Realistically, what do we need to add for next year to feel like we're putting Justin in a real position to succeed? Something like this? - 2 1 starting caliber WR + a WR who isn't necessarily a starter caliber (% of plays-wise) but can play either slot/outside... ideally one of these HAS to be a big WR... lacking in size really hurts us IMO. Scheme/playcalling from the new HC will be more important than getting 2 starters at WR. - 1 starting caliber TE I would let Kmet be the main guy and let him sink or swim and then get a decent backup that doesn't cost whatever Graham is costing us. If Kmet disappoints, then you can draft a TE or sign one for 2023 season. I would save $$$ here so it can go towards WR or C. - A starting caliber Center- Definitely need one at this position. - A starting caliber guard (ideally just extend James Daniels)- Extending Daniels would be best assuming he won't get 10+/mil a year. Who else will be a FA that is starting caliber? - A backup tackle (these last few weeks to determine how good he needs to be)- I would let Jenkins and Borom run with it next season regardless. We need to know exactly what we got with these guys. A decent backup swing tackle would be nice to have for injury purposes. Try to save $$ here as well for WR or C. With the cap space open this offseason, that's probably actually doable? You're left bargain hunting on defense, but I'd be happy to finally have a team that can win games 34-27. I think this is a more realistic approach for this offseason. I think this would still be enough to put Fields in a position to succeed, but it's on the lower end of the spectrum. Think of it as bare minimum as you're asking a lot to sign quite a few starters (5- possibly 6) on one side of the ball in one FA signing period. The question becomes is if we extend both Daniels and Roquan Smith (he should be extended IMO), will we have enough to do all of this? I would also like to sign a decent CB opposite Johnson or in the slot on the defense side. I really like what I saw from Graham last night, but I would feel better if we got another CB that we can rely on. The rest of the D we can bargain hunt like you said. We have an early 2nd and 3rd in the draft where one of those picks could fill one of the spots up above. Plus we got all those cuts/restructures that we could do although I haven't look at the Bears roster and salary cap that closely yet. I want Graham starting the rest of the season to see if last night was real or just an adrenaline-fuled fluke, but I loved seeing him breaking up passes left and right

Fields has 12 in 9 games (9 starts, one was a half game, and another half game vs. CIN). Prorate that to 16 games (to compare historically) and that's 21.3 fumbles which would be the 3rd most fumbles in a season in NFL history (the record is 23). It's a lot. Also concerning is that I feel like several of Fields fumbles are coming in the open field. Tom Brady's likely weren't coming on designed runs. Like the one last night...that can't happen. Getting blindsided as you drop back to pass is quite a bit more excusable. I don't mean to be overly negative about it because this doesn't mean he can't clean it up at all, and if he's rushing for 400+ yards a year you can live with it, but I think its a problem right now. Edit: Though looking back at the league leaders you posted, many of them are running QBs, so maybe that's just the price you pay for QBs who run a lot, though he needs to get better in general fields absolutely needs to tuck the ball better when he takes off, but I also dont hold the fumbles against him. Poor decision making and int's would scare me much more

You can say its just one game, but it wasn't like he played decent or good, he had a legit terrific game. Jaylen and Graham as the CBs of the next 4-5 years sounds appealing. but who made that decision? Doesn't Desai have any input? And if it was Nagy, it makes you wonder how much unrealized potential gets sidelined for the Jimmy G's, the Nick Foles, Gipsons on the roster, veteran guys brought in to fill holes who end up holding back the organization

yea, the heroics of the Pittsburgh game werent there, and you can chock it up to garbage time, but Fileds play int eh 4th really wasnt garbage time. They were down 2 scores and had plenty of time to get them. I thought it was one of Fileds best "showing growth" games. He fumbled early, struggled with the pass rush, but once Jenkins settled in, he was picking apart the vikings. I think it goes to show that Fileds needs 1) more playing time and 2) better supporting cast members

To be fair, the Bears did have Johnson following Adams around the first time they played. Johnson was similarly good on the outside and got beat pretty handily in the slot. But IDC if you have to change your whole defense, you can't let DeVante Adams roam all over the field and face man coverage with Xavier Crawford, or LBs or a safety. If he beats Johnson (joke here) from the slot, then so be it. Get beat with your best on their best. yea. Its puzzling why the Bears didnt just play spy with Adams/Johnson.

There's a theory that many of these calls are mobile/immobile related. Mobile QBs universally believe that they don't get the calls that the pocket guys get. Cam Newton has always complained about it, and still isn't getting the calls at his veteran age. But the mobile QBs not getting roughing call thing leads to the potential of racially motivated calls, which I'm sure the league isn't ready to admit. I wonder if there's a statistic for how many roughing calls each QB has gotten. I'd be interested to see how guys like Herbert, Allen, and Mayfield compare to Lamar, Kyler and others. There were several plays sunday night where the GB defender took 2-3 steps as Fields was releasing the ball and still hit/tackled him. I'm used to it by now, but it seems like the refs let opposing D's tee off on him
