For me it's baseball, pro football, college football, and college basketball, in that order. My interets in college football is higher than usual this year since all three teams I root for (Ball State, Indiana, and Kentucky) could be bowl bound.

I just finished watching the news and, unless I missed it at the beginning, they had nothing. The telecast was at noon Central time. I meant that I recorded it during the day and watched it at night.

Playoff Game Times/Schedule (Times Announced)

Boo about the weeknight schedule. I'm on Eastern time, which means a 10:00 start. Going to bed after 1:00 A.M. when I need to get up early the next morning = not good. Oh well, I'll just have to take a nap in the afternoon or earlier in the evening (maybe the early games will put me to sleep). -
I was able to record the WGN telecast on my DVR and watch it tonight. I thought it was interesting overall. I agree with the sentiment of having another one in a few weeks. :D

Theoretically the game could also affect the tie-breaker for the predictions contest, but since Barrett isn't in the starting lineup he'd probably have at most an at-bat or two (if he plays at all), so the effect would be minimal.

The suspense is killing me! That's a legitimate question about tonight's game that needs to be settled, however. Apparently the game does count toward the players' individual statistics. Some fantasy providers (e.g. CBS Sportsline) are counting the game, others (e.g. Yahoo) are not.

I thought he wanted to finish his career as a Cub since he grew up in the Chicago area. Maybe his father's death changed his mind about that. -

This is a typo, isn't it? No it isn't. The NL slugging average this year was .422 and the AL was .423. Bynum's was .448 (and .452 for his career). -
Now that Juan's back, is there a reason that the deadline was moved back up to Halloween? It was Valentine's Day this year, and personally I thought that worked better because it gave people longer to work out trades and see what happens during the MLB off-season. I know that my time in October will be limited, given work during the week, a couple of weekends I'll be away on travel, and focusing on the Cubs in post-season. With the scheduling change the World Series may not even be over by Halloween. If Valentine's Day is too late, would there at least be a possibility of moving it back until around Thanksgiving or Christmas?

Combining the last two weeks is what we always used to do (by counting the week of the All-Star break and starting the playoffs a week earlier) and it's done that way in the Yahoo leagues. You have the same issue in fantasy football leagues if the championship is decided in the last week of the regular season when NFL teams that have their playoff fate already decided frequently rest regulars (Manning with the Colts is a good example). I'm commissioner of a couple of Yahoo football leagues and set it up for the playoffs to end with the next-to-last week of the NFL season and not count the last week at all. That would be my preference here; end the season while most teams are still playing their regulars, then enjoy the MLB stretch drive without having to think about fantasy at the same time (especially if it's like this year when the Cubs were involved). Of course, until I actually make the playoffs it's really a moot point with me. :x

The 163rd game doesn't count toward the standings, but according to this article the statistics do count. I do know that for fantasy leagues Yahoo is not counting the game but CBS Sportsline is. As far as the predictions contest is concerned, the only effect it could have is on Barrett's final OPS for the tie-breaker. It has no effect on the Cubs-related questions.

Laura and I have both been scoring some of the predictions contest entries (I've been working from the beginning forward and she's been working from the end backwards). It takes awhile to do these, especially considering we all have full-time jobs that have to be a higher priority. Once we're finished we'll suggest that everybody calculate their own score to confirm the results we've come up with (after all, we're human and capable of making mistakes).

I don't think tonight's game should count. It doesn't count toward the regular season standings in MLB (although it used to).

When was the last time Kentucky was better than Florida at basektball? :? A hell of a lot more recently than football. It's really just been the past couple of years Florida was this good in basketball.

Marquis is not a bum. He's an inconsistent pitcher who's had some excellent starts and some stinkers. He's not at all bad as a #4 or #5 starter, which is what he was signed to be. I definitely think a case can be made for leaving him off the postseason roster, but calling him a bum is way overboard. -

That would have to be the case, because until the field is set it won't even be known that the Cubs play Arizona in the first place. If the East runner-up wins the wild card then the Cubs would play the East champion. Theoretically if SD, Mets and Phillies all lose and the Rockies win then the Mets and Phillies would have a 1 game playoff for the East title and the Rockies and Padres for the wild card. In that case the Cubs would be locked in to the AZ matchup no matter what the outcome of the one game playoffs. That's true. I was thinking of the Phillies and Mets both winning, in which case the loser of the divisional tie-breaker would also be in the wild card mix.

I would guess that the Sean being referred to is Gallagher, not Marshall... The fact it was Mr. Gallagher posting about it might be a hint. :D
