  1. What a craptastic display that was. They just took a lousy BP off the hook for another inning.
  2. Agreed. Much bigger inning if Theriot hits away. Unless he GIDP Soriano at first and Theriot batting is a tough DP.
  3. Not yet. I like that we made him throw some pitches though. Hopefully he's not able to get it back together. The blister's bothering him and his PC is high. I think the Cubs knock him out next inning.

  5. Lou's gotta get off his sac bunt fetish. Enough already.
  6. Cool. Houston needs to put a couple more runs up and let Oswalt cruise.
  7. And I am right again Bow down to me Somebody ban him^ (please) Relax, I will predict a Cubs home run soon. In the 9th inning with 2 outs and noone on to cut the lead to 1. OK. Make it so.

  9. His 2003 season alone makes him worth every penny the Cubs have paid him to date. He doesn't owe the Cubs anything. With that said, I'd be interested in a Wood-type incentive based deal and I think Prior might take it.
  10. The mutual off days are Aug. 27th and Sept. 10th. On Sept. 10th both the Cubs and the Cardinals are in the middle of road trips. That choice seems unlikely. My bet is they go with Aug. 27th or October 1st.
  11. Because there are only two days open to reschedule this game and tomorrow's forecast isn't much better.
  12. it looks like it is moving ever so slightly northeast...could be bad news bears Yeah, the cell SW of Aurora might be the one that shuts this down.
  13. How about a five inning CG shutout by Z?
  14. The back edge of this shower is out by O'Hare. Then it looks clear for 2-3 hours.
  15. If the field's not already unplayable, there's a nice gap on radar less than an hour away. I think they'll get it started.
  16. The Cubs spent ~$112 mil. this season. They have ~$107 mil. committed - exlcuding Wood, Miller, Izturis, Floyd, Cotts & Barrett. Ohman is under contract next season. So to add A-Rod, you'd need to find a way to add $25-$30 mil. next season or severely backload his contract. Assume for a moment that the new ownership increases payroll by 10%. That'd still leave you $9 mil -$13 mil. short. It's doubtful they could deal away that much in other contracts (anyone going to take JJ's full contract - even if he finishes well). Basically the Cubs would have to a) increase payroll 20%; b) get A Rod to take an under-market contract; or c) backload the heck out of the deal. None of those possibilities seems likely.
  17. I agree that it's possible. And I'd love to see the Cubs pursue A-Rod (but I'm not convinced he's going anywhere). Also, while they may be able to fit one more large contract under their budget, they'd better be convinced that team is enough to contend for the WS the next three years. Another long-term big contract pretty much ties their hands from 2008-2010. Unless, of course, the new owner is willing to bump payroll more than say four or five percent per year. I'd like to see them pursue someone who's still productive but near the end of their contract and a little overpaid (e.g., Tejada or Griffey). Ideally sending Jones and prospects in return.
  18. I'd like to see him back next season.
  19. No. 8 applies in games that are suspended before they become regulations games (4 1/2 innings or 5 if the visitor leads). The 7 inning rule only applies to games suspended for reasons other than weather. No, it could be for a game suspended for any reason. The key point is that rule applies to the minor leagues, not the majors. Note the bolded part of the above quote. No. 8 and 9 apply to National Association leagues, which is the official name for the minors. Thanks NCCF. That makes more sense.
  20. No. 8 applies in games that are suspended before they become regulations games (4 1/2 innings or 5 if the visitor leads). The 7 inning rule only applies to games suspended for reasons other than weather. doubtful. I've never seen a 7 inning major league game. they re-start non-regulation games (another stupid rule). It would be unusual. It would have to be a game suspended before it was a regulation game because: (1) A curfew imposed by law; (2) A time limit permissible under league rules; (3) Light failure or malfunction of a mechanical field device under control of the home club. (Mechanical field device shall include automatic tarpaulin or water removal equipment); (4) Darkness, when a law prevents the lights from being turned on; EDIT: Re-read that and there's another rule below that limits a 7-inning restart to apply only to a came suspended due to a lighting failure. (So, yeah, it's a stupid rule.)
