  1. Ben Badler @BenBadler Big, big news out of Cuba: 2B Jose Miguel Fernandez has left Cuba to come to MLB. Story at Baseball America: http://bit.ly/1N4A8Jt 8:21 PM - 2 Dec 2015
  2. What about the rest of the money Cueto wants? The last I saw was he wanted 130/140
  3. If Shark is seriously getting 100M+ then just give Cueto his 130 and get this done with.
  4. I'm setting myself up for 2015 trade deadline disappointment.
  5. Just what Balitmore needed, more guys with power and a complete inability to take a walk.
  6. So after being turned down the first time on a lopsided deal, they made the 2nd offer even more lopsided and expected that to get accepted? Really?
  7. Leake can't take over a game like Samardzija can. Leake is also projected to make 5/80
  8. Are there a lot of teams looking to deal MLB-ready prospect pitchers? The Dodgers have 3 possible answers not including Urias. DeLeon,Cotton and Anderson are all likely available and just about MLB ready.
  9. Same trade I've been proposing all offseason Soler+Hammel+5M to CLE for Danny Salazar+Justus Sheffield. Hammel is owed 9M+2M buyout in 2017 while Soler is owed 3M this year. Cubs come out ahead 9M. I love me some Salazar, but doesn't he have many of the same durability concerns as Hammel? You're opening up a big hole in the OF that would have to be filled and only making the rotation marginally better. I guess I like Hammel more than pretty much everyone else. Baez goes to 3B and Bryant becomes the everyday RFer in that scenario, so there is no hole. Salazar is also cheap, under control for a long time and has a much higher ceiling than Hammel. This is a leap of faith that even I am not willing to take. What part of it seems unrealistic to you? I was extremely impressed with Baez at 3B and Bryant in RF is likely a fairly significant upgrade defensively over Soler.

  12. I really don't see how he makes sense unless he's the only pitcher being added to the roster. He's not better than Hammel or Hendricks. If our major pitching acquisition is Mike Leake I may have an aneurysm before opening day.
  13. There is almost no scenario you could give me that would make me excited about Mike Leake. [expletive] that guy.
  14. That would be a huge mistake. The NL central race is going to be much too tight a race to wait half a season before fully upgrading the rotation. He could be a believer in first half Hammel. Or he could believe it was the hamstring (right?) injury that diminished Hammel's effectiveness in the second half. Personally, I'm okay with adding one MLB starter, someone with options like Sierra and then additional depth at the upper levels of the minors. I don't see a huge need to add two pieces to the rotation right away. 2016 and 2017 are likely the best squads this team is going to have over the duration of their playoff window. Lester is only going to get older, Arrieta will only get older and possibly be gone, etc. Everything needs to be poured into this year and next. Going into 2016 without significantly improving the squad is a huge mistake.
  15. No team is going to sign Shark to a one year deal due to the loss of a draft pick. He's also another 2015 away from being a 3/36 guy.

  17. 6/130 is about the absolute maximum I could envision paying Cueto. Unless he really dislikes ARI, I don't think he stands to gain much by turning this deal down.
  18. That's a pretty reasonable contract good for Detroit. For the Cubs this seems to mean 1 of 2 things. They either had no interest in Zimmermann at all or they are dead certain that they can get a guy of 2 that are better and or cheaper. 5/110 is a lot for a guy who is 7 years off his TJS when the procedure usually only lasts 7 to 8 years. It's a pretty big gamble for Detroit.
  19. I don't' get it, even with the Zimmermann signing I don't think they're better than KC,MIN or CLE.
  20. Especially not if Contreras is involved. Ew. I don't think I understand this sentiment. Contreras is a fine prospect, but Shelby Miller is a reasonably proven commodity at a position of need, and at an ideal time. The years of control and his age are also quite desirable. I may be buying into his 2015 a bit much, but if that's the start of his ascent toward "prime," a prospect like Contreras is well worth it to me. He's not that good and primarily a 2 pitch pitcher. There are far too many pitchers available to pay the price tag for Miller.
  21. I just really hate Lackey as a person and find him underwhelming as a pitcher.
  22. Last year he put up a 3.61ERA, 3.41FIP, 3.69xFIP with a 3.3fWAR. This included a sub 2.00ERA after being traded to Pittsburgh.
  23. Stroman,Happ,Dickey,Chavez,Hutchison and Estrada. I do believe the Blue Jays are now out on Price. They just signed Happ and Estrada in FA, they picked up Dickey's option and traded for Chavez.
  24. I didn't mean to imply they'd get to 200 this offseason, but the rumor was they wanted to be closer to 200 than 300.
