  1. Underwhelming for sure, but if they add Bellinger it's okish I suppose. It really is a shame though, they had a chance to establish themselves as the clear cut power of the NL Central and instead they've chosen to ignore that opportunity.
  2. If they add Bellinger, I think they're around 87-88 wins, but there's going to be a good bit of variance with unknown quantities like Busch/Imanaga and possibly PCA.
  3. I know there really isn't a good answer, but man I feel gross going into 2024 with Wisdom/Madrigal at 3B.
  4. I absolutely hated the Horton pick the day of the draft. I was fully on team Brooks Lee with Cam Collier being my 2nd choice. The Shaw pick I was pretty OK with. I was kind of interested in Nimmala, but had nowhere near the investment I had in Brooks Lee.
  5. He's probably more a 3.5 ERA guy this year than anything close to what he was in 2023, but he should still be solid.
  6. Seeing as the general offseason chat thread is closed, I suppose this is as good a place as any. WIth Neris getting 9M, that brings them down to roughly 46M. You figure another roughly 6 million to save for in season trades at the deadline. That leaves them 40M left. Bellinger is probably 27 of that, leaving them with 13M. What do they spend it on? I kind of feel like a trade is coming because there's really no one that it makes a lot of sense to spend it on. They don't need more SP depth(Maeda/Paxton), They don't need more 1B/DH types (Belt/JDM).
  7. I'm pretty neutral on this. The contract was less than I expected him to get, but man I would rather have had Robertson for only 2M more.
  8. A DL guy, this is very much what I expected.
  9. They didn't have to do anything that extravagant. They could have added Brasier and Robertson for like 17M, which was 100% doable if they aren't going to address 3B.
  10. The Rangers also added Dave Robertson and the Dbacks retained Sewald. Meanwhile the Cubs have added a reliver who alternates between good and horrifically bad.
  11. Yes, why improve the part of the team that was the reason you missed the playoffs in the first place. Instead Jed will hope for internal improvement. It's the same stubbornness that caused him to not go out and get a reliever at the trade deadline. He may be able to create a farm, but I have severe doubts about Jed's ability to put together a team.
  12. well that was a missed opportunity
  13. The problem is that he's not very good. 2022 was a complete mirage thanks to a 91.9 LOB%. 2023 was very mediocre, 2021 was solid and 2020 was a disaster.
  14. Probably more speculation than any thing based on any evidence, but I've seen the mention of the Bears targeting Chase Young several times recently. He finally stayed healthy this year, playing in 16 games, he had 7.5 sacks between Washington and SF and while he wouldn't be cheap, he shouldn't require a monster contract and would still be a significant upgrade. With the vast majority of the talent in the 2024 draft coming on the offensive side of the ball, I could get behind a move like this.
  15. What are the realistic impact bat options at this point? Bellinger, JDM and who? Belt is a platoon guy and even JDM doesn't really make sense on this roster with Morel as DH>
  16. There's a difference between expecting them to be the best team in the NL and having expectations that they'll try and do more than sneak into the playoffs via one of the worst divisions in baseball.
  17. Some scars, a partially numb toe and some gray hair appearing in the facial fuzz, but nothing besides that. I got about as lucky as is medically possible.
  18. Because if you're going to claim you're competing for a division championship you don't go into the season needing rookies to immediately perform. I also think we saw what Seiya is cumulatively. He's clearly far better than the guy he was the first half, but I really doubt he's the guy he was in the 2nd half. I mean if he's actually the guy who after July 1st put up a .311/.372/.556 line good for a 147 wRC+ then he's an MVP candidate which would be awesome, but unlikely. While it's possible Taillon gets better, it's even more likely that Assad doesn't put up an ERA more than 1.5 runs below his xERA again.
  19. I was busy being dead, relearning to sit up, stand, walk, etc. during the Harper offseason so this one is pretty easily the slowest offseason for me, especially based on expectations going in.
  20. I'm not sure that team is even better than the 2023 Cubs. 2024 Bellinger is likely worse than 2023 Bellinger. There's a pretty significant chance that Imanaga is worse than Stroman. Belt/Busch would be hard pressed not to be an upgrade over the 2023 1B, but does it exceed the previous 2 subtractions? I'm not sure that it does. Side note, I have almost no interest in Neris for the money he is probably going to get. You could probably get Robertson+Brasier for a few extra million a year and be far better off.
  21. I know this, you cannot seriously claim you're trying to compete for a division title when 1/3 of your daily line up consists of PCA, Busch and madrigal. You have 2 guys who have no history of MLB performance and 1 guy who has a history of being, at best, a slightly below average hitter.
  22. I hate to say it, but Jed would have to pull off a minor miracle to get this team up to where it needs to be if he misses on Bellinger at this point.
  23. Not looking good. The margin for error is almost non existent now.
  24. The HoF continues to fail. Helton(54.9 fWAR) and Mauer(53.0) get in, meanwhile Andruw Jones(67.0), Chase Utley(61.6) and Gary Sheffield(62.1) fail to get in. Just another of many reasons I have no intention of ever visiting that place.
