  1. The Cubs have an ERA of 4002.5 the inning after they score. Go CUBS! (Yes, I know it's been bad luck, not poor pitching)
  2. I was listening to the final game of that series while driving down to Chicago. My dad made fun of me for being so giddy after that grand slam was hit.
  3. Damn. I guess this can be deleted, then. My bad.
  4. From this article: (I copied in the relevant text for those who don't have a subscription to BP)
  5. Cubs fans didn't like Marquis in 2008 because we had above average to excellent pitching in the other four slots. You can't expect your fifth starter to be an ace.
  6. Yes. Coming off the hand, it looks like it's coming straight for your head. The initial reaction is to back off the plate. By the time you realize it's dropping right over the plate, you can only lunge at the ball. Thus the "knee-buckling" curve ball. Now, most hitters who actually make it to the big leagues can pick up that it's going to be a curve from the delivery and release point and adjust. The traditional up and down curve ball is a slow pitch by big league standards and had a looping curve. Kerry's delivery on his curve was well-disguised, was a relatively fast pitch, and had a real tight, whip-like break. I smile everytime a hitter backs away from a Marmol slider, only for it to break right over the plate for strike 3.
  7. This is what I'm curious about. Has there been any talk or articles about whether or not Aramis will excercise his $15 million option? Would he make that much in the open market?
  8. Total bust.
  9. Lee is at the end of his contract this year, and Ramirez has a $14 million player option. Will the Cubs resign Lee, and will Ramirez exercise his option, or will both become free agents? Lee will turn 35 this year, but could still put up decent numbers for at least two more years after 2010, I'm guessing. Ramirez is younger and better than Lee (besides last year and 2005) but would he make more than his option in free agency by opting out? Both of these players would be hard to replace at their current production level, Ramirez especially. What do you guys think?
  10. http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/02/11/frank-thomas-to-retire-on-friday/ Should be a hall of famer, by far.
  11. Good. So now, not only is he not going to pitch in games involving the Cubs, but he's also not even in America anymore. We'd probably want to face him though.
  12. Well, that settles it. Mulder is awful.
  13. And they give you cash, which is just as good as money.
  14. And they wear helmets today. Darn kids! Rice never played a game without a helmet. http://nazareneblogs.org/robbie/files/2009/03/sarchasm.jpg
  15. I'm reminded by this: http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/rays_graphic.jpg

  17. What was that? http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200908085982611&c_id=atl What the hell was that? I genuinely don't understand. So they go from DP to walk and safe without a decent explanation? Wouldn't it have only been one out (caught stealing)? The count was 3-1 before the strike call.
  18. 3-1 Pittsburgh beating St. Louis, top of the 5th.
  19. Well, at least you get the chance to see Cliff Lee throw a one-hit shutout (Aaron Miles bloop single) in a 20-0 game. Oh, and Ryan Howard hits two grand slams. That's ridiculous. Howard will hit at least three grand slams.
  20. Fred needs to show our ERA the inning after we score. It's probably like 12.
  21. I feel so bad for laughing, but damn it's funny.
