  1. They probably wanted him gone but to save face wanted it to come out as his decision. That really isn't all that uncommon.
  2. They were 16-22 and in 4th place when Torborg was fired. They were 75-49 the rest of the way under McKeon.
  3. I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that they had hired the White Sox groundskeeper to do the job (he previously did Fenway among others). I was under the assumption that he was going to work on the field this winter, but haven't heard anything since. that's what i thought too .. at least that's what the word was after the concert (police? dmb?) reportedly tore up the field. It was the cops. :D
  4. tell that to the jury...(the mods) Remember, though, it's the jury that voted to grant you parole. :D
  5. Some specified number of days following the end of the World Series. I don't recall the specific number of days, but I don't think it's much longer than a week.
  6. Raisin, hes not leaving, he will be back to do Smokies games next year according to Muskat. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071016&content_id=2269463&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc The scout.com article Raisin posted says the same thing.
  7. How about providing a link? The only trade rumor for Tejada that site has was back on Aug. 6, and there was no mention of the Cubs.
  8. There was a Pro Bowl NFL defensive lineman in the 1970s named Coy Bacon. He started his career with the Rams (part of the Fearsome Foresome) and later played with several other teams.
  9. They were also both the hottest teams in the league in the later part of the season.
  10. Fleita's sounds like a promotion to me; I think the new title implies overseeing the scouting and drafting as well as the development side. O'Neal's sounds to me like just a fancier title.
  11. There is a forum for the moderators. It's hidden, but not a secret. There have also been forums set up for fantasy leagues, and only members of the leagues have access to those forums. It's been this way for quite some time now.
  12. The Survival Football contest has ended; MPC was the last participant remaining. Because there's still well over half the season remaining I've reset it and a brand new contest begins this week. Since this is a completely new contest people that missed out on signing up originally can join now. If you signed up for the original one you don't need to do so again. If anybody new wants to join the group ID is 15599 and the password is WCFB.
  13. Darn; there goes the 2008 season.
  14. I don't think Cecil Fielder would help the Cubs. Maybe 15 years ago he would have. Prince Fielder, on the other hand..... :D
  15. That report has been debunked numerous times. It wasn't the commissioner vetoing the trade and it wasn't Zell. It was Hendry finally coming to his senses and realizing that the return wasn't worth it for them to pay as much of Jones' salary as the Marlins were asking for.
  16. Maybe the Cubs can trade Jones and Blanco to the Reds.
  17. Sign me up for that plan.
  18. I remember that (you did that twice, if I recall). I think you're the only person to actually ask to be banned. :D
  19. The NL can compete (they have many years since the DH started). However, I do think that, in the age of interleague play, the leagues do need to play under the same rules. To not do so is like having different rules in the NFC vs. AFC in football.
  20. The last Cubs manager to complete an entire season with another team was Jim Marshall who managed the Athletics for ONE season in 1979. You have to go back to Bob Scheffing, who managed us in 1959, to find a manager who managed at least two full seasons after his stint with the Cubs (Detroit '61, '62). Leo Durocher managed Houston for one plus season. He finished 1972 as Astros manager (after resigning from the Cubs earlier that season) and then managed the Astros for all of 1973. It's a rare case of a manager managing two different teams during the same season.
  21. Just like many of us (myself included at the time) felt when he was hired as Cubs' manager.
