  1. You're in the playoffs as of right now! Which is exactly why I traded Webb to you rather than him; I can't help him get even better since I'm trying to overtake him. :D well, if your goal is to win it all, making tim better isn't helping your cause either. My first goal is to make the playoffs, since I haven't come within sniffing distance in previous years. If I were two-time defending champions I wouldn't be satisfied with just making the playoffs, but being among the bottom three teams in the league in both previous seasons results in a different perspective and expectations.

  3. Your user name has new meaning now. :D
  4. But that's because Soriano is excited that his buddy Pie is in the majors, so yes, Pie being up really is the cause of the winning.
  5. Yogi, is that you? :D
  6. Baseball punishments suck. What sucks isn't that he can still play in the All-Star Game. What sucks is that the only effect of a five-game suspension is that he'll have to pitch the second game back after the All-Star break rather than the first; being pushed back one day, as opposed to actually missing a start, is getting off free. If the All-Star Game were included as you seem to want then he'd only miss 4 regular season games, which would merely be the games he'd be missing between starts anyway.
  7. You did. It was posted here a week or so ago. I believe Soriano said he would participate if asked; I don't recall reading that he actually was asked.
  8. Yep, no doubt! The worst pitcher in the majors 20 years ago was some bum named Greg Maddux- I wonder what ever happened to him?!? Probably selling shoes in Chicago with Al Bundy. Or how about the player that hit .196 as a rookie? Yeah, that Mike Schmidt guy sure turned out to be worthless.
  9. Maybe this game gives the Cubs some hope for him. It's not like he's blocking anybody else.
  10. I remember that well. Specifically, they lost 8 in a row, then immediately turned it around and won 12 in a row. I don't recall any other team having such a long winning streak immediately on the heels of such a long losing streak without even a single game between the streaks. If I really strain my memory, I want to say that the streak was snapped when a player reached over the wall (not a jump, it was a very short wall) to take back a Sosa homer that would have saved the game for the Cubs with two outs in the ninth. I don't recall that detail, but it could be. The Cubs lost 4-2 to the Brewers to end the streak.

  12. Bad Marquis isn't really due until next year. He usually does well his first year with a new team and that trend seems to be continuing this year.
  13. This is pure BS. With the days off for the All-Star break the Padres can reorder the rotation since everyone will be rested, and the only "punishment" Young gets is that he'll have to start the second game back instead of the first. And if he pitches in the game he might have been moved back to the second game after the break anyway. Basically he got off free. Given this MLB MUST reduce Lee's suspension to no more than three games. Personally, I think that a player shouldn't have the right to withdraw an appeal and start serving the suspension at his convenience. If a player appeals it should be mandatory that it go to a hearing, and MLB should be able to decide when the suspension starts after an appeal to ensure that the suspension is actually meaningful. What a joke this is.
  14. It stays open until Banedon takes the lead and then locks it. :D
  15. Welcome to the forum! He's actually been a member since 2004, even though this is only his second post.
  16. He's also considering skipping the All-Star Game to rest.
  17. I edited your original post and changed the poll length from 2 to 3 days (I didn't see a way to just add a few hours).
  18. It probably is, since MiLB.com shows that he was drafted by the Cardinals in 2001 (and was still with the Cardinals' organization earlier this year). It looks like he can hit home runs but very little else. Last year in AAA he hit 21 home runs but had a .215 batting average. Earlier this year in AAA he had 5 home runs in just over 100 ABs but was south of the Mendoza line (.162). I suspect the Cardinals' organization gave up and released him.
  19. I'm hoping that too, but I think it's now more likely that he will since they need an injury replacement for John Smoltz in addition to the winner of the fan voting.
  20. I checked Iowa's game notes from yesterday to see if there was any mention of Sean, but there was none. It didn't even mention the change in starting pitchers; it just read as if Wells had been scheduled all along.
  21. According to the Iowa Cubs website the Cubs signed John Nelson and Michael Nannini as free agents and assigned them to Iowa. This is Nannini's secong go-round in the Cubs' organization; he was acquired from Houston as a PTBNL from the Flash Gordon trade and was then traded to Florida as part of the Derrek Lee trade.
  22. I've seen teams sometimes have a businessman's special daytime game during the middle of the week. I think Wednesday is the day that sometimes happens, but with Wednesday being a holiday this week maybe Kane County decided to move it back a day so they could have their fireworks after the game yesterday.
  23. I think he could pitch an inning in the All-Star Game and still start Friday. His inning could take the place of his normal throwing between starts.
  24. Nice 4th of July for me, mainly thanks to Washburn and Wells. I now lead by 9 plus have a 3-2 remaining pitching start advantage. \:D/ (But I'm not counting my chickens yet.)
  25. Based on his father's post (especially the use of the lol icon) I'd assume it's a callup rather than a trade.
