  1. The fundamental difference is that there are tons of guys capable of being commissioner of baseball, and only a handful capable of being major-league players. there were some people who did an awful job as commissioner. i think you're underestimating the importance and difficulty of that position. Its kind of like the GM position, and the fantasy owners who think they know everything that is going on. The commissioner has the power to make extreme changes to the game and to make the popularity of the sport to grow. Look what Taligabue (spelling?) did for the NFL. By contrast the commissioner has the power to mess up the sport and kill its popularity.
  2. I keep telling you people, it's Daniel Moore. I don't know that I'm willing to concede that. They both have annoying styles of play but Moore definitely gets the edge there. Announcers love to praise Moore for his little white guy scrappiness (still waiting for Lavin to do an IU game so we can hear him called a pepperpot 83 times) but Kramer gets all of the tough guy, leads the league in floor burn, scrappiness love. Kramer fouls on every possession, yet has never once been called for a foul without whining. Yet on offense he is a total flopper. If he played a game against himself, every possession would end with offensive Kramer falling down with theatrics and defensive Kramer whining about the call. On top of that we're forced to see his mom at least 15 times every game, often screaming like a lunatic. And you know she's going after the refs for not calling fouls committed against her baby. So you do you hate Curry's mom too?
  3. Come on. The other team self-destructs and gives you a chance ton win and the best you can do is throw it to Lewis Jackson with 6 seconds left and tell him to create? I used to think Chris Kramer was the most annoying person in the Big Ten. Now I can't decide if it's him or his mom. Either way, I wish she would stay and watch the next game in her trailer so I don't have to see her screaming like a lunatic every game. Oh believe me I'm mad Painter didn't use a timeout to actually set something up. Jackson was still able to get in the lane and was fouled but it wasn't called. Purdue could have and should have won it and that play didn't account for the crappy defense. For those that didn't see it Jackson got past his man who grabbed his arm as he went by. It threw Jackson way off balance, hence why his layup bounced off the glass three feet to the side of the hoop. I just wish Hummel doesn't miss any more games. We're now 0-2 in the Big Ten without him.
  4. Well Purdue lost a game they should have won but considering Hummel was out I can live with it. That was a bad no call at the end of regulation, especially with Hightower being one of the refs.
  5. I don't think anyone should make that much, nor is Selig a good Commish but when the league makes billions and some players make $20 mil plus I don't have a problem with the Commish making $17.5 mil.
  6. Three factors distinguish this Davidson team: (i) their win over West Virginia (Pomeroy No. 7) is far superior to anything they did last regular season (best win was No. 115 NC Greensboro); (ii) no losses to teams below No. 12, whereas last year they lost games to Nos. 84, 96 and 107; (iii) finally, they have far more name recognition this season (this may not be on the selection committee's stated criteria, but I guarantee it is at least subconsciously pivotal). They still shouldn't have been listed as a near lock. Certainly not over a MSU or Purdue. They lose one game and the conference tourny they are on the cusp of a bubble team. Purdue and MSU can lose 4 out of their last 10 and probably still get in as long as they don't trashed in their first BTT game.
  7. Come on guys there could be an update on Robbie Hummel's back brace and we just cannot miss that. After all he's going to make us all look so stupid. I want to hear more claims about Hummel not being at practice since December. Claim came from Brent Musburger who said Painter told him that. Brent Musberger is 88 years old, never assume he got the story right. Especially one so far-fetched. Brent Musberger is as trustworthy a pbp as there is and when he says Painter told me that it seems honest enough. He didn't say I heard or the students were telling me. Most likely its that Hummel hasn't been able to do a full practice since January. I already linked earlier in this thread that Hummel was practicing in January. I love Musberger cause he's a Big Ten homer, but he's old and rarely gets the story right. Yes one that Painter said Hummel was able to do "some things in practice" i.e. not everything. That's why I said it was probably Painter told Musburger that Hummel hasn't practiced fully since December and like the telephone game the fully part got dropped.

  10. you could also just put sulley on ignore, that'd filter out 90% of those posts. That is true. Probably should have made my lost post more directed at him.
  11. For a game you guys were down at most 4 points and led almost the entire second half you sure do whine a lot. Can we get a game thread separate from this one for Illinois games. The three pages of, "we're going to lose, oh wait we won," posts can go there. On a side note MSU got upset so Purdue is now tied for first in the loss column.
