  1. Packers will likely have the bye, Saints maybe Rams. So, upset the Saints (which isn't impossible) but get blown out by GB.
  2. Really? I keep seeing all 4 of them going in the top 10-12 of mock drafts Teams that I could definitely see picking a QB that will probably finish ahead of the Bears if they go 8-8: Jets, Jaguars, Panthers, Broncos, Giants, 49ers, Patriots, WFT Teams that could pick QB but less likely: Falcons, Cowboys (if they dont keep Dak), Eagles (if they dont like Hurts), Lions, Vikings, Raiders Teams that definitely won't pick a QB: Bengals, Texans, Chargers, Cardinals well, yes, that's the concern I guess, and has always been the concern since early Nov: there are plenty of bad teams needing to draft QB's and more then a few worse then the Bears. That's all I mean by a "decent" shot at one w/o a trade. If the Bears were to finish 6-10, Jets, Jags, Panthers, 49'rs would all likely still be ahead of them. Cowboys, Eagles, and Falcons as well. I think the Broncos will stick with Lock for at least another season FWIW
  3. I feel like we are past the point where we will get a decent shot at one of the top 4 qbs w/o a trade, so just win baby
  4. you're right, I'm sure the white dudes keeping stats for the mlb tried to downgrade or belittle the stats of the negro league as much as they could It didn't have anything to do with white guys keeping stats. Negro League stats are considered spotty because they are incomplete, not because the stats were belittled by white people. The reason they are incomplete is because often times they didn't want to pay or couldn't afford an official scorekeeper for their games and also because many of their games weren't covered by the Negro press members. If a member of the press did attend the game, they'd keep their own scorecard and then publish it along with their game report. That's mostly where our Negro League stats come from: newspapers. So finding the statistics are the issue, not people belittling them. I know that there could be other factors, but given long running racism in this country I just assume the worse from people. thanks for the explanation

  6. Perhaps it's only for my own sanity, but I chalk up that kind of talk to silly quotable marshmellowy stuff rather than actual value inputs. Like describing QB evaluation to journalists and fans from a plethora of scouting notes and tape is probably kind of hard and may require some esoteric knowledge. So if I was a GM I'd probably use dumb feel good anecdotes too rather than try and explain how my scouting/eval system works. yes but he missed on Kid Jordan and Pippen #2 (to stretch a sports metaphor). Marshmellowy stuff just makes it worse. If he said "I flipped a coin because, wow want a choice! - all my scouts and numbers and slide rules were off the f-n charts"; I could respect it more. As it is, all I have is "nice car" eta: in the end, this is a weird thing to split hairs on cuz for either reason we would still be stuck watching other teams get great quarterbacks....and we dont
  7. HOW DEVILISH OF THEM
  8. pretty much this in a nutshell, although when he starts to glowingly talk about Trubiskys beater car, I feel justified in pointing it out as stupid
  9. I'm terrified of Pace drafting sometimes. He (like every other Bears GM before him) can pick D well, but when he focuses in on an offensive player, ufff. He's a hard one for me because I like the Smith, Jackson, Johnson picks, but getting duffed on Trubisky because the 49'ers supposedly had interest from another team, and the fact he just liked Trubiskys car, scares the hell out me. Eh. His drafting has been fine. Even offensively, he's added starters/key contributors in Whitehair, Daniels, Cohen, Miller, Howard, Montgomery, Kmet, and Mooney. Trubisky wasn't even a disaster of a pick, but obviously not the right one. Getting the QB wrong though is a fireable offensse. the reasons he gave for trading up and taking Trubisky were f-in bonkers. I agree with you on the other guys you point out
  10. I think I'm ok with it too. I really want Nagy gone. I understand if a new president wants to evaluate the guys for a year, but I think it's clear Nagy is NOT the guy. I see 0 chance he's coaching the team in 2022, so don't know why he'd be here in 2021. Pace I could see staying on longer if he hits on the next coach and QB and things are looking upward pretty quickly. The key to me is not to have Pace in desperation mode. A team president should prevent big contracts with tons of dead money like he gave to Quinn, Graham and Foles. But at the same time, it probably wouldn't prevent a potentially bold move for a franchise QB. My thoughts on Nagy and Pace are complete opposites. I hated what Nagy did with the kicker search. And his offense has been garbage most of the time. But I think he's been hamstrung by Pace's roster miscues. I could see Nagy learning from his mistakes and doing better down the road, whereas I think Pace is what he is. I'm terrified of Pace drafting sometimes. 11. The optimistic view is that they salvage a hotly debated draft pick and move on to building the rest of the team. If it ends up being Tannehill-level play it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. But if they somehow work themselves into the next Aaron Rodgers (via draft pick or FA), horsefeathers it go deep. I just don't know how you do that; (IE I don't know how you identify that superstar QB in the draft at least, FA is easier, a la Prescott). Tannehill level play is also largely predicated on having a Derrick Henry though right? I'd take Tannehill ca. Dolphins at this point. he was an average/above average QB, and even that is something this team struggles to attain.
  12. it was very "west coast offense-ish", Bill Walsh version 2.0 I thought

