  1. WBC isn't anything huge to me but I like it and with time I think will become a big deal. With baseball out of the Olympics this will become baseball's Olympics.
  2. I agree with c-b-a-d and I didn't see your picks until after I decided.
  3. Its a team of great players and very little after that. You have a lot of top players who will have dominant stats but almost nothing after that. If a couple of your gambles pay off (like Maybin) then you can do very well. If not you will be hurting because you have some holes in the starting lineup.
  4. I find it interesting and will be looking forward to see who wins. The catcher who knows how the pitcher likes to pitch or the pitcher who knows how the catcher likes to hit?
  5. Tried finding him as well. When I couldn't I went with the safer pick in Wallace.
  6. Pujols is the lock Webb or Halladay: I go Webb easily. He's more consistent, more likely to get wins, and no injury problems. Longoria or Hamilton: This is pretty much a dead even. Both are fine. Hamilton will probably have better overall stats but he is at a position that has a lot more depth. I would look at the other teams and try to figure out which position is likely to have a lot kept. I would then keep whichever one is in the position that is going to be more scarce.
  7. I would call hitting around .290, never striking out, committing 2 or 3 errors a year, and getting a lot of SB's at the top of the order right about average. There's no doubt he's overpaid but he's not one of the top 45 overpaid.
  8. Some of those should definitily not be on there. Pierre is still an average CF who is paid less than 10 mil per. That's not bad, not good either, but not bad. Overbay getting paid 6 mil a year is actually a pretty good contract to me.There are a lot of other ones like that. Zito takes the cake though due to pay level and length left on deal. And if you mean Andruw Jones by writing Andruw he's on there right after Kevin Millwood.
  9. I prefer my Purdue-everyone else arguments. If IU was actually good or even medicore I'm sure IU and Purdue fans would rival any other two team hatred. I hate IU in every way shape and form. When walking on campus if I see an IU anything I feel compelled to trash talk the person (I normally hold it back).
  10. hahahaha ... nice. Why the heck won't he change his swing. He still have the bat speed.
  11. Just arguing. The next thing after Friday is going to be Monday (rank top 16 locks and top 16 potentials...the real committee does it in 4's, but we don't have that kind of dedicated time online). Alright, I'll get some preemptive arguing in over the next couple days. And I'm sure I'll be there, arguing for the other side.
  12. My last pick is Mike Wallace 3B Cardinals
  13. Well I would be ok with a offline draft if people promised to check throughout the day. However that will never actually happen. Offline draft, with so many rounds, would end a month into the season. I just hope the time that is picked I am available.
  14. His family seems thrilled that their son got signed by a major league team. I think they were actually worried cbbryan had just drafted him. A minute later you should have seen them. They were jumping around, cheering when they learned he had already been drafted by a different team.
  15. You should probably look at the draft board. Both guys are already gone. Get off my koolaide. Holland is mine. I'll trade him for your first round draft pick though.
  16. I believe I'm on the clock and take Wade Davis SP Tampa Bay
  17. I send you that PM by Friday.
  18. Does anyone know if he's gonna log on eventually? He's typically a late-nighter. I just hope its not another 24-hour no-show. Well hopefully I can make my two picks before he gets on :)
  19. I was using the Cubs as an example because this is a Cubs message board. There are only a couple teams that have major attendance issues and Florida is the only one that actually has won World Series and still can't get the fans. If a team in the desert like Arizona or teams in Atlanta (similar weather to Florida) can get the fans then the big reason why Florida can't becomes the fans. They just don't have the fans that want to go to the game no matter the conditions.
  20. You're right. All the people I know in Miami who avoid games because of the weather must by lying. Glad that you could prove that. keyword is fans and we've established that the marlins don't have fans and probably never will. a lot of ticket sales come from non-fans, and non-fans aren't going to want to take in a game if it's miserable outside. is the weather keeping the marlins from packing the stadium every night? of course not, but don't say that weather doesn't affect ticket sales. Exactly why they shouldn't have a team. Miami just won't support a team and thus shouldn't have one. Spending millions to give a fan base that doesn't support the team because of the weather should never happen. Prove even for just one month you will come out and actually get 20 thousand fans and then maybe you can get a nice new indoor stadium. If you don't show the fan support you can't justify a new stadium. To me Miami shouldn't have the team and the MLB should be trying to figure out how it will work there. If the fans of a team won't come out because they will sweat too much then they don't deserve to have a team.
  21. Was hoping he would make it back to me. Thats who I targeted as a possible third pick.
  22. Escobar was the one I was debating taking before Samardz.
  23. Problem is that a guy like Shark is like a Rule 5 guy in this kind of league. Loses minor league eligibility in only 22 innings, and will take more than those 22 to become any sort of fantasy factor. 22 2/3 innings thank you. I know its not long but my approach with minors will be to have ones that are most ready to step up to the bigs. So many top prospects don't pan out and so many unknowns do. Because of this I don't value minor players a whole lot. Its a hit or miss. I'm extremely active when I do fantasy sports so I'm fairly confident I can grab minor players who are dominating and yet unowned. Plus there are a ridiculous amount of minor league players who show lots of potential.
  24. I was deciding between taking a true prospect or taking a technical prospect that really isn't anymore.
