    Worst in the MLB in basestealing efficiency and they've got to be close to worst in the league at throwing out runners. Absolutely horrendous.

    The same reason the White Sox liked Carlos Quentin, for example. Premium prospects who underperform are sometimes fixable with new/different instruction. This would seem especially applicable in Ackley's case because 1) he was a really good prospect with great peripherals 2) he's only been with one pro organization 3) the mariners developmental prowess is...questionable 4) he has the type of approach the front office likes. It's not a slam dunk, a similar thought process is what brought Ian Stewart to Chicago, but if you're going for undervalued assets(and if the Maholm and Feldman trades are any indication, they are), Ackley is a pretty good choice as a target. For me if we're taking a significant risk on a player it has to be Hultzen. At this point I think it's about 50/50 if he ever sees the majors, but I'd rather gamble on his upside than Ackely personally.

    I like him and Gohara quite a lot. However, I don't like any of them as much as I like Dan Norris.

    I am really starting to like Sanchez less and less as the big piece in a trade. At some point he needs to actually translate his elite stuff into results. He hasn't shown any improvement and the walk rate has actually gotten worse this year. This all might be tolerable if you're putting up a Crick like K/9, but he's not even striking out 8 per 9 innings.

    So currently Valbuena is sitting with an .855OPS and after today's game, likely on pace for around a 3.8fWAR. Does Theoyer give any thought to an extension or do they just dump him after arbitration?

    I'd place a significant wager on Christian Villanueva being moved before 2015 opening day. As far as Valbuena goes, we'd never get equivalent value back. He's on pace to put up nearly 3.5fWAR and he's doing it on the cheap. I'd want the kind of prospect no one would give back for him. Someone like Jorge Alfaro or Rubby De La Rosa.

    The demand to call him up is going to get crazy in another month or two. If they wait until June 2015 people are going to be going ballistic.

    What the hell is Machado's problem this weekend? He drastically overreacts to being tagged by Josh Donaldson and causes benches to clear Saturday, and Josh Donaldson to get beaned in the same game, and now on Sunday he hits A's catcher Norris in the back of the head twice on follow through, the second time knocking him out of the game. He then proceeds to strike out and fake swing/throw the bat towards 3B.     Last year, Baez @ AA year before, Rizzo @ AAA Rizzo did it in the PCL though, which is hard to take as seriously as what Bryant is doing.

    I don't recall ever having a prospect that just day to day killed everything like Bryant does, especially at the AA level.

    Jesus, Sandberg. Not that it should matter, because it's a poor managerial move regardless, but didn't he have some sort of arm/shoulder trouble going into the year? He missed the first month of the season due to shoulder issues and has made 9 starts since then. These games include a 133 pitch outing(career high) and back to back games with 125 pitches. Sandberg also had Roberto Herandez throw 99 pitches in a start on May 9th and then come back on May 11th to try and save a game. Cliff Lee has made 10 starts this year, in 8 of those he has thrown at least 100 pitches. In 4 of them has thrown 114 or more including a 128 pitch outing on April 16th. His pitch counts over his last 7 starts. 128,113,89,106,100,114,116.
