    They're doing a 3 day draft this year? I thought it was 1-2 the first day? Or is it 1 the first day, 2-7 the next? For the last several years its been 1st round on Thurday, 2-3 and Friday, 4-7 on Saturday Ahhh right, I forgot they start on Thursday nights w/rd1

    or, at some point, Bear fans need to come to terms with the fact that megastar QBs are extremely rare and difficult to find, and that the idea that the Bears have had a rough time finding one should have ZERO bearing on their choices going forward. So why even give it air time? Notice how you're arguing this with me, the person who said history doesn't matter, and not the person who tried to use Bears history as their argument. you outlined a process of picking the wrong QB and then called it all a "pretty bears thing to do.", were you talking about UCLA?

If the exact same argument is used to keep justin fields, it's sparkling reasonable concern. or, at some point, Bear fans need to come to terms with the fact that megastar QBs are extremely rare and difficult to find, and that the idea that the Bears have had a rough time finding one should have ZERO bearing on their choices going forward.     or pick many until you find one So just throw darts and pray rather than use those picks on solid players at other positions. You know as well as anyone else that every darft has some guys that you just know what youre getting and others that teams arent sure what they are. So lets get the guys we know can contribute from day one in the 1st and second rounds and question marks and big dreams after that sure, but currently their strategy appears to be throwing darts at the board Jones Mooney Pettis St Brown Pringle Harry Claypool who else?

    I get the concern of going defense again but Fields was starting to put up points. If we had a defense to prevent the same from happening to us it would be beneficial. Also i am not a fan of takign wr in 1st round unless he looks like Calvin Johnson and you know hes a HR. Lots of good receivers come out of rounds 3-5. Just need to pick the right one. or pick many until you find one

    do you think his value is higher then the #1 pick in the draft? ie, would you trade more for Fields then you would for the #1 pick? Probably a little less, but not much. i tend to think he has more value but I'm a noted bears homer. That being said, I think its easier to get teams in a feeding frenzy chasing a prospect out of college (or several possible selections - ergo, #1 pick) than it is to get them chasing a known commodity like Fields. there's always the hope the guy that can be drafted could be the perfect HOF Player, and once one team thinks its possible, group think seems to take hold and wa-la, you've got a bidding war. That's another reason why the #1 pick gets traded for more

    So you agree its a stupid hypothetical to trade Fields and draft Young? Or you would but think Fields value is even closer to Youngs? I think Fields value is higher than what's listed there. do you think his value is higher then the #1 pick in the draft? ie, would you trade more for Fields then you would for the #1 pick?

    Isn't he saying that's the pro Bryce logic? but if he does choose Bryce over Justin we can trust it’s not because it’s popular, but because he spent a ton of time and energy studying them and thought he was the best. It would be a huge risky move exactly, which is why I'm saying trade values are of little or no justification for actually trading Fields. just because he wont bring as much in a trade as the #1 pick will doesn't mean he's the lesser prospect. Or another way to look at it is is that even though Fields is a better prospect, he's still likely to bring far less in a trade than the #1 pick...for all the reasons you and others have suggested!

    I have my doubts about Poles and his judgement, but come on, this is nothing like an immigrant blindly shopping for popular products. If anything Poles has shown the complete opposite by not going after the popular items on everybody else’s list. I'm not saying Poles is or will act this way, I'm saying what hairyduck is suggesting is analogous to the way she shopped

Not that it's a route I would want them to take even if it weren't the case. Why can't you say the same thing about the no. 1 pick? The second you put it on the market, you're devaluing the top prospect. It's a stain all on its own. We've seen some very, very stained QBs get full value on the trade market in recent years. If NFL teams believe Fields can play QB at a high level, he'll demand full value. If they don't, then why are we so sure they're wrong? ' because the #1 pick holds the value of ANY prospect in the draft, so its impossible to devalue any single one by trading it.

Not that it's a route I would want them to take even if it weren't the case. I reminds me of my mother-in-law's shopping strategy in the super market. She was born and raised outside of Manila and moved here in her 30's, so much of American life was learn-on-the-fly. Essentially, she would walk around and watch what other people bought and buy those items, judging if they were popular they must be good. I dont think its a great way to grocery shop OR evaluate your NFL QB, she could quickly over-buy inferior products and in Poles case, walk away from a better QB prospect for the sake of misguided perceptions

    Yeah, the only way the Bears somehow had the 14th ranked OL is off some other teams' QBs died on the field. i tend to think that although the Bears have some young, promising talent on the O-line (Jenkins and Jones, specifically), the massive hole that resides at the very middle position is what drags them down

    If Peyton Manning was there at #1, sure I'd consider trading Fields. But neither Young nor Stroud nor the UK guy strike me as better options/more promising then Fields was or is. as for who to draft, I think the Bears will need to cast a very wide net in both FA and the draft, and I dont care if the first three picks are all D as long as they use FA to address the O, or vice versa. We got needs everywhere, my friend

    I have seen articles about how the Bears should draft Young and trade Fields. I think most of it is just sports writer bs and being overwhelmed with the idea of having the top pick; like the exuberance makes people stupid. I don't think anyone seriously thinks the Bears are going to move on from Fields. However, Young is a pretty special college QB. I am not 100% convinced that he's a pro QB. He'll have to have Drew Breese-like talent to make it. I don't think the risk of trading Fields is worth the reward. There are too many questions about all of the top QBs in the draft to take a chance that they'd be better. idk, I feel like there are people serious about the Bears drafting young. that being said, I dont think he's anything better prospect-wise then Fields is or was
