  1. This is a year I could see the West beating each other up and being spent by the time they get to the Finals. Then again Celtics and Cavs have the potential to be a great 7 game series.
  2. start one brah I would have but I wasn't sure if anyone was THE one that does it or if it is wanted. I tried starting a weekly college bball thread and got told we didn't need it so I wasn't sure if we would have a the general NBA thread remain as the playoff thread as well.
  3. I really wanted to beat the Spurs for the division title but no Jason Terry had to make 5 or 6 straight shots in the 4th to make us lose. Now we are likely the 5 seed and have to play on the road against Portland to open. Still I think the Rockets advance.
  4. Are we going to have a general NBA playoffs thread or is this it?
  5. I will go with everyone on the team. Why? Because we will retire 2009 and have it represent everyone on the team. This of course comes after we win the World Series. On a more realistic note I would say if we do indeed win a World Series sometime in the next 4 or 5 years a lot of the stars of this era with get heavy consideration. If Soto is part of a WS and ends up having a great career he will be retired, if Z stays here for his contract and is part of a WS he will likely be retired, same with Aram.
  6. Have I said I hate not having a first round pick? Makes the draft half as interesting.
  7. OK your avatar cracks me up. It really shouldn't make me laugh but that kid just moves really weird. Anyways the day Wrigley Field changes its name is the day the Cubs sold their soul.
  8. Just about any dominant center scores predominantly on dunks and layups. Shaq bullies his way to the basket and does 4 foot hook shots or dunks. Howard just jumps over his opponent. It's no different except that this guy plays at UCONN, who you hate, and has gotten a lot more pub than your boy Harongody. If Thabeet gets no credit for averaging 14 pts on 64% shooting because it wasn't so much skill as size then the award should just be given to whatever player is deemed the most skilled regardless of how well he did. The fact of the matter is Thabeet was efficient on the offensive end and completely dominant on the defensive end. As for his pro prospects I think he will be a very good pro. Will he ever be a good scorer? No. He could averaged double figures because even against pro centers he will be bigger than most but he will be a great rebounder and a great shot blocker. A lot of people think he got all his blocks because he is just so big and blocked the smaller centers that exist in college but if you watch the games and read the scouting reports he actually has great timing, is really good at sliding over, and has ridiculously long hands. I see him as a 8-12 point scorer, 9-11 rebounder, and 2-4 shot blocker over the course of a 12 year career or thereabouts. His size and great athletic ability for how large he is will keep him in the league for a longtime.
  9. Good, he only got to steal half a Big East POY award before leaving. You think he wasn't deserving? You could argue he changed how the other team played more than anyone. He also averaged the most blocks per game in Big East history and considering Ewing, Deke and Mourning all played in the Big East that's saying a lot. If you are horrifyingly bad at half the game, you can't be player of the year. And he got totally schooled - twice - by the guy he 'shared' the award with. You think 13.6 points on 64% shooting is horrifyingly bad? Sure he only really scores due to his size but so does Shaq and many other centers in the history of the game. Heck if you want to go into it DHoward only scores because he's as strong as anyone and is more athletic than anyone who has the size to not get bullied. Thabeet is very much a clone of Dikembe and Deke had a great pro career. He averaged a very respectable amount of points on extremely efficient shooting and on defense no one really touches him. I can see him not getting the award and would have been fine with Blair winning it outright but to say Thabeet wasn't deserving is you allowing your hatred of him to get in the way of your judgement. Both Blair and Thabeet had dominant seasons and both could have been given the award outright without it being a ridiculous decision. In the end they both had great seasons without either one truly standing out above the other hence why they shared it.

  11. Will anyone even remember Gabe Kapler 10 years from now?
  12. Not only does he have a misleading thread title, which tends to not fly here, but then he has the audacity to make the thread about changing Wrigley Field to Whoever Spent the Most Field. :flame:
  13. Well I don't know what speed he hit but he pitched a scoreless inning allowing one hit and one walk. He also three 12 of 22 pitches for strikes. His fastball was topping out at 73. I thought I read 80. Just looking at Gameday, his pitches were clocked between 71 and 80, most of them in the mid 70's. Not great but you have to factor in that if he stretched out his arm and worked on being a pitcher again he could probably get into the low-mid 80's consistently.
  14. Jeeez someone has issues with professional athletes. He should be rewarded and respected for speaking up on something that is wrong even though that something has huge contracts with the league you pay in. Just because everyone knows it doesn't mean it doesn't help immensely for an actual athlete to come out in say it. Fans can complain about it all they want but one of the athletes doing so only helps the situation and adds credibility. He's not doing it for attention. If you truly think he's only doing it so his name can get in the paper then all hope is lost because that is ignorant.
  15. Looking further at the box score he also hit a HR in the game. I wonder when the last time someone hit a HR as a starting field player and then win on to pitch.

  17. "We're hitting the cover off the ball." "If the Cubs get a fifth starter..." Same here. I'm pretty much the same way. That sums it up just about perfect. I was having trouble figuring out when I used what but that sounds about right. I will say we at times outside of games like when someone asks what place are the Cubs in.
  18. Bias ... I was hoping to get him in the 5th.
  19. Soto is out as well. If Bradley is the only one hurt our lineup is much better than 06 but with Soto and Bradley out its similar in level to 06.
  20. Where's the both option? I switch back and forth.
  21. So because you didn't experience it it doesn't exist I gotcha.
  22. What about them? Sounds gay (seriously). Maybe nowadays it does but when I was kid and participating in them noone ever thought anything other than race equality. You're describing a time and a place that has never existed. Huh? That doesn't even make sense. When someone brought up the topic of equality in the 90's everyone pretty much knew it was about race. Today if it is brought up a lot of people would probably think homosexuality.
  23. Gregg sucking makes me miss Wood all the more.
