  1. That option needs to be turned off. I agree we need to be able to pick up players that have cleared waivers during the week in case of trades or injuries. Another reason you might need to pick up a player during the week is if a player on your team gets sent to the minors. If the current setup remains I think we need more reserve spots to allow an adequate number of backups so we wouldn't need to fill a position during the week.
  2. :x  :(
  3. Prior gets unfairly lumped in with Prior. Prior gets lumped in with himself?
  4. I see no harm in this thread. Yes, it is the new annual tie-breaker in the predictions contest, but if people want to discuss it separately that's fine. There may be people not participating in the contest who are still interested in talking about this. For the record, my guess is July 4. Lou will provide the fireworks.
  5. I see Raisin has voted in this poll. :D UNC looks unbeatable to me.
  6. The Game Threads forum is for game threads, just like the Polls forum is for polls. I'm moving this to Baseball Discussions; we've had broadcast-related discussions here in the past. I'll sticky it to keep it on the front page for the duration of the freeview.
  7. Hope you're right. My intention was to compare Davidson with Ball State, not Kansas with UNLV. UNLV was the #1 overall seed and overwhelming favorite going into the tournament, so the relevant comparison would be to compare UNLV with North Carolina, not Kansas.
  8. Baltimore should give the Cubs a reasonable Roberts trade solely out of appreciation for the Cubs drafting Harvey and letting Markakis fall. :D
  9. The Davidson-Kansas game reminded me of Ball State (yes, they were once good in basketball) vs. UNLV in the 1990 regional semi-final. Ball State, a #12 seed, beat #5 Oregon State (yes, they were also once good in basketball) and #4 Louisville to advance to the Sweet 16. They then played #1 UNLV and had a chance to win with a last-second shot, but didn't get it (I don't recall if they missed the shot or didn't even get it off; it was a few years ago). UNLV then beat Loyola-Marymount (following the death of Hank Gathers) to advance to the Final Four, where they won the championship. Ball State was the only team in the entire tournament that had a chance to beat UNLV; I don't think any of their other games were even within 10 points.
  10. My team IS the best, and I have a season point total of -0.25 to prove it. :P
  11. It was mentioned on the Cubs' telecast Saturday that Fielder didn't play because of the flu, but hoped to be back Monday. Bob jokingly said that he should take the series off to get well.
  12. It may not be televised by ESPN2, but it would by WGN, so anyone who gets WGN on cable or satellite would get the game. Maybe not in HD, though. :(
  13. I got the problem again tonight, at exactly 3:00 A.M. Eastern time. This time it didn't go away right away. I still was getting the message after five minutes. I finally navigated completely away from NSBB, then came back, and it was OK.
  14. "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen.
  15. And Markakis instead of Harvey in 2003 = no need for Soriano.
  16. I won't be able to watch the game live due to work; thank God for the DVR. I'd like to watch the WGN telecast and hear Len & Bob, but no WGN-HD on DirecTV means hello ESPN2.
  17. Does IU really want a coach who left his heart in San Francisco? :D Seriously, if he's really interested in IU, my wish list begins and ends with Pitino. I've seen first-hand how quickly he can restore a broken program. My last two years as a doctoral student at Kentucky were Pitino's first two years as coach. He took a program in shambles due to NCAA probation (two years' postseason ban) that was coming off its worst record in decades and had them back at .500 his first year and with the best record in the SEC the next year. His third year, their first year of being eligible again for postseason, they were one miracle shot (Christian Laettner) away from the Final Four. Four years later he won the national championship, followed the next year by a runner-up finish. And the following year they won another title with players recruited by Pitino even though he had left. Then he takes over a Louisville program that had been declining during the last few years of the Denny Crum era and has them back in Final Four contention. He's exactly what IU needs, and based on his history he's probably ready to move on to the next challenge.
  18. I got the maximum users message late last night too, but I hit the refresh button and it was OK.
  19. 1. Male or Female? 2. Have you always been a Cubs fan? Yes If No, who's fan were you before? 3. Have you ever heard of the Curse before? Yes 4. Do you believe that there is a Curse preventing the Cubs from going to the World Series? No if Yes, do you think it can be broken? 5. Do you believe that some fans use the Curse as an excuse for the Cubs loses? Yes 6. What reasons can you give to explain why the Cubs haven't had a World Series win in 100 years? Incompetent management
  20. Completely irrelevant, since the Cubs aren't trading Pie.
  21. I wish they were in the International League. That way they'd come to Durham each year.
  22. It sounds like he'll only be down for two starts before coming back. One of my fantasy teams hopes that's the case.