  14. I'm not convinced that was Foles only issue, he himself isn't someone I would call a "competent QB". No it wasn't his only issue, I was referring to your comment about Foles calling out Nagy on deep stuff. Foles reacted negatively to Nagy taking his foot off the gas after a series of quick successful plays was stopped with a foolish Timout so they could be sure to make the exact right call on 1st down, as well as for calling plays that required a strong pass protection while nobody could block. Those are different from actually being against throwing deep passes. The deep ball has been open and lots of receivers have been missed by both Mitch and Nick. yea, I dont want to make excuses for either QB and try and make the claim that they are really "Patrick Mahomes, repressed". I am curious if the coaching has turned a page, however, and somehow learned how to use the players with the limited skills that they have
  15. yea, I seem to remember that too, and I thought it was that he was inaccurate on the long passes or making the wrong reads. It looks like Lazor has finally said "f-the deep ball", however. And lets not forget that Foles himself called Nagy out on the deep, long developing plays not working. what if Nagys offense works w/o a lot of deep stuff? I guess we get 3 more games to find out. maybe The deep stuff would have worked quite often with a competent QB throwing the ball. Foles had more of an issue trying to make slower developing plays behind a hodgepodge offensive line. I'm not convinced that was Foles only issue, he himself isn't someone I would call a "competent QB".

  17. Who is pushing back against the idea that Mitch has had some success against garbage teams? maybe minnesota? lol no, I'm uniquely aware, like us all. But I also saw last game a game-plan change with shorter, quicker passes and I really wonder why that is happening. Is it Lazor or is it the opportunity for exploitation the Houston D presented? If its simple "playing bad defenses", why haven't we seen it prior against other bad defenses (or have we, I don't recall that play calling in the Nagy era)? Was it all keyed off of Montys 80 yrd run? This is from fansided so read into it as you may, but I thought this was interesting: In his career, he averages 8.3 air yards per pass attempt. However, against Detroit, that number was just 6.2 and against Houston, it was 4.4. Sunday was the lowest air yards per attempt of his career, while the week before his sixth-lowest rate. One note that is interesting is that Trubisky is 5-0 in games where he averages less than 6.2 air yards per attempt and could have been 6-0 at 6.3 or lower had the Bears not blown the lead to the Lions. https://beargoggleson.com/2020/12/16/chicago-bears-figure-something-mitch-trubisky/?utm_campaign=apple-news&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=apple-news I'm looking forward to seeing how the play calling continues or changes going forward honestly. the key to getting the most from Trubisky might be by limiting his reads to easy ones, ie take away his biggest issue: not being able to read a defense
  18. That's true, but spiders in general kick ass
  19. Oh and it's so cool when teams are named after birds and widdle baby mammals. Or beer Or dumb fish Or socks for crying out loud
  20. The Spiders were a different team altogether. They were an NL team. The Cleveland AL team was only ever: Naps Broncos Lake Shores Bluebirds Rustlers those names suck, if they pick one of them they deserve to never play in the WS again
  21. you've never had bad Indian food huh?
  22. Remember the last two years of Cutlers career? I'd assume that statistic wise with Stafford. He'd be stop gap but not much more.
  23. eh, the only one I think they would miss would be ARob, and possibly Leno if his draft replacement sucked
  24. if you are cutting both tackles and the #1 wr, Prescott might not be great anymore. Draft a tackle w/ the early pick you don't spend on WR. Bears have lost nothing from Massie's performance with Ifedi and Spriggs starting multiple games, spend another 1.5M for a player similar to those and they'll be fine if the rookie is decent. if you could pull that off, Bateman (yea, I know, I'm a homer) might be a perfect pick at where the Bears would be drafting. But how likely is it that Prescott will hit the open market? He's 27, plays a premier position and plays it well. why wouldn't the Cowboys at least franchise him? (I really don't know what the thinking is on Prescott and Dallas at the moment)
