    Relative to the talent he had I actually think he did better. I really think he was given a raw deal when he was fired after 1999. It wasn't his fault that Wood missed the year because of TJS.

    I'm really liking that 125 isod from Ronny where the crap was that all last year Last year he was suffering from a severe case of Dustyitis, which carried over. Maybe Dr. Joshua can successfully cure him of it. I hold out some hope for him because he did look good in his 2005 callup.

    Yep; Ken was a perennial All-Star (6 years in a row at one point) and I believe has at least gotten some Hall of Fame consideration. Clete was never an All-Star. They actually played against each other in the 1964 World Series.

    I believe it's OK as long as the player still has minor league eligibility remaining. I've done that a couple of times (although not this year).

    It's against NSBB policy to post entire articles due to copyright issues (especially one like this which comes from premium pay content). It's OK to post brief excerpts from articles and/or a link to the web site with the article.

    Why? Last time I checked the Yankees weren't a rival of the Cubs... Look at his avatar. He may have turned Red Sox fan, and the Yankees are certainly their rivals. :D

    I'm not sure I'd say he was overrated; back in those days good fielding, poor hitting infielders were considered highly acceptable. Mark Belanger, Eddie Brinkman, and Aurelio Rodriguez are a few that come to mind from that era who were considered good players despite having even lower career averages.

    Even though he spent most of his career with the Yankees I remember him as a Brave, because that's who he played with when I started following baseball in 1969. I remember him as a good field, no hit (career average barely over .240) third baseman. He was the youngest of three Boyer brothers who all played in the major leagues (Ken and Cloyd were the others). Interestingly Cloyd was the oldest of the three yet he's the only one still alive (Ken died over 20 years ago).

    I'm pretty sure Barrett was going to the Cubs all along in that trade, just that the A's had something that Montreal wanted and the Cubs had something the A's wanted, so it was just a roundabout way to get Barrett, IIRC Right, Barrett was an Athletic for a matter of hours. For all practical purposes the Cubs traded Demian Miller for Barrett. Officially they may have been two separate trades with minor leaguers and/or PTBNL involved, but I think Miller for Barrett was the gist of it.

    If he were to return to pre-Cubs DLee, you better hope he's traded. That was unimpressive second rate production for a first baseman. I might be mistaken wasn't he a .280 25-30hrs and 90ish RBI guy, I could be wrong, but thats not a second rate production first baseman. 1st base isnt a very deep position and thats those are above average numbers. Until 2003 it was more like 70--85 RBI, and a couple of years he was closer to .270 than .280. His first couple of years he was outright bad (.233 in 1998, .206 in 1999).

    I think it was mainly to make room for Pie. Reports that Floyd and Murton were also DL candidates suggest that the main purpose of the move was to bring Pie up. Someone had to go on the DL to make room for him and they decided on Ward. I think all three of them really are banged up, but none of them bad enough to really need to go on the DL. Of course, unless somebody (hopefully Jones) is traded by then, another decision will need to be made when Ward is eligible to come off the DL. This gives Hendry a 25 day window to trade Jones- 15 from the DL and 10 from the DFA. Yes it would, provided the Cubs are willing to release him or send him down if they're unable to trade him. I believe that if you DFA a player you're required to do one of the three; I don't think they could change their mind and put him back on the major league roster.

    I would, assuming that Tex can play decent (at least close to average) corner outfield. That's contingent upon being confident of re-signing Tex when he becomes a free agent.

    It is frustrating to be second best for the week and still lose, but it was a good, back and forth match all week long. I blame the stupid manager who made the boneheaded decision to start Jennings over Marshall; that made the difference. That manager needs to be fired. :lol:
