  1. I must have missed something? :-s There was already a thread in the Minor League forum (Non-Premium) about a similar article, and a poster named cubbette14 posted a tirade. IMB! was mocking that tirade by posting it here.
  2. The same comment could apply to Baylor.
  3. No, don't release Howry. Just don't use him three days in a row.
  4. They were actually below .500 (51-52) as late as July 26.
  5. They most certainly did NOT have to put Dempster on the DL. They could have simply cancelled or postponed Petrick's callup, or they could have sent Pagan down. Putting Dempster on the DL (unless it really is necessary because of the nature of the injury) gets the Cubs nowhere, because they'd still be at 11 pitchers and need to go through all this again tomorrow. There are definitely other options, so if Dempster really is placed on the DL it's because he's injured bad enough to miss that much time, not because of the botched trade.
  6. Sorry. Now we're going to have to put Dempster on the DL even though I'm just about positive he doesn't need it. They don't have to; they could just wait to officially call up Petrick. If they put Dempster on the DL then they still need to make a move because they'd only be at 11 pitchers, and Lou has pretty much made it clear they're going to have 12 pitchers come hell or high water. If Dempster really is injured that bad fine, but otherwise you don't go without your closer for 15 days because of a premature callup before a botched trade.
  7. No, it's the unrelated conversation (people taking up pages and pages posting pictures, even after a moderator asked them to stop) that turned this thread into a mess. If it had stayed on topic it would have been much easier to keep up with.
  8. Raisin still leading despite posting that Theriot got sent down.
  9. if he cant pitch tomorrow they might have to put him on the DL. Just to bring up a live arm. Definitely not. They can't afford to be without Dempster 15 days just to create a roster spot now. If a reliever were to go on the DL just to create a spot it would be Eyre. It wouldn't have to be 15 days. It could be back-dated until the last game he pitched. If I were awake when I posted I would have realized that. :D

  11. Wrong, wrong, and wrong.
  12. Good news. Hopefully we can get a decent prospect for him. Some how I don't think that report will end up being accurate, unfortunately. Actually, since he said a 50-50 chance of a trade, it's a 100% guaranteed accurate statement. The statement said that the Cubs either will or won't make a trade. :D
  13. My match with Juan is also going down to the wire; at the moment I lead by 0.05 points. I need Sampson to not allow Texas any more runs.
  14. I'll always remember his 1998 season and his time staying in his camper while pitching at Iowa. He definitely died too young.
  15. I think it would make more sense to run waivers on Sunday night. That way they would take effect for the beginning of the new week and wouldn't result in any issues. There could still be issues relating to picking up free agents that ave cleared waivers, since that can be done at any time.
  16. I frequently see college students use loose instead of lose on some of the writing assignments I give. I always point it out, along with it's vs. its, affect vs. effect, and manager vs. manger.
  17. Agreed. He's going to have his ups and downs for awhile, and he's currently down, but he has shown the ability to hit major league pitching. You have to accept growing pains from youngsters.
  18. Not just that, a failed Cubs wasteland. Jennings, Alexander, Williams, Van Buren, and Restovich. Jennings is the only one I don't recall if actually played at the major league level with the Cubs, but he was once a highly touted outfield prospect in the system.
  19. Well, crap. :( The player is always the last to know. :D
  20. I think Griffey has slightly more clout with the Reds than Barrett had with the Cubs. :D
  21. http://www.idahostatesman.com/sports/story/90180.html If that were true Vitters would have been signed (too bad it isn't). One must keep in mind this is the same paper that mentioned Kyler Wright.
  22. The Statesman doesn't have the wright stuff. :D
  23. Correction: His talents have been lost, period. don't you need to have some in order to lose it? Good point.
  24. ANOha. The casiNO in ReNO.
