  1. And THAT'S why they pay Scottie the BIG BUCKS.
  2. Go conjure up a "8:06 pm: i'm calling a Lee HR"
  3. Are you really going to gripe as often as possible about people getting emotional while a game is going on? I very rarely gripe. I thought everybody was going o be excited that rich got out of it with very little damage. I thought it was ridiculous to see some of the responses, so I let people know about it. I'm not going to get too excited about a 30 pitch inning even if they get out of it with only one run.
  4. Kerry Wood comes in with none on and 1 out in the 6th inning: Wood vs. Monzon: Ball 1 low. Ball 2. Ball 3 outside. Ball 4. Bases on balls. Wood vs. Rivera: Ball 1 low. Strike 1 looking (92 mph). Strike 2 swinging (changeup). Fouled off. Strike 3 swinging. Two outs. Wood vs. Minaker: Popout to second base. Three outs. 7th inning: Wood vs. Johnson: Strike 1 looking. Strike 2 looking (breaking ball). 5-3 groundout on a great play by Kyle Reynolds. One out. Wood vs. Valbuena: Strike 1 looking. Ball 1 outside. 5-3 groundout. Two outs. Wood vs. Jimerson: Ball 1. Ball 2. Ball 3 inside. Strike 1 looking. Fouled out of play near first base, strike 2. Ground ball fouled. Fouled back. Popped up to first base (foul). Three outs. Wood: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 K/1 BB, 24 pitches (15 strikes), 2 GO-2 FO. Not bad. Thanks Raisin!
  5. Gun to your head, Blanco or Kendall...who do you choose? Offense: Blanco > Kendall >> Hill Defense: Hill > Blanco >>> Kendall Toss up.
  6. If the bottom of the order can show some patience and get Hamels out of the game the Cubs have a shot. The Phillies BP sucks! Gordon & Alf are the best of the crop.
  7. Save the bullpen. Send out Eyre and play for the series. Hamels is far and away their best starter.
  8. Merchandising revenue is shared among the teams. As far as being a draw, Griffey only nets them two advantages: 1) the difference between ticket sales and tickets already sold (e.g., season ticketholders and advance sales) for the next 10-15 homes games while Griffey chases 600; and 2) the difference between 2008 season ticket sales with vs. without Griffey. The former factor isn't that significant (fewer than 100,000 tickets sold IMO), which is less than the payroll they'd save. The second factor is harder to quantify, but think of the excitement they could generate with a couple of top prospects and $12.5 mil. extra to spend next season. IMO that's virtually a wash. CFP
  9. Tells us that Houston is stupid? The Jason Jennings trade told us that a while back. Exactly. Basing a player's worth on his team's (or former team's) actions is pretty ignorant. It doesn't just indicate his former team's actions/stupidity. It indicates that Houston couldn't deal him. He's 32. He's having a terrible year. He's been inconsistent. And DeRosa makes him redundant.
  10. The fact that Houston acquired Wigginton and DFA'd Ensberg should tell us enough about Ensberg's value. Pass.
  11. It probably shouldn't. I think there'd be more noise if it were imminent. And Bruce Miles seems skeptical. Even so, I just have a gut feeling about it. Piniella, Hendry & Griffey are all coming off just a little coy.
  12. If there is a 3-way deal brewing, there's a good chance that it's the Braves. Buster Olney reported that the Braves were interested in Arroyo. Saltamachia could be the chip they'd be moving, but I doubt that the Cubs could end up with Griffey and Salty. The Reds wouldn't be getting enough in that deal. So the braves would get Pie and/or Murton? what's the OF situation, other than (most likely) losing Andruw after 07? Their outfield situation is weak without Andruw Jones. Diaz, Francouer, Harris, and one decent OF prospect. Very little power in that OF.
  13. I dunno...the Cubs are in contention this year. If they make the playoffs, I don't see a new owner ditching Hendry. I probably overstated it. If they make the playoffs Hendry's probably secure for another year. Griffey is one the few moves they could make that's like to significantly improve those odds though.
