  1. I completely disagreed with McCarthy calling that second timeout. Stupid.
  2. These refs are horribly bad. They are not necessarily benefitting either team. They are just plain horrible.
  3. Your 13-time World Champion Green Bay Packers!
  4. Hopefully he's a better passer than Chase's other little brother. I once blocked (cleanly) a shot by Chase Coffman at the rec center. He went ballistic on me, bumped me in the chest and yelled, "If you ever lower your shoulder at me again..." The WR Tommy Saunders came up to me later and told me he does the same thing in practice whenever somebody would best him one-on-one. Dude was a good TE but a total jerk.
  5. I guess I'm surprised that nobody blocked the trade by claiming some of the other involved players that were put on waivers. Had the Dodgers players already cleared waivers before Gonzalez was claimed? I would have thought one of the NL contenders would have made a claim on Loney just to halt the process.
  6. Big weekend series for Reds/Cardinals. Really hope the Reds at least take 2 out of 3.
  7. Doesn't deserve it's own thread. Not really on topic here, but whatever. I think somebody said something somewhere in this thread about declining fan support. Received this in my email today: 1. THEY COST THAT MUCH?! 2. It really doesn't seem that awesome. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/ticketing/premier/dailysuite.jsp
  8. Seems like that's about right. http://www.news-journalonline.com/sports/baseball/daytona-cubs/2012/08/11/team-president-epstein-visits-daytona-cubs-at-jack.html We'll see what he thinks about that when we're in a tight playoff race or lose a playoff game.
  9. Went to the Royals/White Sox game tonight. Nothing amazing but kind of interesting. Dunn hit his 400th HR, Youkilis got his 1000th hit and Billy Butler got his 900th hit. All in the same game.
  10. Ha. That's my wife's birthday.
  11. My first Cubs game was 8/5/95 at Busch. I was 7. Cubs won 1-0. I vividly remember Scott Servais' HR landing in the LF bullpen as I was sitting in the front row of the LF bleachers. My first game at Wrigley was 5/13/96. I remember walking up the ramp to the upper deck on the first base side of home and getting my first view of the field. Both my brother and I said, "Whoa!" I'll never forget that. This was also the game I learned to keep score. Brian Hunter lead off the game with a double down the third base line (I think past a diving Kevin Orie). My dad turned to me and said, "Well, there goes the no-hitter!" Steve Trachsel then proceeded to record 27 outs without giving up another hit. Grace drove in Sandberg in the bottom of the first. Cubs won 6-0. Sosa hit a HR. McRae caught the last out of the game. Also, I think Luis Gonzalez hit a HR too. These are my memories. OK, Gonzalez did hit a HR. I just checked the Baseball Reference page: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN199605130.shtml
  12. I'm ok with them shutting him down. I just don't know why they felt the need to tell the whole world before the season started what their plans were. It opened them up for scrutinization all season. Not to mention, for possible leverage reasons you don't want other teams to know your situation when you can avoid it.
  13. I'm guessing both sides moved on when the DBacks asked about Castro and Theo responded with at least two of Upton/Skaggs/Bauer. Theo could have responded with a flat "No" as well...
  14. If we pretend the Delgado deal never was on the table how do we feel about the moves Theo actually made?
  15. I doubt any of those guys are going out of their way with 7 [expletive] minutes left before the deadline to talk to you, Jim [expletive] Bowden. FFS I have now made it my goal in life to find Mozeliak's cell number and get a large group of people to start texting the number 15 minutes before a deadline in which they're trying to make a major deal.
  16. I want to know what it's like in that office right now. Who's fielding what phone calls? What happens when at 2:55 somebody comes completely out of the blue with an offer?
  17. Don't these guys want to win? I know there are other factors, but I don't understand that.
  18. I'm surprised we haven't heard even conjecture that the Diamondbacks could be interested in Dempster given his comments yesterday about having a home in Phoenix (in the context of being close to LA) and the DBacks going after a SP.
  19. I know this has been said, but this is really, really fun.
  20. I couldn't find it anywhere online, but my dad said he heard on the radio this morning that the Giants were interested in Soriano. He didn't know who said it though... So there must have been a little something to that story. I'm sure by the radio he was talking about XM which was probably Jim Bowden.
  21. Take it for what it's worth: That was three hours ago, but I didn't see it posted here.
  22. Why doesn't Theo just tell Dempster LA is not an option? If they're so far away from the Braves offer tell Dempster he can either go to ATL or stay in Chicago. No other options.
