  1. The Pujols injury is going to do a number on a lot of participants (unfortunately, myself included). At least I'm not looking too bad for showing some faith in Jacque Jones in group D.
  2. Good thing it's a double elimination tournament. What, an 11-0 drubbing wasn't enough? You want to come back for more?! :P Yes, but Kentucky had other ideas. :( I think you have a huge advantage tonight, being rested and Kentucky coming off of a slugfest earlier today in a must-win situation.
  3. It's hard to fault the posters. Jones had two poor seasons in a row in Minnesota as well as starting slow this year. It was justified for people to think he was through as a productive major leaguer. It's good that he's proving people wrong (at least for the time being), but you can't really blame people for writing him off. If he had good seasons the last couple of years, then maybe giving up on him after a slow start this year would have been impatient.
  4. Good thing it's a double elimination tournament.
  5. Rusch winning a game for the Cubs, Brownlie pitching a shutout (with help). The end of the world is surely at hand. :D
  6. I actually thought Marmol should have been called up to start today's game. After all, I knew the Cubs had no chance of winning with Rusch starting, so I figured Marmol deserved a chance. Waiter, I'm ready for my crow now. :D
  7. OK, here are the standings: 1. texascub (#131 nationally) 2. IMB! (#260) 3. Mark_R (#600) 4. Cubbies75 (#992) 5. NCCubbieFan (#1078) 6. sweetpeteman (#1106) 7. SouthSideRyan (#1247) 8. karenmac (#1275) If there's anybody else participating, check your results and post your national standing and I'll edit the list. I'll probably do another update at the All-Star break.
  8. The BA article compared Drabek to Josh Hamilton in terms of being a two-way prospect. Sounds like the Hamilton comparison may go beyond playing ability.
  9. That means there will be two games tomorrow featuring an Indiana school vs. a South Carolina school.
  10. He does care about football. He just cares more about marijuana. :D
  11. What an accomplishment. Contract extensions for everybody.
  12. They also sent Pinto down a couple of days ago. The former Cub pitchers on the Fish are dropping like flies.
  13. A shame about Greenberg being released. It's sad that his career seems to have been short-circuited by the beaning. I can see that psychologically it would be hard to come back from a beaning that hard. Hopefully he can get picked up by another organization and get his career back on track.
  14. Obviously that's not true, or else people wouldn't spend time discussing them.
  15. Are we talking about your HR pool, or the Cubs? Definitely not the Cubs.
  16. That's your opinion, not fact. Therefore it is NOT a moot topic; your opinion could turn out to be wrong.
  17. Does the FSL All-Star game require at least one player per team like the major league game does? If so, maybe Fuld was left off because of a need to include a player from another team. He still belongs on the team.
  18. 26 behind first place, 53 ahead of last place. Not bad.
  19. Actually they dumped him off on Texas, who then traded him to us for Koronka. I agree with your point, though; if they were willing to give him away in Spring Training, nothing about his performance with the Cubs would make them interested in trading for him now.
  20. And would Mark Cuban be involved?

    WEEK 9

I've thought that way too. Similarly, if a reliever inherits a runner on third that scores, I think the starter should be charged with 3/4 of the run and the reliever 1/4. I also think similar logic should apply to errors. If a ball drops in between two fielders because nobody takes charge, rather than credit the batter with a hit I think each fielder that could have caught the ball should be charged with 1/2 of an error.

    WEEK 9

Damn you, Dusty; removing Maddux from the game one out short of a quality start.
  23. Bob Brenly? Larry Dierker? Didn't Brenly serve as a coach under Baker in San Fran? Could be...that's why I put question marks...I wasn't sure of their coaching background. Pretty sure Dierker had zero experience though. Brenly was a Giants coach under Dusty. That's what he left WGN Radio for when he was on the radio broadcast team several years ago.
  24. Yes; they just reached an agreement. I believe the replacements are still umpiring, but the regulars should be back soon.
