  1. They just beat one of the best, if not best, teams in the league 2 nights ago on the road And? This team is just as likely to get wiped out in round 1 by a team like Detroit as it is to beat a team like Cleveland. It's a long season and they are capable of beating the best when focused and rested. Tonight looks like a team coasting/tired on the road playing against a crappy team that will turn it on if they have to in the 4th to pull away. You can use this excuse when it happens just occasionally. When a team is on the verge of going 7-8 over their last 15 games, maybe they just aren't that good.

  3. I would just be totally shocked if this squad made the ECF. Yet another night getting outplayed and out hustled by a terrible team. Kobeless Lakers shooting 58.7% at half.
  4. I know it's a bit meatbally, but can we please sign Shields and try to win this year for Ernie?
  5. Only talked with him a couple times, but he always came off as a sincere, laid back and really funny guy. RIP Ernie.
  6. And everybody wanted the Cubs to get Khalil Greene? Was it Meph who had the JR Towles obsession as well?
  7. Thinking that guaranteeing a 31 year old pitcher $210 million is a bad thing = meatball logic? Sure, okay You think it's worse to pay a guy 210M over 14 years than it is to pay him 210M over 7 years. Yes, that is dumb and meatball. Well I'm convinced How many times has this been discussed? You can't possibly have missed it every time. Getting $10 today is better than getting $10 in a year. Do you understand that? You can invest that $10 if you get it today and in a year, maybe you have $10.30. Now instead of $10 making you 20-30 cents in a year, think of $10m today making you $300,000 in a year. That's the most basic way to look at this. A 1%er like ssr can explain the details of how much more money $210m is if you get it over the next 7 years compared to how much it is if it's spread over the next 14. But it's a lot. If the dollars are the same, it's always better for the team to pay more later (ignore luxury tax issues, which are't a consideration for the nats). I'll use 7% because that's kind of the standard for making investment hypotheticals 30M Annually over 7 years @ 7% =$213,710,938.32 @ 7 years Total continues to compound for 7 more years=$222,591,675.99 @ 14 years 15M annually over 14 years @ 7=$218,151,307.15 @ 14 years A $4,440,146.82 difference
  8. I'd much rather have Lake over Sweeney. Sweeney's only appeal was his ability to play CF and with Fowler and Alcantara, there is no longer a need for that.
  9. I just couldn't force myself to give up Russell for only 2 years of even a stud like Strasburg.
  10. Maybe I'm missing it, but this trade seems like an offensive upgrade in CF, a downgrade in CF defensively and a downgrade at utility infielder. I'm not so sure it made the team any better.
  11. Could a deal like that even get done with Javy as lead chip? A move like that leaves the Cubs one bat away from being a legitimate WS contender.
  12. If Scherzer does indeed go to Nationals, you would have to think the Tigers wouldn't have a choice but to extend Price. That would take one big name off the 2016 FA SP market.
  13. The Nats are going to be able to deal Zimmerman and Desmond and lose almost nothing from last year's squad. That's impressive.
  14. He was on pace to put up a 3.5fWAR season before the fluke injury which would have put him 6th.
  15. MLB Network put together their list of the top 10 shortstops in baseball and apparently Starlin has done something to really piss them off. 10)Andrelton Simmons 9)Jed Lowrie 8)Alexei Ramirez 7)Erik Aybar 6)Jordy Mercer(WTF?) 5)JJ Hardy 4)Jose Reyes 3)Ian Desmond 2)Jhonny Peralta 1)Troy Tulowitzki http://m.mlb.com/cws/video/topic/7417714/v37137719/mlb-networks-top-ten-shortstops-right-now
  16. As much of a fan of baseball as I am, the HoF means almost nothing to be me. I have zero interest in ever visiting. It's a complete failure in the only task it has, naming/honoring the best baseball players from their respective generations.
  17. Lastella is pretty much a throw in on a deal. Also, who is going to play CF for the Nats? They're trying to win this year so making a hole in CF to fill one at 2B doesn't make much sense.
  18. Hey that's great, they can be good in the regular season and then get run in the playoffs early again. Also, enough with this game shape nonsense. If it takes you half a season of games to get in "game shape", maybe you just aren't very good.
  19. Congratulations DRose, you are officially below 40% shooting on the year and a couple missed 3s from being sub 25% from 3. All this to go with a 1.56AST/TO. Hot garbage.
  20. I really hope there's truth to that Leonys Martin for Castillo rumor. Throw an extension at the 27 year old Martin and let Alcantara play the utility role he was meant for.
  21. Unfortunately you can't take much of what Theo says about Javy seriously. He obviously can't say he's disappointed or that the problem is bigger than they thought or they risk destroying his trade value. I just hope he's working on something and some results start to show up.
  22. At this point just tell him he's starting the season in AAA. Then give him a solid 6 months down there with consecutive months of success before he's brought back up.
  23. Damn Cubs execs just don't learn, do they? [expletive] scoundrels Bad word choice, switch to with about.
  24. I really don't think them talking to Drew has anything more to do with Starlin then when they talked to Zobrist. Javy is the one who needs to be real concerned at this point.
  25. Soriano was on the Cubs when the rape thing happened. Yeah you're right, I thought Sori got moved half way through 2012 not 2013.
