  1. Looking at the Cubs schedule that year is just so depressing. I remember that year really well. Incredible start and it looked like the Cubs were going to steamroll through the season. Then one pitcher went on the DL. Then another. And another. And another. Then the entire starting rotation was on the DL at the same time. tough to manage through that. I remember that year too. I really thought the Cubs were going to win back-to-back division titles until the bottom dropped out. The pitching situation seemed similar to 2006, with one major difference. In 2006 the Cubs had legitimate pitching prospects that were called up earlier than they otherwise would have been, but I think that experience helped some of them (such as Marmol and Marshall) last year. In 1985, however, they were starting AA-quality pitchers who never pitched in the majors after that year (anybody remember the legendary Steve Engel, Johnny Abrego, and Derek Botelho?).
  2. The problem's still occuring every day at the same time. :x
  3. I must not have received the memo that said hypothetical trades couldn't be mentioned if they aren't realistic.
  4. No, Soriano is not always injured. He had one trip to the DL last year and once this year, and that's it for his career. That is not "always injured." Overpriced, that one I'll give you.
  5. Serioiusly? After 3 weeks of the season we have changed our minds and Theriot is acceptable? There is no way that anyone can say that the past 20 games have changed anyones true talent. Thats ridiculous. With Cedeno also on the roster, Lugo is not needed as much. I would do that trade, provided the Cubs could flip Lugo to another team. Hey, I'm all for starting Ronny at SS permanently, but as we saw today hes behind Theriot on the depth chart. We did not see that at all. What we did see is that, if they're both going to start, he likes Theriot at SS and Cedeno at 2B rather than the other way around.
  6. I've substituted Cedeno (hot) for Greene (not).
  7. 2 1/4 point lead for me, plus a 7-6 advantage in remaining pitching starts. I'll take that.
  8. Many of us were expecting big things from the offense last year because of Perry replacing Clines as hitting coach. It took awhile, but it's paying off big time now.
  9. Once Soriano returns (May 1) I'd use Theriot, Cedeno, and DeRosa in a three-way rotation at 2B and SS to keep all three fresh. Theriot at SS and DeRosa at 2B one day, then Cedeno at SS and DeRosa at 2B, then Theriot at SS and Cedeno at 2B (or some variation of that order). Whichever of the three isn't starting in a given game could be used as a pinch-hitter or in a double switch.
  10. You've got to be kidding. I'd trade Marquis straight up for Lincecum any day and twice on Sundays, and I'm sure Hendry would too. I think he was suggesting that from the perspective of Hendry being the Giants' hypothetical GM. Ah. I was interpreting it as Hendry being the Cubs' actual GM. What you said makes more sense given the context of the post.
  11. And the season Cedeno is having makes Fontenot even more expendable. Between Cedeno, Theriot, and DeRosa 2B and SS are more than ably manned. I think sending Fontenot down is a no-brainer.
  12. You've got to be kidding. I'd trade Marquis straight up for Lincecum any day and twice on Sundays, and I'm sure Hendry would too.
  13. What's their to understand? If they come to an agreement they won't run the risk of running out of time. They aren't free agents, but Miami is free to take any one of them. The rest of the team are not. just seems weird to do it before draft day. can they not announce it until Saturday? I don't see the big deal with this. This isn't anything new; it's happened a number of times in the past (although I don't think it has the past few years). Since the team with the #1 pick is guaranteed their choice there's no harm in reaching a deal in advance. And I don't see why it hurts to announce it either; that way other teams know he won't be available and can plan accordingly.
  14. Or you could protect yourself against negative outings by benching them all.
  15. My guess is that you're right about Eyre but not Fox; they're in different situations. Eyre is on the major league disabled list and in Daytona on a rehab assignment. Fox, however, was signed to a minor league contract and is not on the 40-man roster. So I believe he's officially assigned to Daytona and counts against their roster.
  16. Tell him to let Mark Cuban buy the Cubs.
  17. That was Mark Kanges. I don't post there anymore, so I don't know if he does.
  18. I think he'll return to form, but it may be the second half of this year or next year. Pitchers frequently have a tough time their first year back from TJS (see Kerry Wood, 1999).
  19. It was reported on the ESPN telecast tonight that Dave Keller (minor league hitting coordinator) was called in to work with Pie as well. That's another sign they want him to be successful. Whether they're going about things the right way is debatable, but them wanting him to succeed is not debatable.
  20. If Kosuke is a worry, then the Cubs have no worries. Don't worry, be happy.
  21. Agreed. It would 2010 at the earliest, for the Cubs to have a new Gm. Not agreed. There are some leaps of faith in the logic there. It's a long season and the Cubs have played the Pittsburgh AAAA's and played .500 ball against all others. They have Z and a good bullpen. The bullpen will wear down if they don't get some better starts. This is the Cubs we're talking about. Now they're above .500 against non-Pittsburgh teams. They're looking very impressive. I think Hendry's safe for at least one more year.
  22. I was planning to go to the Tennessee-Carolina game, but decided against it when there were several severe thunderstorm warnings in the area (including my county) at the time I would have needed to leave in order to get to the game on time. Oh well, I'm not complaining; I didn't mind watching tonight's Cubs game instead. :D
  23. I've just gazed into my crystal ball, and I think I see a return trip to Zebulon in my near future.

    Week 3

Just three weeks into the season, and everybody in both divisions has at least one loss.
