  1. hahahahaha read this rough account of what the Rays announcers just did. They are trying to find the most energized fan of the game. The camera goes to a guy cheering like crazy. Play-by-Play "And here is our most energized fan of the game." -guy starts cheering and turns towards camera revieling he's wearing a Cubs jersey. Color "That's a Cubs jersey! He can't be our energized fan." Play-by-play "Wait that guy actually used to work for us. That's our former stats guy." Color "Well that's why he's our former. You can't wear a Cubs jersey." Play-by-play "Yeah that's not right. His wife can be our stats person though she's got a Rays jersey on."
  2. Backup position players do not go by vote totals. The fans have no say other than the starters and then picking the 32nd man. The only way in for Theriot is if he wins the vote. DeRosa makes it if they need a 3rd 2nd baseman, but that's the only way. I also believe Marmol is for sure out at this point. Yes but finishing second gives them a good shot at making it. I agree there is no way DeRo makes it over Uggla but Rameriz is probably going to be picked over Wright and Lee could get it over Pujols
  3. I saw your post before I saw the play and still got scared.
  4. With Howry stuggling very well may be
  5. that was actually an insult the british women used to tell us during the revolution. Is it 1778 throwback day on WGN? yeah Brenly is wearing a garter in celebration
  6. that was actually an insult the british women used to tell us during the revolution.
  7. unfortunately I have to watch on comp so Ihave the Rays announcers. I get to here things like Lee is up next the Cubs Big Bopper from their color guy. And he's not... Theriot's up next haha well he said it before last inning wehn Lee was up next

  9. Well I'm movin on up, To the east side. To a deluxe league in the sky. Movin on up, To the east side. I finally got a piece of the pie.
  10. come back play a couple games before the all-star break then opt to not play in the game and get three or four days rest
  11. Strikeout in 5....4.....3....2.... 1..... hehehe
  12. Very nice. Yeah my roommate and I challenged each other to come up with the best Theriot song. That was my pick because not only does he yell riot at one point but tells everyone to drink more which the bleachers will love. Been using it since August last year.
  13. Zoot suit riot. Riot! Throw back another bottle of beer.
  14. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3449470 Getting reexamined and may be back before all-star break ... man God sure seems to want to end the curse.
  15. hmm a Dukie saying that ... you must be a dark place
  16. Soto, Soriano, Kosuke are all pretty much locks to be voted in as starters (Soriano obviously won't start too bad Edmonds has turned it on too late to be able to get there. Lee is likely in as the backup 1b because Pujols is about 60,000 back and injured. Aramis should be in as a backup 3b with a 136,000 lead over third. DeRosa is definately the backup 2b as he has a 150,000 lead over third. The only one lagging is Theriot as he is 59,000 back of third. So all we need to do is keep up our current production with a increase to Theriot. Also we should start voting for Edmonds a lot just to see if we can get him in the top 10 because that would be hilarious a player who sucked until a month to go before the game and wasn't even signed two months prior to voting ending places top 10 at OF. So we got three starters and 2 or 3 other players in as backups almost definately. This is all without pitchers. I would say Wood makes it because the guy who leads the NL in saves has a 4.4 era. Lidge is definately in as he has 18 saves as well and a below 1.00 era. Wood is liklely the second and only other one just because he has the saves, a big name, and has been getting strikeouts which helps. Marmol I would think gets in as well. After that I think Zambrano could make it on name alone but so many SP in the NL are doing well and with the every team gets an all-star rule might not make it. Same with Demp. So we have low balling it 5 all-stars, most likely 7 in my mind, and as many as 9 or 10.
  17. Purdue National Champions!!! Hey we actually have a good shot for the first time since say 2000. Same starting lineup and the only two players gone are Terrance Crump who sucked and Scott Martin. Over 81% of our scoring is back, 85% of rebounding, and 80% assisting. Plus all the freshman and sophomores (4 of 5 starters) from last year are now one year older and the two that are gone were our two worst shooters from last year. Gonna be a good year, especially considering where IU is.
  18. I'll take the #3 priority.
  19. Well I don't think anyone has said it but getting Beltran means no real SP. No C.C., Burnett, Harden maybe still a Wolf.
  20. He's 3rd overall in pitches thrown in relief work. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/pitching?split=128&league=mlb&season=2008&seasonType=2&sort=pitches&type=pitch3&ageMin=17&ageMax=51&state=0&college=0&country=0&hand=a&pos=all But he doesn't average a huge number of pitches per IP at least. Not even in the top 200 @ 16.5/IP. He has a lot of quick low-stress innings. yet have this thread is dedicated to how Marmol's style of pitching causes high pitch counts
  21. I would rather have them both for a collective 18 mil. Oh that's not possible well hot diggity damn.
  22. Fire the guy who was actually able to put Ollie Perez together and who Maine credits with all his success? Good job. Minaya needs to fire himself. No Minaya has gotten the talent there (who wouldn't with that payroll but still). You see this a lot especially in baseball. A manager can be great but once the team gets down for a any period of time that manager almost never can get them back. His voice just doesn't get them motivated anymore and they lose their mojo. Sometimes a manager can be great and the team isn't losing because of him so much as the team just not fully believing in what he is saying even if he saying the right stuff. All a GM can do is get a new manager aka a new voice. I guess he could overhaul the roster but that takes years while getting a new voice takes hours.
  23. If people believe it's entertaining, then it's not a myth whether you fall in that category or not. Personally, I'd rather not have the DH, but I think both leagues need to have the same rule. Yep. If the AL is going to continue to dominate with DH, it's time to level the playing field. And who else feels cheated that our generation is going to have to put up with Hank Steinbrenner? Say what you will about Ozzie Guillen, at least he's an original horse's ass. eh, Cashman will shoot him eventually.
  24. Umm well that is strategy and the AL doesn't have it so it is true the NL takes more strategy. It might not be a whole lot more but it's more especially when you have the managers that will send a pinch hitter up, the other puts in a different pitcher, and the original manager allows the pitcher to hit because now its righty righty or lefty lefty matchup. The reason I don't like the DH (other than I think it ruins the game a bit like have a designated free-throw shooter for centers would do to basketball) is I enjoy watching a pitcher hit. Not because it's funny but because if he gets a hit it's huge even if it's a bloop single. A pitcher getting an RBI is awesome to see because it's rare and he is directly helping his cause to get the W.
