  1. A couple of years ago, when Arod was considered the best player in the game, I'd probably say no. Now that he's no longer a shortstop and Pujols is the best in the game I'd probably do it.
  2. I'll never understand how Hendry could justify going into 2005 with the OF he had, which pretty much guaranteed Burnitz would get a ton of playing time. He was, uh, hamstrung by the sosa situation. Which is why we had to have Burnitz instead of Beltran. Or something like that. Yeah but we had this dude named Matt Murton who could have used some more starts but Dusty just had to play Burnie damn near every day. It was like Burnie was some indispensable superstar and not a washed up geezer who wasn't going to be on the team the next season. No way did he need or deserve to get 155 starts. Wasn't this the year where we were all pleading for DuBois? Yes it was. Murton was in the minors for most of the season in 2005.
  3. Not for the past few years. When they implemented the pod system for the first two rounds, they did away with tying them to a specific region. The reason for that is so that as many teams as possible play close to home for the first two rounds regardless of what region they're in.

  5. I'll join, since you can have up to five different brackets this year. In one of my brackets I have Albany over Arizona for the championship (I decided it would be fun to see how I do automatically picking the first team alphabetically for every game :D ). That's not in one of the NSBB groups.
  6. Neither do I, and I don't consider 10 over 7 to be a major upset.
  7. If I recall, Cherry had TJS a couple of years ago. After all of the Cubs' pitching prospects that seemed to have been ruined by injury (Brownlie, Hagerty, Blasko), it's nice to see one making a successful comeback.
  8. The Rockies should have signed him a couple of years ago, when they still had the other Javier Lopez. They could have had a battery of Javier Lopez and Javier Lopez.
  9. Maybe he just forgot about the early start to daylight savings time this year and lost an hour of sleep. :D
  10. That would be me. So far he's my only injured player, but he'll be helping my DL all year. :D
  11. It's probably a good idea to start a new thread for the NCAA tournament, since the existing college basketball thread has grown into a monster. I'm starting it now so people can talk about it at any time.
  12. It's true. And oddly enough, Holdzkom gave up 3 HRs in 20.1 AFL innings this past fall. Making up for lost time. :D
  13. For my serious brackets (the NSBB ones) i picked some upsets for one and went with the highest seeded teams all the way through for the other. That way I can see if I do better than the committee. :D
  14. In one of my brackets (not either of the NSBB ones) I have Albany over Arizona for the championship. Since you can have five brackets I decided just for fun to enter one where I pick the first team alphabetically to win each game. I may need to edit that one based on the results of the play-in game, because Florida A & M comes before Kansas alphabetically, but Niagara comes after.
  15. I'm familiar with that name. He was previously head coach at Umass, replacing John Calipari when he left.
  16. I'm in, using my NSBB name.
  17. Borbon's injury may make him slip into the 2nd or even 3rd round. Both he and Arencibia have been injured, causing Tennessee to struggle badly, and likely causing a drop for all 3 of UT's 1st round hopefuls (Adkins, Borbon, and Arencibia) Is Borbon any relation to the Pdero Borbons? If so, he has some good bloodlines.
  18. The front page story from today's Raleigh, NC paper is about Hamilton.
  19. Bubble teams everywhere are breathing a collective sigh of relief.
  20. For purely selfish reasons I too would like to see him start at Tennessee. That way I could watch him pitch when Tennessee plays at Carolina (which they do a lot this year).
  21. Actually, I think you can pencil him in. After all, pencil can be erased. Writing him in ink, however, that's another story. :D
  22. Oh yes, the Giles brothers, Brain and Nobrain.
  23. Prior was given a multi-year contract. Baseball rules specify that multi-year contracts must be at the major league level; there are no multi-year minor league contracts. And I believe that signing someone to a major league contract requires them to be placed on the 40-man roster.
