  1. I wanted Daboll, first choice
  2. The 90's were Eric Kramer on the high side and Alonzo Spellman on the down side. I was never more sad then than the day Trace Armstrong left
  3. the Lovie years were fantastic, and Cutler was fun. But I dont know how you get out of the 1990's still being a bears fan if you only started in 1994. my heart feels for those people also, growing up south of Platteville in IL made training camp in the 80's epic
  4. I've never heard of Portnoy, but then again stay pretty far away from most sports media portnoy sounds like what you get when you eat bad poutine "JESUS CHRIST IVE GOT PORTNOY!"
  5. i feel for those who never got to watch the Bears in the 1980's. If I had to rely on 1994+ as a basis for my fandom, I'd hate myself. the 80's had some awesome Bears teams, and it was still legal to horsecoller, and generally destroy opposing QB's. it was wonderful and the Bears were good at it The first season I can remember following was 1985, I thought I was so lucky to be a fan compared to some of my friends who liked the Cowboys or the lowly Packers. I was actually a Steelers fan when I was very young because I had very blonde hair as did Bradshaw. But somewhere in the early '80's ('82 or '83) I started to love to watch Walter Payton more, and glad I did
  6. Didn't hear about this, but nice op-Ed https://apple.news/AkyNu4dGQRhWMzeRRdKdIpQ
  7. right now isn't he spending the most amount of time between snap and throw/sack on average? It seems like his natural tendency is to take too long..or his WRs cant get open for him. cant vouch for the accuracy of this site, but it seems to be that way https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/advanced-stats-qb.php eta: yup https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2022/passing_advanced.htm he's spending too much time in the pocket
  8. Maybe. But at the same time Fields isn't super inclined to be a pocket passer. I don't think that was true at Ohio State, but obviously he's still getting accustomed to the speed and bailing on the pocket. He still ends up running at times when a pass probably did exist. But then when he runs he isn't "looking to create" on the run. I guess it feels more reactive. I actually want him to run more at times. Granted, I can't see All-22, but whenever he holds onto the ball more than like 2.5 seconds, I think he should just take off. Even if the D has a spy on him, it's not a guarantee he's going to get caught by that guy, especially not before 3-4 yard gain. IMO, that's way better than him holding onto the ball, being more likely to be sacked or to force a throw that's not coming open. I'd tend to agree, I wonder how much of it is Getsy in his ear telling him to be patient and look for the open guy.
  9. the Curse of Doug Flutie
  10. thats been my impression as well. I get the impression that Fields is more inclined to be a passer first, where Hurts and/or Jackson are much more willing to channel their inner Jim Brown
  11. Hurts has strong legs, not saying he doesn't
  12. I dont understand what you're suggesting, wouldn't the coaching staff and GM provide the infrastructure? And, while we are talking specifically about Head Coach, GMs would certainly play a part. What part of the org's infrastructure doesn't get made over with coaching changes? Are you referring to scouts specifically?
  13. Dating back to 1994 they’ve had a defensive minded head coach in all but 6 seasons. The rest have all been defensive first and the bulk of those were guys in their final job, with minimal prior head coaching success. You can say they’ve changed coaches and still same results, but those changes have rarely shown a concerted effort to prioritize offense. It’s not some weird hex, it’s organizational but philosophy. Defense first. Maybe hire an offensive coach on occasion but if that fails go right back to defense first. We are back in a defense first situation and have to pray they magically find a qb or have a Ron Turner situation where the OC cobbles together a good season once or twice. I hope the current version of ownership is more balanced. All those seasons under an O coach happened once George took over from Michael and initially it was very concerted reason specifically for that change. Obviously they've still spent half the time with D coaches in that span, but I don't think D first is a concerted management mandate anymore either. the problem might be that Geo has NO idea how to prioritize coach selection
  14. 223 on a 6'1" frame is bigger (aka thicker) than 227 on a 6'3" frame. Thicker frame means more willing/able to take a hit. ,,,,is it tho? awfully similar physiques. I feel like "willing/able to take a hit" is more mental or personal style of play with regards to these two specifically
  15. somehow, espn thinks our pass blocking has been excellent? https://twitter.com/benbbaldwin/status/1572246892720914432/photo/1

  17. I dont understand that. It wasn't winnable with a historically incompetent passing game. GB isnt as good as they were last year but honestly, neither are we. Maybe later in the year when GB still has no WR's to speak of and somehow JF takes off, we can beat them in Chicago
  18. I never said it was for Poles....hell I never said Poles drafted BPA and I'm not sure he did I'm not even sure what you are saying anymore lol You: Bears should have drafted BPA Me: Gordon may have been BPA for Poles You: But PFF has other guys higher Me: Gordon may have been BPA for Poles You: I never said Poles drafted BPA sounds like we dont disagree
  19. gee...I wonder if its our young QB or lack of WR talent (?)
