  1. Mark DeRosa to my DL, Mike Hampton signed, Dustin McGowan sent to the scrap heap.
  2. Very nice start to the week, with Victorino taking batting practice off the Reds' pitching and Washburn pitching a complete game one-hit shutout. Now it's time for me to steal a page from Adam's book and brag about having the high score of the week after Monday's games. :D
  3. Not necessarily. People who don't otherwise read that thread might be interested in this. By your logic discussion of Steve McNair's murder should be in the NFL thread and not it's own thread.
  4. An All-Star and Pitcher of the Week in AA during his first full season of professional baseball. Not bad at all.
  5. I've given enough time for last year's members to re-up, so I'm now filling the remaining spots with new members. I sent an invite to Prior4CyYoung. That will make 10 members; from here on out I plan to issue invitations 2 at a time (up to the maximum 14 members) to ensure an even number of teams in the league. ELCABALL045 is next in line, and once somebody else indicates an interest (to keep the league at an even number of teams) I'll issue invites to both. So post your interest here (first-come, first-served). The only expectation is that you are committed to remaining active even if your team is in the toilet. :D
  6. Which is actually an improvement over the .133 he put up with the Orioles. If this trend continues the Royals can expect him to hit .153 for them.
  7. They need to, but they won't. Hendry won't admit it was a mistake (especially since it was a two-year contract). I think the best we could hope for would be for Miles to remain on the DL.
  8. Armageddon must be at hand. I was wrong about them starting with only one backup MI and finally going to 11 pitchers. The first one didn't last long though, wonder how long this one will. Depending on how much the bullpen is used between now and then I could see a move being made before the doubleheader on Sunday. By then Ascanio will have been down more than 10 days and eligible to return.
  9. He can't until the sale is final, but yes, that's the first thing he should do. And then he should hire Paul DePodesta. No, but he could let the Trib know that he's going to make a change, hoping that the Trib will pull the trigger now if they know that's what Ricketts wants.
  10. I wonder if someone kicked Patton in the crotch. Maybe Lou did after his performance on Saturday.
  11. Groin sprain. I was wondering what phantom injury they'd invent for Patton.
  12. I really hope not. I think Fox is worth more then a "AL reliever." Let him play out the season to raise his value and then move him to the AL in the offseason. Trading Fox for a "reliever" doesn't improve the tean. Why would we trade him at the peak of his value? My guess will be that Hendry will let every team know we want to trade Fox, play him sporadically for the rest of the year so his numbers dip, constantly send him back to AAA and recall him a week later until he is out of options, and then trade him for a AA relief pitcher next spring. I know you meant this tongue-in-cheek, but moving him up and down doesn't affect his option status. An option is used each year that he's sent down while on the 40-man roster, but regardless of whether he's sent down once or ten times that year it's still just one option. The option for this year was already burned when he was sent down to start the season.
  13. No. He was DFA'd last week to make room for Baker.
  14. I don't think MLB has any say. MLB has no ownership interest in the Cubs. It's up to the Trib and how much input they may be willing to give Ricketts at this time. It's also possible that the bankruptcy court may have some say; I'm not sure about that.
  15. That's what I'm thinking (especially now that it's been reported that she had a gun).
  16. He's already passed the 90 days. He can be DL'd at any time.
  17. Thinking ahead, are we using the short week after the All-Star Game this year? And if so, what is the pitching start limit for that week?
  18. A good defensive player who can play multiple positions in the infield, I think it's more likely that someone would claim him than not. Somebody would find a space on the roster for a late-inning defensive replacement who could occasionally start and give a regular a day off.
  19. My memory could be playing tricks on me, then (after all, I'm less than a half year away from turning 50 :( ). I thought that was how Marmol made the team last year, but I can't swear to it.
  20. I've pointed out exactly this in other related threads. Once he passed the 90 day mark there's no reason to send him back. Put him on the DL with a phantom injury until rosters expand, then bring him back for garbage duty in September when he wouldn't be wasting a roster spot. Then they can send him down for more development next year.
  21. They could give up that silly notion and just send Hart and Shark down. That would be a possibility too. I was really thinking more of the idea of cutting back to 11 pitchers than which pitcher would go down.
  22. I'm not sure if there's a set rule for granting a 4th option year or if that's decided on a case-by-case basis. The Cubs were granted an extra option year for Angel Guzman when he was recovering from TJS.
  23. It was already completed. Karl Malden completed the second. Maybe this is the start of a third. Can't help but think that Patrick Swazye is getting close to this list. And, at least according to some reports, Walter Cronkite.
  24. Maybe if I start this thread early and start thinking about Week 14 I'll be able to put Week 13 out of my mind. :D
