  1. I've edited the title in the thread in light of more recent comments that Zell is considering selling naming rights, but it's not a given.
  2. They'd rather not take the PR hit and risk losing him to the Penal League halfway through the season. Maybe they could trade him to the California Penal League for Wild Thing. :D
  3. Make them throw in a prospect say...a Scott Sizemore, or a Matt Joyce, then I would. But trading a young, cheap valueable arm for a free agent to be EXPENSIVE SS is NOT an ideal trade, IMO. So again, if Detroit is willing to throw in a solid prospect with Renteria, then yeah I would Marmol for Renteria/prospect. But the first goal, should be to trade Dempster before considering moving Marmol. Marmol is a reliever. Renteria fills a massive gaping hole. It's a no-brainer. Renteria making $9 mill in 2008, with a $11 mill club option for 2009 Marmol making well prolly less then $400k. You're right, it's a no brainer. No deal. I much rather rather wait for a player like Khalil Greene, or even move Marmol for Greene, then Marmol for Renteria. who cares? there's no salary cap, so it's a non-issue There's no cap, but Hendry has a budget, so it IS an issue. He doesn't have a blank check.
  4. I don't why he moaned about the horses and then he goes and gets the same ones 2 years later. God, it's so much better being on this side of the fence regarding Dusty. I can not wait to see how he handles Dunn when he watches the 3 strike go by time and time again. Or ball 4, for that matter. Cause it's called hitting, not walking. Plus Dunn's a slow dude. He's the typical base clogger. That's because he has too many movable parts.
  5. Can Lahey be traded? He can, but the team trading for him would have to keep him on the 25-man roster all year just like the Cubs would or else lose him back to his original team (Toronto, if I recall correctly). Remember, just last year the Cubs picked Josh Hamilton in the Rule 5 draft, then traded him to Cincinnati.
  6. He's even more a North Carolina guy, born in Durham and completing his college baseball career at UNC after transferring from USC.
  7. This seems to be Back to the Future. Moose leaves the Bears and returns to Carolina, Griese is traded back to Tampa Bay, and now Booker returns to the Bears. Can the return of the A-Train be too far behind? (He's a free agent; he was recently released.)
  8. My first memories were the 1-13 team in 1969 (when they couldn't even win a coin flip for Terry Bradshaw); it was nearly a decade before they even had a winning season and made the playoffs. It was 15 years after I started following the Bears before they won a division championship (exactly the same as with the Cubs). So we definitely have different perspectives. If I was spoiled by a championship right off the bat I'd probably have higher expectations about what can be considered successful too.
  9. They didn't WIN it, but they did MAKE it. Better to play in the Super Bowl and lose than not play in it at all. By your criteria there would be 31 failures out of 32 teams every year.
  10. A roto league is where you compete against all teams simultaneously. Generally they work like this (I'll use a 16-team league as an example): Your scoring in each category is based on your standing for a week relative to the rest of the league. For home runs, as an example, the team in the league with the most home runs for the week gets 16 points and the team with the fewest gets 1 point. Same across the other categories. Standings are based on your total points across all categories, not win-loss record against other teams. If you have 16 teams and 10 categories the most points you can get in a week is 160 and the fewest is 10.
  11. Replace 2006 with 2005 and you'd be right. The 2006 Bears played in the Super Bowl; I don't recall the 2007 Packers doing that. The 2005 Bears and 2007 Packers both lost before the Super Bowl, so they might be comparable.
  12. Griese back to Tampa Bay is now official. Undisclosed draft pick in return.
  13. Oops, yes it is. I knew I used NSBB (capitalized), but that was for the group name, not the password.
  14. Thats a bit of a knee jerk reaction if you ask me. I agree, but as a Bears fan I'll happily take his retirement for any reason.
  15. Favre's retirement changes everything. Angelo MUST take advantage of the opportunity to recapture the division.
  16. Yahoo has begun sign-up for its NCAA pick'em contest, so I started an NSBB group. Group ID, 20875; password, nsbb. The contest is free as always, and this year there are cash prizes. $5 million for a perfect bracket, $10,000 for the best bracket if not perfect (that's the best basket nationally, not just in our group :( ). I'm Bye Bye Sampscum.
  17. Nobody said "in before lock." Too late now. :P
  18. Absolutely unacceptable. The Bears had been rebuilding for years and years (with the exception of the fluke 2001 season). They finally make it back to the playoffs for two years. Rebuilding AGAIN so quickly after only two playoff appearances is not an option.
  19. I've now discovered that http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gifand http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif also have the same text (: P). You get the second one when clicking on either of them.
  20. Go ahead, answer a question I already answered about 7 hours ago. :P
  21. It did, but I caught it and corrected it right away. :P
  22. Dave Lopes, a former Cub player and current 1B coach of the Phillies, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is expected to make a full recovery. Another former coach, Jerry Martin, will serve as 1B coach during Lopes' absence.
