  1. I'd expect the Cubs to place him on the bereavement list and call up a player for the next three days.
  2. The Cubs do have one more interleague series coming up in October. :D
  3. I think the one to the far right is Shania Twain. I'm not sure about the other one.
  4. We'll do it if you'll then trade us Sheets for Marquis straight up and pay all of Marquis' salary. :D
  5. You're the fourth person to speak up, and the most openings possible is three. Unless someone ahead of you in line changes their mind you'll be out of luck for this year. No reason why you (or somebody else) shouldn't start up another league; there's no rule that there can only be one NSBB league. You could always take out a contract and eliminate somebody ahead of you in line.

  7. why is that the one you agree with? If a pitcher throws 9 no-hit innings, yet loses it in the tenth, it shouldn't count as a no-hitter? I don't agree with a pitcher being penalized (as far as milestones go) because of his own team's lack of offense. A no-hitter is about the pitcher . . . why should what eight other guys do at the plate matter. Oh well, it's not like that scenario is ever likely in my lifetime. Because it's not a shutout if a pitcher gives up no runs over 9 innings but gives up a run in extra innings. Nor is it a complete game if a pitcher pitches 9 innings but is relieved in extra innings. I just think there should be consistency in qualifying for a complete game, shutout, or no-hitter since they all relate to the pitcher's accomplishments.
  8. It is when it's been a century since the last championship.
  9. I've never participated in a fantasy league with that type of structure before, so I don't have an informed opinion yet. I do think, however, that if such a radical change were to be made within Roadkill it would need to take effect for 2010, not next year. People have already made trades involving draft picks for next year, and since that's already started I think the same type of draft (rather than an auction or salary cap) needs to be maintained. Plus, given the change in rules for exemptions already announced for next year I think the concept of exemptions needs to be maintained for next year. Personally I agree with Tim's idea of a separate league under the proposed structure rather than making such a radical change in Roadkill.
  10. Sorry, was thinking of Quinton McCracken. Carry on. How the hell do you get those two mixed up? Easy. They both start with "Mc" and end with "n."
  11. The current rules for a no-hitter are completely indefensible. A rain-shortened game also doesn't qualify as a no-hitter any more, even though it would still count as a shutout and a complete game. The one rule change I do agree with is that a game where no hits are given up in regulation but at least one is in extra innings no longer counts (e.g. Harvey Haddix, Hippo Vaughn). It's not rocket science; it should be very simple. If a team has a zero in the hit column for an official game, regardless of length, it's a no-hitter.
  12. No, he's from The Citadel, according to his Baseball Reference page He was born in Greensboro, NC.
  13. Of course Fukudome would start; he's not a platoon player.
  14. I agree injuries are the culprit. No cause for alarm yet. Worst case scenerio is that the Cubs will still have the best record in the NL, a divisional lead of at least 3.5 games, and no worse than the second best record in all of baseball at the end of the day. If that's as bad as it gets I'll take it.
  15. He's slipping. Missed some DP opportunities today. :D
  16. Or the worst player in history (if you combine Corey's hitting with Eric's fielding). :D
  17. My reply to the subject: Not just no, but HELL no.
  18. Since we're now going back beyond 8 years, Jayson Peterson. I would have mentioned Griffin and Cunningham earlier myself if I realized we were now going back further. :D
  19. Luis Montanez. I think Chadd Blasko and Luke Hagerty also deserve consideration for this list.
  20. He can't come back until 10 days after being sent down.
  21. If he played for New York or Boston they'd know what position he plays.
  22. You must be talking about first names with more than three letters.
  23. Correct, however we do need another starter. No argument on that point; I'm just arguing that today's outing didn't make that more obvious (as the original post seemed to imply).
  24. It will not be Carrasco. He's right-handed and, more importantly, not on the 40-man roster. I think the most likely candidate is Piggy. He's a lefty (which I think the Cubs would definitely want to replace Eyre) and he's on the 40-man roster.Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I thought we only had 39 guys on the 40 man right now? If that's the case, then it wouldn't be an issue to add someone if needed for this kind of scenario. But, I agree, I doubt it'd be Carrasco.According to cubs.com the 40-man roster is full. I think there were 39 at one point, but one of the more recent moves (maybe the signing of Edmonds) put it back at 40.
  25. Today's game does NOT show that we need another starter. What it DOES show is that Dempster, as good as he's been this year, is human and can have an occasional stinker just like anybody. Making any judgments based on today's game is extreme overreaction.
