Sure looks like this team has its priorities set! 2113... deal of the century? 3 year deal #-o, nothing more than 1 year please. I'd rather they call him up now even though there's a risk they'd lose him after 2112. :D
I've finally got the Cubs' injury problems figured out. O'Neal is actually a double agent. He worked for the Cardinals before coming to the Cubs, and is still a Cardinals' fan. He's taking payola from the Cardinals' organization to make sure that the Cubs are never healthy enough to compete. No, I don't actually believe that.
4 hits in his first AB? What does that mean? :? It's a joke. I think it's in reference to Dusty's repeated statements about when he came up when discussing rookies.
Got back just in time to hear the last out and the postgame comments. Then something went haywire and I had to reboot my computer. I think I'm snakebit when it comes to listening to Jaxx broadcasts (maybe this is payback for my jinxing them when they played in Carolina and got swept :D ).
Coats was sent down less than 10 days (or games-I can't remember which one it is) ago, and to bring him back up they had to put somebody on the DL. I don't think that rule applies any more since rosters have expanded. In 2002 Zambrano was sent down, then called back up just a couple of days later when rosters expanded. This was done to make room on the roster for someone coming off the DL. He didn't miss a start and didn't even report to Iowa. To me the only reason for putting someone on the DL at this point is if it's the 60-day to create a space on the 40-man roster.
I definitely think Soto needs to get a lot of time. They don't need to evaluate Blanco; they already know what they have with him. They do, however, need to see whether they can count on Soto as the backup catcher next year, and they won't find that out if Soto is glued to the pine.
I'd rather they give Dusty a little time off (like, say, forever). But since Hendry is too stupid and/or stubborn to see that a change is needed now, giving Z time off is the next best thing.
That's good news. Even still, if he felt it before the game, someone needs to be held accountable for inexcusably pitching him today (unless Z himself said nothing about it because he wanted to pitch).
Seriously, though, you're absolutely right, but there is no one at any level of this organization that would take action. Hendry won't fire Dusty, and MacPhail won't fire either of them. And the Trib won't fire MacPhail.
Actually, Zambrano has tremendously cut down on his walks lately (4 total in his last 3 games). If that trend continues a perfect game isn't out of the question for him.
Congrats to Sean and also the other minor leaguers who had good years and received consideration for the award. Hopefully next year we'll get even more people voting.
