  1. My vote's for sale to the highest bidder; I'm shameless. :D
  2. Today, according to this press release from the Smokies' web site. At the same time, pitcher Greg Reinhard has been sent from Tennessee to Daytona.
  3. The interview has already taken place (last week, when the Smokies were playing at West Tenn). Chris just hasn't had the time to get the responses posted yet.
  4. The interview was actually conducted last weekend; Chris just hasn't had time to get the responses posted yet.
  5. Supposedly Guzman to the DL. The 60 day? They'd need to move someone off the 40 man by either putting them on the 60 day or optioning them off/DFA someone or make a trade. I think Miller to the 60-day would be the obvious move. Blanco to the 60-day might also be a possibility depending on the severity of his injury.
  6. Nice pitching day for me. A good start from Moyer, and all three of my relievers pitch, combining for just over 25 points. Dishmans have Vargas (5 points) in the lineup and Hirsh (16.5 points) on the bench. As a result I lead by over 30, plus I have a one pitching start advantage (6 to 5) remaining. The Dishmans have their work cut out for them.
  7. This move doesn't bother me like it seems to bother many others. I'm guessing he's just going to be up for a couple of weeks, so it's not going to really stunt his development. It will give him a taste of life in the major leagues so that when he comes back up again later (whether it's a September call-up this year or sometime next year) he will have already gone through the jitters players frequently go through the first time up. As far as concerns about arbitration or free agency clocks starting, I think that's a moot point. He certainly will not be up enough for this season to count toward free agency (even if he were to stay up the rest of the year, which I don't expect), and unless he does stay up the rest of the year there's no way he'd qualify as a super-two that would speed up his arbitration eligibility (I'm not sure he'd qualify even if he were up for the rest of the year). The only thing that will start ticking is the option clock, since sending him back down would use his first option. I think it's good he's getting some major league exposure.
  8. What Bruce said was that Eyre isn't being DFA'd. He could still be placed on the DL.
  9. If anything's been officially announced yet I'm sure they'll mention it anyway.
  10. I think Miller to the 60-day is more likely. Yea but I think hes suggesting that as to how Gallagher is getting on the 25 man. No, because moving Blanco from the 15-day to the 60-day DL would not clear a space on the 25-man roster.
  11. I think Miller to the 60-day is more likely. how about Miller to the "never-ever-ever-pitch-for-the-cubs-again" list Even better.
  12. I have also thought of that possibility. I was gonna mention that perhaps that Sean was just being called up just to get the feel of how MLB is, and use that experience while he goes back to Iowa, and whatever Sean needs to work on, he'll do that when he goes back to Iowa, whenever someone comes off the DL. Pie seems to have benefitted from that approach as well.
  13. I wonder if he's just being called up for a short time now to give him a taste of life in the show. Marshall, Hill, Guzman, and Marmol all struggled in their first callups (Hill during his second as well), but have pitched much better after going back down for some more seasoning. Maybe the plan is for him to be up for a couple weeks while someone else goes on the DL so that when he comes back up for good he'll already have some major league experience under his belt. Just a thought.
  14. that's officially my guess. me too... i forgot that it was lilly and not Z tonight. Him pitching in Zambrano's spot makes a lot of sense; makes one start and then goes back down. That still doesn't make sense, because tomorrow he'd still be pitching in Milwaukee, yet his father is going to Atlanta. but his father isn't the one pitching. he said sean was going to milwaukee. though you'd think they would have told sean if he was starting tomorrow. True, his father isn't the one pitching, but I can't see him missing his son's first major league appearance. Maybe meeting the team in Milwaukee tomorrow is just to get him acclimated and that he'll then travel with the team to Atlanta.

  16. Don't forget nitwits. :D
  17. Four days ago. His next scheduled start for Tennessee would have been tomorrow, which is also Zambrano's next scheduled start for the Cubs. Coincidence or not remains to be seen.
  18. Congratulations are definitely in order; I look forward to watching him pitch as a major leaguer. Any word on whether he'll be a starter or in the bullpen?
  19. yeah, i won't bitch about the cubs wasting millions on samardzija and other assorted major league players, but then all of a sudden having to obey slot money the year that a big piece to the puzzle is available in the draft. So who are you bitching at? I have no idea. Just bitching in general. It still seems ridiculous to me that the Cubs have to be handcuffed by money during this draft, when the actual budget for a draft is such a small part of the overall spending on the team. It seems to me that as long as the Trib owns the Cubs, they should operate like a large market team, and the next person coming in knows that they're buying a large market team. Every team is handcuffed by slotted amounts and each team goes beyond it at various times, MLB does frown upon it. I'm sure the Cubs heard about it from Selig. MLB may frown upon it, but those slot figures are purely recommendations and completely unenforceable. If MLB tried to hold teams to the slot figures without it being collectively bargained through MLBPA, they'd be in court on collusion charges (again) in no time. And not just in court, but almost guaranteed to lose.
  20. way to do your homework, Cubs  “It was honestly the darkest point in my life,” Clanton says, his voice filled with emotion, cracking in spots. “Jim Hendry once quoted to me, ‘This [organization] is not a democracy. It is a dictatorship. You shut the f--k up.’ Not only is this f*cked up, but could anyone else picture Hendry spitting food out of his mouth while he says this? I'm far from a Hendry fan, but I can't believe he said that. I think Clanton's high school incident erases any credibility his story may have otherwise had.
  21. Rusch Rusch Rusch Rusch Rusch Rusch Rusch Word sensor at work.
  22. That statement applies to me last week relating to Marshall. If I had I would have won.
  23. They also have more teams than any other division, so they SHOULD have the most wins. The fact that they have the most teams, but only the second most wins, says that they ARE bad.