  20. should have been in retrospect, could have been during the draft. Gordon wasn't BPA, PFF had our own Brisker as well as Pickens and Tolbert higher then Gordon That doesn't mean Gordon wasn't BPA for Poles. I don't think any FOs rely on PFF rankings to determine their drafting I never said it was for Poles....hell I never said Poles drafted BPA and I'm not sure he did
  21. they have two young stud DB's. This wont be an easy win and I suspect a lot of Monty and Herbert That's frustrating, because winning doesn't matter for the Bears. They need to know if Fields in the guy. well, we'll have two young DB's to really test him. With any luck and Fields talent, maybe JF lights them up. that would obv help to understand if he's the guy. Also, I wouldn't drop all of Fields development on this game..or any one game for that matter. Like I said in the other thread, I'd give it at least until week 7 before I felt like I could see a pattern of any kind
  22. I'm guilty of always getting pshyced out for GB, its just the total homer Bears fan in me. But the doom bonering inst something I enjoy either. I realize the bears aren't likely to beat GB any time soon and when they do lose, its typically a huge letdown but an understandable one at that. I don't go full-jump off a cliff like Hairy. Honestly, if we haven't figured it out now, its probably the only way hairy can function in society. that being said, what kills me with the GB games every year are the calls that rob the bears, like Fields TD that wasnt
  23. You say the best policy is BPA but in the next sentence say the Bears should have drafted a WR. Which is it? My understanding is Gordon was BPA for them based on their board entering the 2nd round. Also seems silly to call Gordon a wiff after 2 games, even with how bad he's looked. Edit: Wrigley just basically said the same thing. Anyways I'm not sure any of the WRs picked between Gordon and Velus Jones are worth lamenting right now (yes even Pickens). But like with Gordon there's still plenty of time to be wrong on that. So far the 6 have combined for 4 receptions in 2 weeks (though one is on IR and another has leukemia) should have been in retrospect, could have been during the draft. Gordon wasn't BPA, PFF had our own Brisker as well as Pickens and Tolbert higher then Gordon
  24. Hurts is bigger. He's a more willing runner, I wouldn't necessarily say more natural. Fields is a step faster, maybe more agile too. Seems like teams are playing for the moving pocket. Part of the reason the Bears are running the ball well is because when they show run action, the weakside DE is basically playing for the reverse pivot, taking a man out of the run play. They know the OL isn't good enough to keep the other 3 out of the pocket consistently if he does drop straight back. I feel like good teams with mobile QBs, don't do the naked bootleg stuff and leave their QB 1-on-1 with a DE. They actually commit an extra blocker to him so the QB has time and a lane to throw, even if on the move. Like I want to see Fields outside the pocket, but actually move the linemen, have a TE come across the formation to pick up that guy keeping contain. Hurts is bigger in what way? hes 6-1 223, Fields is 6-3 227 according to NFL.com https://www.nfl.com/players/jalen-hurts/ https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4362887/justin-fields
  25. Too early to call Gordon a wiff, as bad as Sunday night was. And what you're describing is opposite of BPA then anyways. *could have been
