Exactly. No one should mistake him for an everyday starter, but as a 4th outfielder he's very solid and worthy of being a 4th OFer on a playoff caliber team.

I don't think anyone is advocating signing him long term or anything, but it's a fun ride while it lasts.

So Met's fans think Alonso is getting 6/180 in free agency. That seems crazy to me for a 1B who is going to be turning 30 about the same time he signs his contract, He does rake, but he loses value pretty much everywhere else. Maybe my feel for contracts is slipping but that seems a lot for a guy who is more or less a DH exiting his prime. PS: while we all ponder this, enjoy Pete taking a pop fly in the face during last night's game
