
  21. $48/4 to play for the cubs vs $55/5 for the blue jays? That would be an incredibly easy choice for me
  22. It's no longer fun to make fun of him if he can't read it. He can still read it, you just won't know if he is
  23. the corey bashers were always here. the corey defenders just got a lot quieter when he had an attrocious season.
  24. And planes can't take off if there's a little rain.
