  1. That may have been a good idea for their protection. :D
  2. It was scheduled to last until 7:00 (Central time), but the game ended early so the special started earlier than scheduled. It lasted about the scheduled amount of time, just starting and ending early.

  4. With you 100%. That's why I was originally hoping they'd clinch today (I knew the Cubs game would end before the Brewers last night because of the time zone difference). At least they didn't back in by clinching despite a loss, and they were able to immediately celebrate clinching at least a tie. Now that it's happened I'm glad it worked out the way it did and we don't need to feel any anxiety about today's games.
  5. I grew up a Cub fan and have been following them since 1969. We lived about an hour north of Chicago at the time. My father was never a sports fan, but my grandfather (on my mother's side) was. Whenever we visited him in Indiana we watched Cub games on WGN, and I eventually started watching the games at home immediately after returning home from school. I got hooked enough that I got a transistor radio with earplug so I could listen to the radio broadcasts of the west coast games when I wa supposed to be sleeping. The gool old days with Jack and various partners (originally Lloyd Pettit) on TV and Vince and Lou on the radio.
  6. Yep. And just by pure coincidence I'm sure, so is Bud $elig.
  7. You might check the listings for your cable company on tvguide.com or your onscreen program guide (if you have one). If not you may just need to turn on the game and see what one it is.
  8. damned if they didn't try though They tried their best (especially against Florida), but the Brewers wouldn't cooperate. :D

  10. Um, Gale Sayers was a Bears' running back. It was either Gail Fischer or Kerry Sayers.
  11. Technically tonight was part of the weekend. :D
  12. 100%. \:D/

  14. This thread's annual journey to the FAQ forum for winter hibernation has been delayed. :D
  15. Where's the "they won't blow it" option? :D
  16. And the final results are in. Thanks to tonight's shutout he finishes at 3.95.
  17. Since that's his role anyway I'll take that.
  18. Of course, if all this happens the Cubs won't know their playoff destination and opponent until the night before the start of the series. At least they'd be much better rested than their opponent, though.
  19. I think I was worrying over nothing concerning the WGN telecast. I thought Andy's post that started me going was a new announcement about a start time change that was just announced. However, it was just reiterating the information that Len and Bob had been mentioning all week. And they did clearly say that the game would be on both WGN and Fox. There's no doubt in my mind about it now.
  20. I'm sure that's how it would work, since the division champions need to be determined first in order to know who the wildcard contenders are.
  21. You're just a Mark Peel wannabe. They don't answer your questions when the real deal is participating. :D
  22. For those of us who would have survived long enough to actually make it into surgery, that is.
  23. The same would be true if they both lose tonight, but I'd prefer winning. I'm actually hoping for that scenerio, because not only would the players be able to properly celebrate, but we'll be able to see all the postgame coverage on WGN (I'm sure there would be an extended 10th Inning show if they clinch tomorrow).
  24. I think it's earlier than that. For this year I believe we had until Valentine's Day. I'm not sure why the deadline was moved up so much, but I don't like it. It doesn't give much time for making decisions and working out trades following the end of the season. I want to be able to spend October thinking more about the Cubs in postseason rather than Roadkill for next year. I'd also like to be able to see what happens over the winter (with respect to MLB trades and free agent signings); that could easily affect our decisions since they can have an impact on who will and will not be MLB starters next year.
