  1. If the team being competitive was important to Anibal I would have loved to hear that spiel.
  2. Or, they could get the "We believe we can better use our resources than what it will take to get him to change his mind" award. That's not a real award. I'm pretty sure Kyle could make it.

  4. Supposedly he signed 5/$80MM with Tigers. Nightengale from Anibal's agent.
  5. If true it sounds like the Cubs are going to get every chance to respond to a Tigers matching offer (and have).
  6. The Super Bowl line was great because that is really going to get under Finley's skin.
  7. I'm happy that they're trying to sign a significant FA this offseason because of what it means. Can I still be upset if they don't get him? Yes. But I can still realize what this means. One of the major discussions on NSBB this offseason has been, "Why aren't we adding at least some of the future pieces via free agency?" And it is a good question. At least now we know they're willing to do so. It's significant. Great, so we can chalk it up with the missed IFA signings on the "man, it's a good plan, but it's not actually happening" board. Before tonight we didn't know if they were even willing to sign a long-term FA this offseason. Now we know. Obviously getting the deal done is still (more) important, but at least acknowledge it's significant that they're willing to do so. I'm not saying, "Well, at least they tried. Still love you, Theo." I'm saying, "Sweet. They're actually trying! Hope they get it done!"

  9. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/anibal-sanchez-and-the-rebuilding-cubs/ Even if we don't end up with him I think we can all be happy that they were willing to go after him like this. This is the kind of signing I think we've been looking for to give us hope that 2014 would be a legitimate contending season.
  10. Sounds like somebody wants to be in Anaheim instead of where he's at.
  11. It's easy to think that way. It seems like the roster is full of "team" players and Finley is a "me" player. He also drops a lot of balls and complains that they don't throw it to him enough. He also felt slighted in how he was treated (not alone in this one) as an injured player during the weeks leading to the SB. And, of course, he's the only guy on the team that Skip Bayless likes. This is mainly due to the fact that Finley doesn't like Rodgers and Bayless doesn't like Rodgers, because, you know, Rodgers treated Favre bad by being really good and quickly making Packers fans forget who Favre was and that wasn't very nice because Skip loves Favre and the Packers treated Favre so bad, and Favre is Skip's boy, and Rodgers did everything he could to avoid the Favre vs. Packers drama, but he probably should have just convinced McCarthy that he really should be the backup and Favre should be the starter, and they were just so mean to Favre, and if Rodgers just wasn't so good and didn't handle everything so well then it wouldn't have made Favre look so bad... Well, you get it.
  12. Looking at the Giants schedule, I don't think they make the playoffs. Also, SF is not a lock in the West since the only road game the Seahawks have left is at Buffalo. When I do the playoff machine I have the Redskins winning the East and the Seahawks winning the West. Giants still play at BAL and at ATL. 49ers are at SEA and at NE. I think the seeds end up: 1 ATL 2 GB 3 SEA 4 WAS 5 SF 6 CHI Of course this could all just be wishful thinking on my part. I don't want to see the Giants in the playoffs. The Ravens have been winning with smoke and mirrors all season. They barely beat the Cowboys and had no business beating the Chargers. They aren't nearly as good as their record. That game at the end of the year will be meaningless to Atlanta since they will already have HF. Meanwhile, talk here is that they might rest RGIII this week. They can't win without him. The Giants play the Falcons this week. Even with a win the Falcons would not lock up HF unless SF and GB lose. And that doesn't matter because it's a noon game. If the Packers win out and the Falcons go 1-2 the Packers hold the tie breaker. If the 49ers win out and the Falcons go 1-2 the 49ers would have a better record. The Falcons will not be in rest mode against the Giants. True on Baltimore, but you never know which Giants team will show up. The game at Baltimore is far from a lock. Also, I'm fairly certain that both the Cowboys and the Redskins would hold the tie breaker over the Giants. Even if the Giants beat the Ravens and go 2-1 I wouldn't be surprised to see either of those teams go 3-0 and beat them out. Since the Redskins play the Cowboys in Week 17, if they both win their next two (not a huge stretch judging their opponents) then the Giants are eliminated from the division unless they go 3-0 (or if the Redskins and Cowboys tie). I'm not saying it's going to happen, but when I look at the schedules it seems like the Giants have the most difficult situation even with a one game lead on both teams.
  13. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000110396/article/roger-goodell-nfl-considering-expanding-playoffs NFL thinking of expanding playoffs to 14 or 16 teams. DISLIKE!
  14. Interesting transaction history for Sandy Rosario who the Cubs just claimed off waivers from the Red Sox: July 2, 2004: Signed by the Florida Marlins as an amateur free agent. October 17, 2012: Selected off waivers by the Boston Red Sox from the Miami Marlins. November 28, 2012: Traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Oakland Athletics for a player to be named later. The Oakland Athletics sent Graham Godfrey (December 7, 2012) to the Boston Red Sox to complete the trade. December 10, 2012: Selected off waivers by the Boston Red Sox from the Oakland Athletics. December 12, 2012: Selected off waivers by the Chicago Cubs from the Boston Red Sox.

  16. This is utterly baffling. The value of this package and the one they received are at very least even, yet they were only going to give up Myers. Niese is under control long term and a good #3 while Wheeler is an extremely good pitching prospect who may have legitimate #1 upside. So there's that deal that was reportedly turned down. I think they also asked for a Dickey for Myers swap that was rejected. Anderson for Myers was rejected. Lester for Myers was rejected, too, I think. There must be something rotten about Myers that front offices aren't thrilled about. His K rate? Still, it seems the teams all value him less than the writers...
  17. Barney + Soriano + DeJesus for Francoeur and the Lexington Legends. Pay the salaries for all four big leaguers involved in the trade. I really don't care which minor league team they give us, but the hats are awesome. http://www.theclinkroom.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/WordPress-Lexington-LatestDrops-02.png
  18. Just remembered Myers and Odirizzi were the hometown stars of the Futures Game. Hahahaha.
  19. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/royals-mortgage-future-to-be-mediocre-in-2013/
  20. Yeah. I've seen a lot of "Myers strikes out too much. He can't hit big league pitching. Odirizzi is just ok. Montgomery isn't special." Those same people last week, "These guys are the backbone to our 2014-2017 success!" "Shields is a legit ace." etc.
  21. royalboard.com is surprisingly mixed. Although I think some people realize that if this trade doesn't work for them then their franchise is screwed.
  22. Even if they need to go for it now, there's just no way this is the best pitching they could get for Myers. I agree. Now that I see the rest of the trade... Wow. I just. Couldn't Dayton Moore have convinced Glass that the money saved on team control for Myers and Odirizzi and Montgomery was worth paying a FA pitcher like Dempster? I'm in shock right now.
