What I'd like to see (if the Reds DFA Corey and he clears waivers) is for the Cubs to sign him to a minor league contract, send him to Iowa, and see if Von Joshua can turn him around. -

No, because he wasn't a "one-time" star at the time he played for the Cubs. If he returns to the Cubs after he's past his prime (like Ken Holtzman) then he'd belong. -
Definitely a tragedy. Reminds me of around 15 years ago or so when a former classmate of mine from graduate school was killed when a tree snapped in an ice storm and crushed the roof of his car into his skull. I too thought it was spelled Jeremi, but it's shown as Geremi in the article on cubs.com as well as Baseball Reference.

I was very down on Hendry after 2005 and 2006, but my opinion of him has gradually improved over the past couple of years. I still want to see the Cubs move forward rather than just getting back to the 2003 level, but they're on the right track. -

First time in awhile that I've been online at this time. I see that the board still crashes right on schedule at 3:00 A.M. Eastern time.

Blah pitching day from Santana and Harang, but big days from Gonzalez, Greene (finally!), and Drew keeps me in a comfortable lead. Fortunately my worst pitching performance of the day (Bannister) was on my bench.

probably the mets. piazza's indicating that was the best time of his career. It's not up to Piazza, though. It's the Hall that decides.

Big day for my team today, nearly 50 points with no pitching starts. 4 dingers combined from Vlad (2), Gonzalez, and Laird, and my bullpen combo of Shields and K-Rod combined for double digits again. I lead by just under 30 with 5 pitching starts remaining apiece. I have to root for NSBB in the big match this week. I could be tied for 1st in the East if everything goes right.