  12. what happened? I didn't see the play but he ran all the way across the court to the get in the refs face. It took a while to eject him but finally an assistant helped him off, then as he was going into the tunnel he turned around and sprinted back to the scorers table. two assistants and a security guard led him out. Just goes to show you apples don't bounce very well. what apple doesn't fall far from the tree
  13. So it's true then,.... the apple don't fall far from the tree, eh? Ohhhh snap!

  15. Let someone unexpectedly break your nose with their elbow and we'll see how you react. One things for sure you would just stand there. Oh c'mon he embellished the hell out of it, if you can't see that then you are just being a homer. He had blood flowing out of his nose and he was hit unexpectedly. Ever seen some pull the prank of acting like they are going to throw something at someone? In this case Kramer actually got hit. I would expect someone who got hit unexpectedly to go down real fast and in a natural reflex try to get out of the way. Those of you trying to say he flopped when he filled a towel with blood are just plain being stupid. No way to cut it any different. You're letting your dislike of Purdue blind you. Seriously saying someone flopped when they are covered in blood ... I would expect that from people other than Cubs fans.
  16. Let someone unexpectedly break your nose with their elbow and we'll see how you react. One things for sure you would just stand there.
  17. Well his nose got broke so I'm pretty sure he did get hit and wasn't flopping. I don't know how all of you can say he flopped when his nose got broke. That tends to make people fall to the ground. Harris shouldn't have been booted though. I could see a technical maybe, but not booted.
  18. Have you seriously not learned that voters are incredibly stupid yet?
  19. I coulda sworn LewJack and his 45 point per game average would be the frontrunner for Purdue. Nobody cares that Hummel won preseason player of the year, that has nothing to do with who's going to win player of the year. Nobody cares that Hummel hasn't practiced since December. And no, I don't believe this either. Nobody cares that he has a gimpy back. Nobody cares that you for some reason think his scoring will go up despite playing tougher competition. Robbie Hummel will be lucky to make 2nd team all Big Ten. You are going to look real stupid in a couple months. The media and coaches notice things like those you listed and care. That's why it has been brought up every broadcast. It's not fair but people are highly toted in preseason get more praise throughout the season and in postseason awards. The fact he was preseason player of the year will get him a couple extra votes even though it shouldn't. Oh and you can believe what you want about Hummel practicing but that is what he, Painter and ESPN has been saying for the last couple weeks. I choose to believe the people who would know and not just refuse to even though I have no insight into the truth of the matter.
  20. Your team usually has to be, you know, good to win Big Ten POY. If Harangody leads the Big East in scoring and rebounding again (he's doing both rather easily right now) and doesn't win Big East POY, I'll be pissed regardless of ND's standing, and I'd imagine the same applies to Harris and UM. If Harris proves to be the best player, he should win the award. If not they should change it to conference MVP and be done with it. That said, I'm sure someone will prove to be at least as deserving for a more competitive team. Depends on who finishes where obviously. If Purdue finishes top 3 I could see Hummel or Johnson winning it. Johnson has been the best center in the Big Ten (16th in points, 11th in rebounds, 3rd in FG%, 1st in blocks). Meanwhile Hummel is still putting up very good numbers despite playing with a bad back and not practicing a single day since December. Plus he has the preseason player of the year going for him. People could vote for him because it makes them look good for picking him in the preseason. Right now I would vote for Harris but there isn't a clear cut definite favorite. i dont think you can be 16th in points and be BTPOY. haha, well that objectivity for ya. but, in actuality, i think the whole purdue team deserves to win it, and i assume that they will. Agreed, actually on second thought I am going to give it to Matt Painter's mole in a tight race over Thad Matta's mole. Cubbiebum, how about cause Robbie can't sniff Manny Harris. That a good enough reason for you? How about because he is less valuable to his team than Kevin Coble is to Northwestern? The Big Ten game Hummel missed was the loss to Penn State. I think that shows how valuable he is to Purdue. Whether he should be or not almost everyone looks at Hummel as the clear front man for Purdue and he won preseason player of the year. Add in how he hasn't practiced a day since December and plays with a very bad back he very well may end up winning. His scoring is definitely down but will likely go up by season end, he's one of the top rebounders, has a 2.05 asst/to ratio, gets a good amount of steals, is one of the top 3-pt shooters, and plays great defense. Like I said right now I would vote for Harris but Hummel is still one of the favorites.
  21. Closet White Sox fan? I'm just wondering because you list Crede twice.
  22. When nobody else can hit a shot you grasp at straws and give the last guy a chance to spark something. Jordan can't create for himself and can't shoot 3s. And nobody on Illinois could hit the side of a barn last night so why not let Jordan try.
  23. this was my favorite Now the Purdue game is a battle for making it a race. Its obviously still early but if Purdue losses I don't see MSU giving up a 2 game lead and if Illinois losses it essentially becomes a two team race.
  24. When nobody else can hit a shot you grasp at straws and give the last guy a chance to spark something.
  25. louisville/marquette is going to be a good one this year. its too bad we are only playing once this year, i'm just glad it's at our place. i am very interested in seeing how your coach deals with the pitino defensive pressure, now especially that you don't have any 6-10 guys who can hit the 3. Bum is not actually a Marquette fan. But that will be a very entertaining game and I'll be tuning in. It's pretty clear that UConn, Pitt, Louisville and Marquette are the big four in the league this year. Not true. I'm a fan of Marquette every time they play Notre Dame.
